I know they won't ever do it, but if they can bring Joe back..

do you think...?

Big news. They're bringing in Joseph Staten (Halo 1/2/3/ODST/Destiny 1 writer) as a new project lead for Infinite's campaign.

He's probably there to make sure they get it finished on time, with the possibility of providing larger support for future campaign updates. Microsoft won't let the game slip to 2022 since it's the shot in the arm that the Series X needs, so I highly doubt they're doing some major overhaul for the campaign.

It's about time... That said, hiring a new project lead for the campaign when you were originally ready to ship your game in 4 months says how much they've screwed up.

I doubt that they will bring him back. They've hired 3 composers to make the cacophony in Infinite.

Started up Halo 3.

It's giving me mixed emotions because while I haven't played the single player barely at all since it first came out in 2007 and that makes it pretty nostalgic, it also looks way dated, which drives home how long ago 2007 was and makes me feel blue.

The purist in me is glad it's not an updated Anniversary version and instead the actual game from 2007, since that is more nostalgic, but it's pretty jarring to go from the Anniversary version of Halo 2 to vanilla 3.

What really makes me laugh is the human character models faces in Halo 3, video game graphics have come a very long way since 2007.

3 also has the best side character in the entire franchise, Chips Dubbo.

Great environmental detail. Aged facial expressions.

The environments are inconsistent, the opening jungle looks pretty good but the human structures like the barracks look just about as bog standard as 7th gen graphics get, which isn't a real appealing look these days, but I'm still fairly early and haven't gotten to the Ark yet.

Overall the game isn't hideous, there's plenty of other 7th gen games that have aged way worse, but it isn't particularly attractive either, even some other early Xbox 360 games like Dead or Alive 4 or Perfect Dark Zero hold up a bit better.

I think they didn't do a remaster of 3's graphics for a few reasons. First, it was already in HD from the start since it released on a seventh-gen console, so there wasn't really a pressing need to do a remaster. Second, it was ported to the MCC at the same time as the other games in the collection, so 343 probably didn't want to spend time doing two remasters at once (potentially three if they decided to update 4 at the same time). Finally, they generally saved remasters for a 10-year anniversary, so 2017 would have been a decent time to do it, if not for all the difficulties involved with post-launch support for MCC and Halo 5. Probably decided it wasn't worth the trouble since the graphics look good enough.

Still has a great campaign though, my personal favorite of the original trilogy. And multiplayer is just as fun today as it was 13 years ago. Plus the Acrophobia skull they added in is super fun to use, as long as you don't smash face-first into a wall and kill yourself (which I've done numerous times).

This. They gave him the Johnson treatment, where he was just a generic soldier in the first game but given a more prominent role in the next two.
I wouldn't call it "giving him a more prominent role" moreso than making him a recurring marine that you're really only going to be able to pick out of a crowd of NPCs based on the voice actor, although he is usually given specific "setpiece" lines to make particular moments in a level stand out. Marcus Stacker is also a recurring marine that falls into this category.

Slight shame that they don't give them the same kind of story significance that they gave Johnson, though, although if they did, they'd probably get a "canon" death as well.

Halo 3's campaign is easily the weakest of the original trilogy for me. Short, Brutes aren't as fun as Elites, Ark isn't really used to its full potential, Truth's whole personality was changed, and the cutscenes are far shorter and less impactful compared to Halo 2.
