It might hurt a bit because of scar tissue from the previous pierced holes. Don’t get them done with a piercing gun, go to a proper tattoo / piercing shop and have them pierce you with a needle.

Butterfly backs suck, you can opt to use the plastic backings as Otterly mentioned, or you can use threadless posts, like this:

Gold and titanium are the safest materials for your ears, with the latter being the cheaper option. It can take up to 3-4 months for the piercings to fully heal. Not sure where you’re located, but saline sprays as such are your best bet to assist with healing:

I’d say go for it. If you don’t like them, you can always take them out.

I got my ears pierced when I was 4. 3 years ago, I got 2 more holes in my ears, and then a few more after that (which I don't always use). I always liked the "constellation piercing" look and joked to my piercer that I wanted to turn my ears into pegboards.

Now, I can play around with various combinations of small hoops and studs. I get compliments all the time because they're pretty understated but unique, while still being professional.

They sort of look like this along my ear (with the two stacked middle ones being threadless, so I don't bother swapping them out): - : -. Right now, I have a gold hoop in the first hole, two stacked "diamonds", and a gold ball in the last hole. I sleep in them, and only ever swap out the hoop for something sparkly on special occasions.

This is a big long way of saying "absolutely! Go get pierced! Have fun!".

Get any re piercing done with a needle at a proper place and only wear gold or steel until fully healed then go for it
Implant-grade titanium is also fine. If you do wear gold while healing, make sure it's high quality. Some lower quality gold alloys have nickel.

This actually heals poorly, and you can feel a "bead" in the earlobe if it is done with a piercing gun (squeeze the earlobe and roll your fingers around, you'll feel something like a bead inside).
I have two piercings in each earlobe. The lower ones were done with a piercing gun at Claire's when I was 10, and the upper ones were done with a needle at a piercing shop 8 years ago. Only the upper ones have a "bead." The lower ones are softer and don't get irritated as easily. Go figure. (Still don't get pierced with a gun, it's a bad idea.)

I got my ears pierced when I was around 13 years old and love wearing diamond, pearl or nice white gold earrings. I never buy super expensive earrings but prefer fewer goo quality ones then heaps of cheaper ones. I agree that larger hoops earrings are tacky.

I also agree that earrings on men suck.
I love studs, but am also a big fan of goofy gimmick earrings for seasonal occasions like Christmas or Halloween.
I also love this. Especially at Christmas time.

Male here. I don't usually visit this side of the forum.

In my opinion, ear piercings are very unattractive. It's extremely rare to find a woman who doesn't have pierced ears, but I have tons of respect for the ones who keep their ears whole (or who let their piercings heal completely).

All piercings are repulsive, but if you have to have holes in your body with bits of metal or stone pierced through them, the ears are the least disgusting option. That's just my opinion though.

Related opinion: It's monstrous to pierce children's ears, especially babies. I disdain parents who pierce their babies' ears assuming that they'll want earrings when they grow up.

I had three lobe piercings on each ear at one point but now I just wear one with small hoops. I got a helix piercing almost 4 months ago and I have been vigilant on it to make sure it doesn't get infected (salt water sprays are a miracle worker). I don't mind earrings on men personally. 🤷‍♀️

I like those spiky silicone ball earrings that come in fun colours/patterns.

I also got mine done at Claire’s and it was fine, but that’s probably more luck than good judgement since piercing guns can’t be sanitised properly. Ideally you’d want to get them done at an actual tattoo/piercing type place, or at least if you do end up getting them done at Claire’s buy the aftercare kit and use the disinfectant stuff on your ears frequently, My mom did that and it probably helped them not become infected.

Surprised I didnt see anyone say they DIY'ed it ITT yet
Years ago as a dumb kid I used a wine cork, rubbing alcohol, ice and a sewing needle and put two in each ear
The hardest part was getting the earring in afterwards because youre like digging around in your lobeflesh trying to find the other end on the back
It all went well in my case so Im not too certain how badly DIY ear piercings could potentially go

I just got my ears re-pierced and realized that I have no earrings that I want to wear. Though I do think the ones that have the chains are cute and add on nicely to outfits. Other than that, simple ones are kinda lack luster

My mom had my ears pierced as a baby, not at Claire’s though.
She took me to a Christmas party when I was 3 or 4, and one of my earliest memories is having my earring catch onto a piece of upholstered furniture when I was playing with other kids. My mom stopped with the earrings; I didn’t like them anyways. I’d beg and whine for her to not put them in my ears.
My one ear healed back; the other one that ripped still has a little tear in it, 30 years later.

If I ever have a daughter, I’m not piercing her ears as a child because of it. At the earliest, I’d do it when she’s a teenager and can be careful with it.

I do see cute earring sets every now and then, but I’d probably just wear clip ons now if I ever really wanted to. I don’t really wear jewelry in general now.

I've never understood why mothers do this to their babies unless it's just a visual way of telling others they view their children as dolls to play dress-up with. I have no idea why it is these places don't turn them away unless they're all done at home.

It’s funny how there are certain lines that mothers divide neatly on, and ear piercing is one of them.
-you need to be 16 and we go to a piercing salon and you have to be able to care for them as they heal!

-six weeks old muh culture
If you ever fancy a fight in a parenting board, ear piercing airs is a prime way to trigger one.

OP, did you end up getting them? I’ve got a few piercings myself, plus a failed sternum piercing. The keloid scarring has mostly faded now, but for a while it honestly looked like I’d had heart surgery.:lit:

I’m planning on getting a few more in the tops of my ears. As for the gunk, good hygiene definitely keeps it under control, but I also found that using a soft plastic bar with a steel ball on the end made cleaning so much easier.

I can’t remember what they’re called, but I had one for my sternum piercing and it made the healing process so much more comfortable than using studs or regular earrings.

I'm just popping in to report that exactly a year ago I had my ears repierced at a studio. The piercing girl was very nice and quick and it didn't hurt a bit on one side but the other side crunched through the scar from when I had them done at Claire's a million years ago. The Claire's gun piercings never really healed completely. These needle ones still act up if I wear heavy earrings or wires made of questionable metal. I mostly use the little titanium threadless style (from upthread on this very page) and find them most comfortable.
