I think some of them do it for fun with no money involved. I really wish they'd stop using animu style, though... those are more prone to the uncanny valley than others.

I honestly have no idea. I always thought they just crawled straight out of the bowels of hell to litter the internet with their pinkness and shitty graphics. But the thought of people willingly creating them...that's just even worse.
