Found and started watching this a little while ago. Season 1 and 2 were great, Mason stole just about every scene he was in. I'm on season 3 now and it is...dull...too much self-mastabatory THIS IS ART crap, and very little in the movement of the story. New Mason isn't as good either.

Mason's season 2 actor, Michael Pitt, is notoriously hard to work with (to the point where they killed off his character on Boardwalk Empire because everyone working on the show was sick of dealing with him), so it could've been why they replaced him. Some people think it's because he didn't want to wear the facial prosthetics.

I agree, though, Original Mason is better. New Mason tries too hard to be Gary Oldman instead of making the role his own
