The game was kinda fucked from the start, there is a point to be made about original vision being replaced as a result of personal events, meddling by a superior, a forced need to rush the game or even the product of a sudden change of a lead writer (Yiik, sonic boom, dark souls and Pixar's Brave respectively), but then there's shit that is just flawed by design such as bethesda games, where the issues run deep with poor management, and key component in the team being incompetent and talentless retards.

Spanish players are VERY dedicated to a fan-base where they will make updates and/or spiritual sucessors to an already existing game. Streets of Rage Remake and Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo New Legacy are just a few examples of that strong dedication.
