Graphic Novels for Kids That Aren’t Woke - Trying to find graphic novels for an 8 year old

Fantagraphics still publish the first eight or nine volumes. IDW most recent publisher has been reprinting issues in color, from the start, as 'Color Classics' or 'Origins' or something. I think they might have one collected volume so far.

Dark Horse does have the bulk of the continuity in 8-9 big fuck-off phone book omnibus volumes. Remember phone books? They're great.
 
Just in case it's not clear, OP, Asterix and Tintin are what you want.

Although for Asterix you can pretty much ignore anything post All At Sea because shit gets weird there, and depending on how much you want the opposite of what you're trying to avoid, you can ignore Congo, America and Blue Lotus for Tintin (though I thoroughly enjoyed BL)

Its been a decade since I read it, but didn't The Invisibles have a trans protagonist? And didn't the introduction to the Omnibus include the letter Grant Morrison wrote asking all of his fans to masturbate simultaneously on the cover of the first issue so that his "sex magick" would increase sales and keep the series from getting cancelled? For an 8 year old?

Grant Morrison's shit is too weird for me as a 30 something, I wouldn't inflict it on an 8 year old.
 
For an eight-year-old, the only thing that I can give my recommendation for is Calvin and Hobbs. I know of some more western stuff that is more suitable for an older audience, but that is all I remember reading as a kid fits what you want.

The only other bit of advice I can give is to avoid the Sonic the Hedgehog comics at all costs. Just trust me on this one.

Edit: Also, I don't think this counts as 'comics', but Shel Silversteen and Captain Underpants are also good choices for kids.

Oh. Jesus, yeah it's a lot weirder than I remember it being now that I look it up. I just remembered it as being about fighting corrupt human sacrifice loving elite bloodlines. Didn't get cancelled though so I guess splooging on the cover worked. Yeah definitely not suitable for an 8 year old although I wasn't much older than that when I read it. If I went back and read it again now I'd probably be shocked at how woke it actually was. I was just trying to think of a graphic novel that isn't full of dumb superhero bullshit because I found the whole superhero thing a bit campy and gay when I was a kid. Not as gay as a Brazilian tranny though I guess.

Also this publisher (Papercutz, focus is on children's books so it is the right age for your kid, even better if it is a girl because they cover that too)

The Invisibles was a good comic, but under no circumstances should you give it to an eight year old. I have a seven year old who likes reading comics, and he enjoyed these

Danny Dragonbreath by Ursula Vernon
The Bad Guys by Aaron Blabey
Monster on the Hill by Rob Harrell
Lucy and Andy Neanderthal by Jeffrey Brown
 
There's this one adaptation of Dracula, but I don't remember the company. :|

Investigators is also good.

I have a kid who is a little younger than yours and have read these with him.
 
If you like Calvin & Hobbes, I suggest the collected edition of Wallace the Brave and Breaking Cat News.
