Anyone here have guilty pleasure media they're willing to share? I got this idea while watching early NCIS. By all accounts it's a bog-standard CSI rip-off with a Navy skin but I still like it for what it is even if what it is isn't that high quality. I'll also have a spot in my heart for ST Voyager as it was the first Star Trek I watched back when I was a wee basketball player even though the plot and behind-the-camera drama made it a middling Star Trek series (before Discovery of course).

My family and I used to record a lot of TV in the early 00's, and sometimes I go through the tapes and just take it all in. (programs typically include some assorted Comedy Central stuff, older programs and commercials...) It's all dated and very embarrassing to watch at times (don't need to point it out of you even remember the 00's), but a lot of it is filled with shit that feels real to this day, and still manages to surprise me.

Just goes to show how times have really changed, and yet it feels like time hasn't passed at all...

I hate the entire philosophy of the musical "RENT". It's a bunch of lazy liberal hipsters whining about how nobody will pay their rent, while half the cast die of AIDS because they're fucking morons who couldn't exercise any self-control, and when any of them make any successful efforts at all to end their own failure, they immediately stop because "that's selling out"... (Though it's totally cool for one of the main characters to later hack an ATM and steal money from other people, because reasons...) And yet...

I actually quite like most musicals in general for some reason, and the musical aspects of RENT are somehow agreeable to me... Even though I hate almost every single main character in RENT- except for ironically, the gay/tranny (it really isn't clear what he is, he seems to change his mind throughout the story). He's the only one who actively tries to make his life better (Ironically by literally killing a dog.. He's a good guy though, so it's ok.) Even more ironically he's the only one to actually die from AIDS in the story.

I lied, I also like the character played by the guy who fucked Idina Menzel irl, because his character actually succeeded in making his life better, (even if it was by marrying a wealthier woman than himself) but he's still considered a villain in the story for this. I will reiterate, the tranny literally killed his dog. (But it's a joke, so it's ok.)

Yep, guilty pleasure.

....Was that the basis of that "Everyone has aids" scene from Team America?

Yes, It was. The musical they were spoofing was called "LEASE"
I'm ashamed to say that the parody is an accurate one.

(Funny enough, I actually saw Team America before I ever saw RENT, lol.)

This first one is the IRL Jerri Blank.
I like fucked up old PSAs, like afterschool specials about drugs in the 80s or health class films from the 50s.

I like binge watching game sack or techmoan when I want to not think.

Makeup and shopping videos on YouTube. I guess, in a way, they have become my form of "window shopping" these days ... But the very concept of these videos is absolute mindless trash, yet I enjoy watching a lot of them.

I am also a total sucker for Christmas movies. Not just any type of Christmas movie; the most wholesome and cheesy Christmas movies. I may be an old, jaded asshole for most of the year ... But I freaking love Christmas, and I embrace all of the cheesy and happy things about Christmastime. Hallmark Channel FTW, is basically what I'm saying.

You tube mechanics. Some frustrate the shit out of me, some are absolute geniuses, but there's just something about watching someone diagnose, disassemble, repair and refit mechanical parts that puts me into a therapy zone. I can have the shittiest days, but when I come home and watch some dude on the other side of the world work out step by step why a 5.7 litre Chevy Suburban is running rough at idle, I am a leaf on the wind.
