bet you would pay double at least.
Yeah that’s been my experience so far with shipping from the states. Customs charges etc can almost double it. It’s a bit of a pain. If somethings available in Europe that’s fine, I have people who can send it to me and I’m over there enough to pick stuff up, but ex UK/USA things get pricey. The worst thing about brexit was breaking the customs union …

I know you said no luxury but if you don't mind spending ~200 I really like Coach bags. They're the bottom of the luxury totem pole but they have great leather and they even have an Outlet option for cheaper options that aren't in their boutique line of products. Both options still use premium leather like smooth calfskin the only difference is the logo used on the bags. Outlet products have the extra horse and carriage above the logo but that's the only difference.

to the kiwi girls who are into designer handbags... i have a few questions..
first, is what is y'alls opinions on vivienne westwood?? i've never been a designer brand girl before but i've fallen head over heels for their purses and wallets... i'm curious what others think of them??
second, where do y'all buy second hand designer stuff (preferably somewhere that sells vivienne westwood lol) that's reliable??
also what are y'alls thoughts on knock offs?? where are places to look for some knock offs?? i sadly don't have a budget for designer anything and i just wanna look at some more affordable options

Late bump but I've had several leather Fossil bags and they are really great quality. The canvas bags are kino too but check out the leather bags on Ebay. Cheap at resale, great soft but strong leather (no bullshit ..leather veneer? You know what I'm talking about) and straps that take a real beating without peeling or cracking. I've never had a Fossil bag let me down, I just get tired of them after a while and move on. PS I treat my things like I'm a toddler.

i've been looking at bags on ebay for a while but have been nervous about getting ripped off.
any advice on how to spot when a bag is genuine?? i don't wanna drop $$$ only to get some shit chinese crap
I was speaking of the Fossil leather bags, which aren't high-end enough to fake. On the other hand, the chinkies make plastic rice and counterfeit eggs so who knows. But look at the seller's other items: if they have multiples of the same bag, or a lot of mid to high end bags in 'new w tags' condition, or if the bag is wrapped in plastic, especially around the handles, it's gonna be fake stuff.

Look for items that are lightly used and see if the seller's other items make sense in context. Do they have a whole lot of random stuff, like hundreds of things? They are probably thrift store resellers. I do this for fun sometimes. Are they selling a lot of clothes in the same size? They are a regular person who shops too much, and her mid-end bag is going to be real. It might be a real Kate Spade or Coach from the outlet store or Ross though. I don't know if you care about this, I don't.

I've bought fake Kate Spade (I think?) and fake Tokidoki off Ebay and never cared about that. They both have held up well. If you're looking for LV or higher on Ebay, buy from a Japanese professional seller because they can get sent to highly unpleasant bugland prison for selling fakes. Ebay may also have a free authentification process for bags over some amount, they do it for sneakers so maybe?

OH: The RealReal is infested with fakes according to Reddit. I've accidently sold them a fake Stella McCartney (didn't learn it was counterfeit till I learned more about them later),

Only designer making costume-tier designer goods that is reasonably priced. Viv quality sucks, but no more than low-tier Gucci goods, which given the price point being significantly lower I respect. I'd buy Viv on sale any day.

second, where do y'all buy second hand designer stuff
Japanese proxy services like Buyee, the Japanese don't typically care for second hand goods and list prices way below western sites. Only issue is that gen Z resellers have caught on which has fucked up buying a lot of brands like Burberry Black which I used to love buying for dirt cheap from Japanese sellers. Otherwise I use Ebay and try find old people selling stuff which they have no idea about.

also what are y'alls thoughts on knock offs??
Okay going to be real here, a lot of the quality of knock offs is pretty much 1:1 nowadays but the items like that are very mainstream products that owning would be extremely bland and something that everyone owns. If you really love a popular bag or clothing item that is super popular and expensive from one of the main fashion houses, go buy the replica but I'd recommend finding something from a more niche high quality brand and buying it used than doing that. Everyone is walking around with fake LV neverfulls, it's tacky and boring.

