One little tism I have that I'm not sure if anyone else pointed out yet is the aesthetic of the flood. In the good game, the flood had more fungus like in appearance, largely because that what it literally was. But the flood now just looks like corrupted flesh. The flood use to have green glowing bits but they completely dropped that look. Some lore shill might excuse that because it makes the flood less scary and the "updated" look makes it more of a threat. I say that is kind of the point. It gives you an idea to why the Forerunners, these super advance ancient species that should have no problem stopping space mold, failed to stop the flood and resorted mass suicide just to contain it. They didn't take it seriously enough until it was too late. It makes the flood that much more threatening.

Anyone who tries to use booklore to defend this shit should be publically flogged.

Muh booklore stole Rookie from us.
I bet they thought that would be ok to do because Rookie literally had no character. That was because he was intentionally made to be a self insert for the player and meant for you to imagine yourself in the universe. You can relate and put yourself in the shoes of a normal dude far more than a 7"2" green super brick. 343 literally killed the player in that book. Very 343 thing to do.

Wasn't this also one of the first things 343 did in the books? I cannot remember the 343 timeline really at all, I just remembered killing Rookie was one of the first things I heard about.
The first thing they did was begin the Forerunner retcon in the first book of the Forerunner trilogy.

The Rookie was killed in the Alpha-Nine book series

truly disgusting
I remember it tripped me the fuck up when I was reading the Forerunner trilogy, they'd talk about Earth (erde tyrene in the shitty book) and how humans were primitive, but then talk about the Forerunners being super advanced, and teenage me was like, "Why the fuck are the Forerunners both primitive and advanced? Why is their homeworld a primitive shithole?"

God, I hate 343

Doublepost but the game released officially 4 hours ago

Its all-time peak was 19,000 players when it first went into early access.

The MCC's and Infinite's players for context on how poorly this game is doing on its release day. Both Infinite and the MCC's Steam releases resulted in player counts in the 100,000's

Última edición:
Fall of Reach is still canon AFAIK, at worst the bits of it that do contradict Reach just got overwritten. And IIRC Halsey's journal that came with Reach also tried to reconcile the two.

But as always, muh books is just an excuse for shitty writing. And what's funny is, 343 and their sycophants always pick and choose when they actually matter. The books didn't matter when the Didact, who had been portrayed as a semi-complex character, got reduced to a mustache twirling supervillain in Halo 4. They didn't matter when Jul Mdama, who had also been built up a lot, got one of the most insulting and anticlimactic death scenes of all time. And they sure as shit didn't matter when 5 and Infinite threw pretty much everything they had been building up in the garbage.

There's also a difference between John and some ODSTs having a dick measuring contest during training and ODSTs acting bitchy towards him after he just saved them from being experimented on by a crazy Josef Mengele-type sect of the Covenant. One is believable, and the other is just stupid.
