I was always in the camp that believed bungie never liked the halo books.
Me too. I'm glad they never accepted others as canon besides their games. Makes everything easier and less cluttered compared to 343's convoluted dogshit. Halo isn't Star Wars or WH40k it is a vidya series that ended with Reach. Lore spergs are retarded.
I'm convinced Destiny players got Stockholm Syndrome from playing the game too long.
Sunk cost fallacy.

I've said this to friends and i'll say it here, why they didn't just make an ODST tv show akin to something like saving private rayan or any military hollywood action movie about a squad of soldiers is beyond me
not saying it would of been better or even good but still, those live action commercials show the potential with the right people can be there but we are long past the era of actual passion for products

Rest in piss, Master Cheeks, now put the rest of the franchise to rest as well.
Fr though. For me Halo is like one of those franchises. Like Star Wars where I feel like it didn't need any more major continuations. Side content and stuff unrelated to the main story? Sure maybe but we didn't need a sequel trilogy just like how I'd argue Halo 3 should've been the end tbh.
At least now after seeing 343's Halo 4. Sure there'd be unresolved plot threads but if this is what we get I'm fine with Halo 3 being the conclusion.

Halo 3 was the end and Bungie knew this, and that's why their next halo entries ODST and Reach had different protagonists and stories. I think 343 should have continued the experimental approach after 3, the green man's story is done. Do cooler and darker games that happen to be in the world of Halo. I think iD Software would treat this series much better or any fan who understood how Bungie did it.

Im glad I didn't remember "forward unto dawn" or any of the shitty 343 movies retconning the appearance of the stock Mjolnir Mark IV, V, And VI until now.

343 still never explained why they had chinese bootleg chief for the greater part of the 2010's and why we couldn't use that armor in multiplayer when the chief's armor was always the default one in the bungie games. Halo infinite is the exception to that.

Most of the lore spergs are discordnigger newfags who haven't actually played the original xbox/360 games yet feel entitled to try and dictate reality for everyone else for some bizarre reason. Truly is a source of lolcows.

Did that Installation 00 game ever come out or was that just vaporware bullshit akin to yandere simulator? Since I remember that having a website you could sign up for and a "soon tm" when it came to playtesting it with playtests that never happened. Well the entire god damn MCC was released on PC with halo reach added to it since then and it was pvp only but had playable elites announced.

It has been a while, but I distinctly recall that Installation 00 was an ardent defender of the Halo TV show. I more or less dropped him after seeing maintain such a stubborn defense, even if the rest of his lore videos were decent enough.

As for the rest of the lore stuff, I for one did enjoy the original series of books that came out during Bungie's rein. Without them, we would not have gotten the ODSTs. Those were a nice addition to the Halo franchise. But I can understand Bungie's contempt for anyone else touching their baby, especially in light of what has happened to countless IPs over the years when they have been passed on to poor custodians. Halo, Star Wars, Doctor Who, just to name a few. At least during the run of those books and side games like Halo Wars, Bungie was there to apply *some* form of pressure. But seeing the state of both Halo and the nu-Bungie, I can't say there is any salvaging the franchise short of a complete retcon of the 343 saga. Some of the additions could be salvaged, such as the Banished. But like with Star Wars, there was such missed opportunities with 343's trilogy. At this point, I'd trust a mediocre fanfiction writer to come up with something better.

Actually, they have come up with better. Granted, much of the stuff out there needs some TLC and refinement in order to be properly integrated into a decent set of lore proper, but it was a hell of a lot better than the total output of 343 at this point in time.

