You should make a point to ask about the "Haunted History" from locals. Each town there has stories they LOVE sharing with tourists, or places where they swear that you ABSOLUTELY will see a ghost/sea monster/freaky paranormal thing. It's fun to do, and the locals love sharing their stories with people.
 
Keep an eye out for the Iron Giant, he should be roaming the Maine woodlands feeding deer by now.
 
I grew up in Winter Harbor. Now the entire base is part of the national park. My old house is used for Bureau of Land Management storage!
 
We should have a Maine Kiwi meetup — all three of us.

They’ve got a sort of mini-music festival going on at the moment. Probably best if you catch it while there’s actually a band playing, though, cause I had the misfortune of stopping by while they were testing the equipment — every sentence in the conversation I was having was punctuated with ‘WHOMP’ noises from the speakers.
