Greenland has been in the news for the last year. The USA is interested in acquiring it from Denmark. It has a population of approximately 56k people and is rich in natural resources, including access to the Arctic. This thread is meant to discuss all happenings related to Greenland during this time, including its possible acquisition and what that might look like.

It's basically a very big iceberg that just so happens to have rock underneath it which makes it an even nastier iceberg because temperatures inland are always far more extreme than those near the coast.

Long-term thinking hasn't been a thing in the American government since before I was born and all it takes is for one admin to appoint a tree-hugger for any one big infrastructure project like the one needed to take advantage of this to get scrapped, so Greenland would probably stay the same as it has always been: Cold, empty, and miserably snowy.

9/10 the Danes will just issue a strongly-worded letter and then proceed to nothing because Europe has almost no defense industry to speak of and without either the Russians or the Americans to buy GNL and oil from they only have the North Sea, Algeria, and the Gulf countries if things actually get heated. Could be interesting to see whether the Iranians and the Egyptians manage to broker a deal of sorts to extract as much money from the euros as possible, with Egypt getting industrial assistance and the like and Iran having most of their sanctions lifted.

Also last time something somewhat similar like this happened was back in '95 when the Canucks and the Spaniards almost went to war over the Newfoundland's halibut fisheries. The tl;dr about that is that the Canucks wanted to extend their EEZ to keep all the euros out, the euros didn't care and kept sending their fishing boats, a Spaniard boat got captured by a Canuck vessel and their crew arrested as well, the Spaniards began to send patrol boats and IIRC a frigate too to try and pressure the Canucks, the rest of the Euros began to talk big about how they'd stand on Spain's side if things got heated and then the Spaniard government cucked out and backed down after the Canucks agreed to release the crew. The amount of fish that Euros were allowed to fish there then proceeded to drop by ~90% or so.

Tl;dr if the Euros from back when they still had somewhat of a backbone and no Russians to worry about cucked to Canada then they'll do nothing against the US
