I hate the entire philosophy of the musical "RENT". It's a bunch of lazy liberal hipsters whining about how nobody will pay their rent, while half the cast die of AIDS because they're fucking morons who couldn't exercise any self-control, and when any of them make any successful efforts at all to end their own failure, they immediately stop because "that's selling out"... (Though it's totally cool for one of the main characters to later hack an ATM and steal money from other people, because reasons...) And yet...
I actually quite like most musicals in general for some reason, and the musical aspects of RENT are somehow agreeable to me... Even though I hate almost every single main character in RENT- except for ironically, the gay/tranny (it really isn't clear what he is, he seems to change his mind throughout the story). He's the only one who actively tries to make his life better (Ironically by literally killing a dog.. He's a good guy though, so it's ok.) Even more ironically he's the only one to actually die from AIDS in the story.
I lied, I also like the character played by the guy who fucked Idina Menzel irl, because his character actually succeeded in making his life better, (even if it was by marrying a wealthier woman than himself) but he's still considered a villain in the story for this. I will reiterate, the tranny literally killed his dog. (But it's a joke, so it's ok.)
Yep, guilty pleasure.