One crossover fic I recall that at least managed to salvage Halo 5's abysmal story was that the experience from Fireteam Osiris's POV was more or less a dream, the only instance I can recall where having it just be a dream would be an actual improvement. Instead, Cortana activated those Forerunner sites on planets that at the point of 2552 had been thoroughly fucked over by the Covenant. There was no AI rebellion, just a fabrication inside the minds of Team Osiris via their neural lace to keep them busy and unharmed while Cortana did her thing, which was to reactivate and commander those powerful Forerunner ships and whatever else was out there to put the screws on what remained of the Neo-Coveneant and anyone else that dared threaten humanity. She did not learn of those human casualties due to her rampant state, too distracted and focused on getting her goals accomplished, and regretted causing so much damage to what accounted to those few human colonies that managed to reestablish themselves.

In other words, that fic alone showed more respect to John, Cortana, and the rest of the UNSC in a single chapter than 343 did in the entirety of their custodianship of Halo thus far. And it isn't the only one. It even managed to tweak the Banished to be more than just the villain of the week, altering them to having a strained relationship with the UNSC but otherwise remaining on even terms in retaining their own independence as a faction.

My point is, I rather trust any random fan than most anyone at 343 at this point. They have thoroughly illustrated their incompetence and contempt for the original source material, and I don't see that changing even if Microsoft gave them the boot. They'd just be replaced by more who would do the same. Halo as a franchise is not fit to survive for much longer, and it would be for the best it'd be laid to rest rather than twist its body to be something it is not.

If nothing else, part of that old ember is still alive in some form in the fandom, and that is through the few fan artists, writers, and modders that remain to keep the torch lit. Despite my anger at some of the design decisions I mentioned in those mods a few weeks back, I could tell those devs actually gave a damn to work miracles on an engine that was never meant to be modded in the first place. Properly tweaked, I could see those mods becoming something truly special. Same with any other fan output in the fandom, including those fan games that never seemed to get off the ground, such as Installation 01. From the quick look I gave of it, it seems it died a quiet death. The other few I remember popped up at the time I have been unable to locate, so I assume they have meant with a similar fate. Pity, seeing it would be nice to have an alternative to Halo MCC and Eldewrito's questionable security practicies.

(A video from five years ago detailing the project status.)

Scratch that, it seems there's been an update as of July 13.

So, it seems they have since swapped to the Unreal Engine. I'm not holding my breath for whether it'll come out or not. Ambitious projects of this nature usually end up dyng a quiet death more often than not. But I have some hope that *something* will come of it. Worst comes to worse, it'll just be another dead project in the end.

Project Contingency meanwhile seems to be similarly active in some capacity, last updated Jan 21 of this year.

At the very least, there is an active alpha of some form.

Again, I am not holding my breath. But if all goes well, maybe we'll see something come of these projects in a couple years or so. We'll just have to see.

In the meantime, there are other little things to occupy my time. Pipi seems be throwing out some banger animations, such as these few.

Brussell Studios also throws out a couple banger space battles too.

In any case, I am just happy there's something going on to keep that spark alive.

I wanted a show focused on one of the UNSC ships (the ideal would be the Infinity) with the writing being a mix of BSG and Star Trek (before JJ/Kurtzman).
They could have also made a small-scale show taking place on a ring in a colony where people start disappearing, they find out that there's an old Forerunner facility where an ancilla is working on the Flood and stuff happens.
I said it before but to me, the Chief should never appear in live-action. That medium should be used for exploring the Halo universe and expand on the lore.

I liked the halo evolutions short movies because they did something like that and used the setting more effectively than the games. I felt more for the barren glassed wasteland of Kholo than I ever did for the overhyped dogshit that was Bungie's final vision of Reach.

Warthogs just aren't gonna cut it against wraiths and most of the armor the covenant was packing. I could believe the warthog zergrush on a backwater like Kholo, but not REACH. Where the fuck was the artillery and light tanks and other UNSC land vehicles? This is a FORTRESS world. The Spirit of Fire should not have a better armament (AA, Artillery, several variants of aircraft, exo suits, several infantry types including Spartans, ODST's, flamethrowers, etc), than the UNSC's largest stronghold in known space where the best they could come up with on Reach is 3 frigates, 2 squadrons of sabre fighters, a handful of longswords, and a zerg rush of fucking warthogs and maybe a few scorpions? They couldn't even be bothered to include the gauss hog in the campaign.