Doubleposting but going to help a lot of you girlies out with some tips of brands that actually make high quality stuff that you can find on the second hand market for good prices that you should look out for (this applies for bags, clothes and accessories):

Mainstream brands [Plain, low cost, found everywhere]:
- Ted Baker (Great quality, timeless pieces)
- Radley (Bags, leather quality will last you)
- Tory Burch (Bit more out there motif but similar quality to the above)
- Valentino (NOT Garavani, the other Valentino make bags from Italian high quality leather that you can pick up for dirt cheap second hand and they are a genuine leather goods producer)

Mainstream Designer:
- Burberry Blue Label (Japanese exclusive label of Burberry from the 2000s, clothes and bags can be found online for cheap and don't suffer the same quality issues as new Burberry)
- Cartier (Look on Japanese proxy sellers for vintage purses, the leather is insane and the prices are dirt cheap depending on the condition you want)

Avant/High Fashion:
- Rick Owens (Women's Rick Owens pieces are absolutely worthless in terms of second hand pricing but the quality, especially with earlier pieces is some of the highest you can get)

I have this Coach bag currently, never been a Coach gal but I love cherries 🍒 They also have a black cat bag I really want too.

So I’m not a girly person, but was gifted a real Louis Vuitton for my birthday by a wealthy acquaintance. Honestly, it’s like giving really good wine to a non drinker, I just don’t get it, but I do know these handbags are very expensive and last a long time. How do I care for a designer bag? Please enlighten me.

Just go ahead and use it! It's expensive but not precious. It's a utilitarian item intended to carry your chapstick tampons and a lil snack while you're out. There are a million others out and about in the world already. It's sewn by chunky mexican abuelas in Ontario, California if it's a US made bag. I think about doing a dumpster dive there but I am very lazy girl

Did not know that. It’s made in France (also why I ask, I cannot read the care label).

Dumpster dive? Ugh, the waste in America can really bother me at times.

Check out TJ Maxx if you can, they seem to be in the UK based on my lazy searching.

I've gotten two of this brand from there that I love. Full leather, very supple and one is even vegetable tanned so it has built up a patina from use (may not be your thing but I appreciate the look of used leather. My mom liked one of mine so much she bought it online.

American Leather

Edited to add, take the Backpack Purse pill. Plus you can pick up a lot of brands for a good price from TJ Maxx and Marshall's online

Got one of these bad boys in normal canvas colour not the black. It's literally a magic bag it holds so much shit. The pockets hold full sized 600ml coke bottle each (for scale) it literally will fall apart and i just fix it with some needle and thread. My one is basically dead i've had it for 20 years and i've patched, painted and pin this thing so much it's a work of art.

I'm sad when i have to replace it because it's like a comfy pair of shoes i just don't want to get rid of them despite the holes.

I found a radley store and was very disappointed with what was on offer. Poor quality thick, stiff structuring that felt plastic even though it was leather. I think they’re trying to mimic that kind of Hermes thick structured look but it doesn’t work at all. Came out empty handed.
I ended up finding something nice in TK maxx- no name on it, dark brown leather and loads of pockets. Looks reasonably made and was in the bargain bin so I paid 27.99 for it. Success!
I’m going to start looking at vintage stuff as well because I don’t like this thick plasticky leather everything’s made from.

I just got a Vivienne Westwood a few months ago and I really regret it and I haven't used it and I'm strongly considering re-selling it. It's just poor quality. It feels like a Guess bag but from Hot Topic and not worth the money. For the same price you can get a really good Coach bag instead.

Oh man really?? that sucks to hear... i love the way their stuff looks its so pretty but to hear it's poor quality for how much it costs.... what did you get if you don't mind sharing??
i've been looking at resellers on ebay located in japan since the prices aren't too terrible but even then i don't want to pay $100+ for shitty quality designer.

i'll look into coach! i've always been weary since they are so popular but still so expensive, i figured ppl were buying for the brand not the quality.

I mostly carry a black Oroton hobo but I've been meaning to get my Balenciaga city from the 00s repaired and cleaned properly so I can start using it again now that bigger bags are coming back.
