God damn it is already ten years.

I remember playing the Beta and thinking "yup, this is gonna be one of those installments"

It most certainly was. Half my friends at the time I still had my original account refused to touch the game after its first year, but a few coming back once Halo CE Anniversary was announced. It was such a slogging grind to get all the credits I needed for the things I wanted... But god damn I loved that campaign, really went toe-to-toe with Halo 2's campaign for me. Forge world introduced some of the best interactive map game types which I still play to this day.

Yeah, I think I got maybe a third of all the unlocks before I stopped playing. I'd started getting more into WoW around that time and that was taking over a lot of my game time, and knowing it would take hundreds of matches to get close to the armor pieces I really wanted didn't really make me want to keep playing, especially since I wasn't having as much fun as I was with 3. I got into 4 a little bit, but it didn't hold my attention either. Finally moved on to Destiny and didn't get back into Halo until this past summer with MCC PC.

One thing that I definitely enjoy about MCC's version of Reach is that it's so much easier to get those unlocks now. It was still a long grind before challenges, but now that those are in the game, it's not nearly as bad. Grinding through seasonal challenges gives a big chunk of points to spend, and all that experience helps you level up faster too. Weekly challenges aren't too bad either, so it's fairly easy to earn five to ten points a week. I finished off my season 1 unlocks early in the season and now I've got about fifteen points to go in season 2. I'm just glad that a decade later, I'm finally able to rock the armor I always wanted.

I was in love with Reach when it came out, the final "mission" got me feeling things a game never made me feel before. Crazy to think it's been 10 years.

Faster than I thought, ODST is coming to PC next Tuesday, September 22nd.
Since they said season 3 starts with ODST's release, that means there's less than a week to finish off any season 2 challenges you might have left, particularly the golden Halo 1 skins. If you want to grind those quick, an easy method is to load up Reach Firefight, Gruntpocalypse, give yourself the appropriate weapons with bottomless clip, boost damage to max, and make yourself invulnerable. You'll one-shot Grunts pretty easily with any weapon, and you'll never have to reload or worry about dying. Point and shoot until done.

I've been playing recon slayer all day. The ODST pistol feels really nice although the model seems huge.

Wow, I wasn't really expecting the next one to drop so soon.

Tell me, is the MCC version of ODST on a new graphics engine like Halo 2 Anniversary or is it the same basic game as from 2009?

Pour one out for Reach boys and girls, the game just turned 10 today.

I know, I can't really believe it either, time sure flies faster than we think it does.

I didn't get around to finally playing Reach until last month, but it was worth it to finally play it, I loved fighting Elites again and I loved fighting in some pretty atypical locales for a Halo game like a nightclub

Wait, can you just set yourself as invincible with infinite ammo, set it to FF classic, and get it that way? Or does it lock you out of it?

Probably. Unless it's something that specifically requires you to use matchmaking, pretty sure you can tweak the settings in custom firefights to put things in your favor as much as possible.

I don't see why not, mods are pretty easy to make for Halo since it's mostly just tag switching to my knowledge, it's just that anymore more complicated than that is a pain.
Also the idea that Shinji Mikami could make an RE4 clone but with the flood or a Vanquish clone but Spartans is funny to me. It will never happen but I would still probably like it.

That sounds like something that would take effort when you could just, you know...

I'm going to end up killing myself trying to complete the Endure challenge. God, I want bug-splattered Buck though.
No helmet Buck you mean, right? Because you can get bug-splattered Buck (but with helmet on) just for killing 250 Drones in either ODST campaign or Firefight. (Or was it 200? I don't remember. I just spent last night restarting from the third rally point on Data Hive to finish farming the challenge)

I'm willing to try this for science and report back if need be. And if it doesn't work, then, hey, nothing wasted but time.

Thanks, man. I was wondering because I wouldn't put it past 343 to not remember to bar you from getting helmet-less bug splattered Buck if you activated invincibility or infinite ammo.

The other seasonal challenges seem to work just fine with infinite ammo and boosted damage so I doubt they made an exception for that one particular challenge.

Actually, looking over the challenge requirements again, I'm not so sure I can successfully try this since the wording for the challenge suggests that it requires a 4-person team to meet the criteria. Whoops.
