Gothic remake is out, the main complaints are the lockpicking and Jeet Engine 5 or jannies are on red alert to delete shit, idpol tourists are nowhere to be seen.

Apparently one of the settings called latency optimization is bugged and turning it off resolves the fps issues.

I've watched multiple hours of streamed gameplay and here's some observations apart from the obvious smaller bugs and extremely bad performance:
- Lots of lore retcons. Cinematic intro is the first example: in original the mages were spread all over the map at stones of power for the creation of barrier. In remake they're all next to each other. The guy who gives the letter to you at the beginning has been changed to another character. Gomez casually wears the end-game player ore armor from the original. There's probably way more but that's just from first couple hours that I saw.
- Art style is butchered for the sake of realism. Pickups like mushrooms or enemies just blend into the environment making it a chore to even notice them at all. In original you could clearly see a mushroom or a molerat from a kilometer away without squinting your eyes and having to guess. Everything just blends in in the remake.
- Atmosphere of many areas have been redesigned for the worse. The dark, dense forest is now just a bunch of loosely scattered trees and it looks no different than many other areas which aren't even supposed to be forests. A lot of locations are so generic you cant tell them apart. Swamp camp was given more advanced architecture, orcs were turned from the equivalent of an african tribe into an advanced race with big stone architecture. New camp was given the same treatment in its cave with the mages, from a primitive camp in a cave to a full on temple. That's not all though, just a few examples.
- Alkimia Interactive, who think they're so much smarter than the original devs have renamed the "Very High" graphics preset to "Alkimia Overdose". What a bunch of self-important fags.
- NPC dialogues have been given A LOT of unnecessary swears on top of modern day slang. It is very jarring. The original had pretty much none.
- In general a lot of the game feels like Alkimia has no respect for the original at all and are targeting the "modern audiences" first and foremost. Ones who think that realistic graphics and saying "fuck" in every sentence is peak quality. They were in development hell and redesigned the whole game multiple times after players saw how they butchered the game. This version is only SLIGHTLY butchered compared to the past demos so most are eating if up.

Alkimia Interactive (gods among developers) have made it so you can get an end-game weapon, armor, amulet and a ring in chapter 1. Yes, a full end-game set. Just beat up Gomez, loot him and use his key on his chest. If you sleep the AI just forgets any grudges, but even if it worked correctly you could just pay an NPC to reset the aggression of Gomez which would still be an extremely good deal. The weird thing is the armor seems to barely make a difference lol. Sometimes it blocks damage, sometimes it doesn't.
Don't criticize this though as the original Gothic also had bugs.

Because the devs want to join the 33% of Western game developers that got laid off in the past 2 years.
The actually hilarious part is that the women in Gothic 1 are sex slaves, sent for the express purpose of being used for sex, and considering the kingdom desperately needs the ore the convicts are mining, they sure as fuck wouldn't be sending ugly ones down into the colony.
The devs had a massive spergout on the Steam forums when people pointed out the women had that distinctive Western gamedev look to them.
Now they're apparently backpedalling and saying those were merely placeholder models, and they are totes going to respect the original vision and not be buckbroken male feminists.
I hope the game bombs and they all get laid off.

Im seeing screenshots from the game. They also are using placeholders on that? What a weird argument. I was thinking in buying this but after building a gaming pc i have zero patience for games running like shit

All we get are sequels, prequels, spin-offs, remakes and other such cowardly undertakings. And of course, even when they remake it, they simply defile the original's spirit.
And why Gothic? Even back in the day, it was niche and rather mediocre. All I remember was getting ass raped by a boar when starting the game.

This reeks of someone buying up IP rights and thinking they can do better than the original creators. This is not your ordinary slopmake, this is someone trying to one up and humiliate Piranha with their "genius" take on the game. Reminds me of how Crystal Dynamics raped Lara Croft into having not one but two failed revivals because they thought they knew better than Core Design. Apparently they didn't, I will be surprised if we see a demake of Gothic 2(aka the one everyone liked) after this shitshow.
