Grateful dead? More like Gayful Head.
The only reason anyone even liked them was because a bunch of dirty stoned hippies followed them around getting high. If suddenly all the drugs ran out everyone would've looked at each other and felt very ashamed then went home.

I don't know or care about the band, but the name comes from a recurring theme in folk stories.
The "dead" aren't grateful to be dead. The stories are usually about a ghost whose corpse wasn't buried or who wasn't buried right, with the right coin or ceremony or something. In the stories, a traveler performs the proper steps so the spirit is no longer restless. Later the grateful spirit comes back and helps the traveler in their time of need.

I like the Grateful Dead and deadheads are fun to hang out with. They’re like boomer potheads and when you go to a cover show they all dance like a bunch of loons. Fun to people watch.