Bungie clearly died at some point during Halo Reach's development. As they went on to make destiny made it a glorified repeat of Halo 2 where the covenant invaded 1 city in specific: New Alexandria New mombasa and then sent the master chief off to Halo 1. While gimping the halo 3 scarab for some reason in the process by breaking all the lighting and textures on it for no reason and making them invulnerable outside of cutscenes.

It makes sense that the Spirit of Fire had more resources as this was at the start of the war with the Covenant and the UNSC was gearing up to fight the Insurrectionists, which was the whole point of creating the Spartans. By the time of the fall of Reach the UNSC was on its last legs and was willing to throw Hail Marys (Operation Red Flag, creation of Cortana etc) to end the war.

because that would require the people to actually have read the extended universe books or care about the franchise and not be hack writers who are trying to insert their agenda in absolutely everything you know most of the original Halo writers aren't doing anything right now and between work you could probably hire them ohh wait some of them are conservative that's not gonna happen

The spirit of fire is a support vessel it's actually more of a troop carrier than an actual warship of course it has way more stuff on it then your standard cruiser heavy destroyer.

Sadly Halo wars didn't sell too well with the sequel it was a solid game though so we're not getting a Halo wars 3

also the department of naval intelligence did nothing wrong stop trying to make friends with these aliens hinge head lover

That whole warthog rush scene was done purely because it looked cool, and with Bungie, the rule of cool superseded nearly everything else. Although I do agree with you that Reach is easily the worst of the Bungie games, the campaign was a big downgrade from Halo 3 and even ODST. It also added extremely shitty and unnecessary armor abilities that messed up the multiplayer balancing. I often wonder if 343 would have added sprint if Bungie didn't include it in their last game.

Yeah tip of the spear was a pretty cool mission. Reach was not a terrible or insulting campaign. Its just not the apocalyptic doomsday that should have made New Mombasa look like a cakewalk. "The fleet that glassed reach was 50 times this size" when I'm pretty sure there are more ships and supercarriers in halo 2/3/the battle of earth than the 2 Carriers and 3 corvettes (the smallest ship size in any given navy fleet) in halo reach.

As much as people bitch about sprint. I don't see enough give Reach's iteration of reticle bloom shit for being a horrible mechanic that allows you to fire blank rounds and miss shots that real life firearm equivalents would not have missed even within point blank range. Even 343 has consistently made a better DMR than the Reach DMR.

I just want a good video game that follows up on ODST and Reach.
Instead, we are getting another remake of Combat Evolved perhaps even on the Playstation. It's time to check out of this franchise like Bungie did in 2010. Xbox and many companies as a whole are some fucking parody of themselves these days.
You guys keep monkey pawing yourselves by wishing for multimedia for Halo, that time is long past us. Let Halo rest and live with the memories you made with it. Or, get into modding and fucking do whatever you wanted yourself now that we have the tools.

The only good thing about 343 would be the megabloks/mega construx Halo sets from like 2009 to now, and thats literally where it ends lol. Granted thats mostly thanks to the company who makes em.
This puts us back at 0. 10+ years of a terrible studio handling a large IP. Also Halo Wars 1 was great, it's a god damn shame it resulted in the death of Ensemble Studios (original Age Of Empires developers)

Halo's been dead for 14 years.

Ensemble actually cared about Halo wars. Also making it the easiest RTS to pick up and learn and they had some awesome GDC speeches demonstrating how they got halo wars 1 to look better than a lot of contemporary games and optimize it. Optimization? that's a foreign concept in the "just buy a better computer" world of 2024 and discordniggers. (Despite we all knowing that better hardware doesn't make a shitty game run better)

And the craziest part is according to another nigger in the thread Bungie tried their best to sabotage them whenever possible.
