What's even better than the blackwashing edits are the edits where woke anglos draw the Liyue and Imazuma characters more "authentic". Even first half of the 20th century anti-Asian propaganda posters look less racist than the slant-eyed depictions of Ganyu and co. And of course they're still being drawn as way too dark-skinned because these people have apparently never seen a Japanese or Han Chinese person in their life.

I've finally seen X users from those countries push back against that kind horribly stereotypical depiction though. However, wokies never acknowledge they're wrong about anything and insist they're doing Asians a favour by drawing them like racial caricatures.

This might be a bit of a hot take: Genshin is one of the very few games in which a somewhat reasonable and sound argument could be made for making the skin tone of certain characters much darker in fanworks and fanart than what they are in game.
The characters such reasoning could be applied to would be characters that are inspired from cultures whose people have darker skin tone. For example, Mavuika. Mavuika is named after the Maori fire goddess Mahuika - the Polynesian skin tone is around a golden brown color. A similar case could be made for Ororon, whose name may be from the supreme god and ruler of the sky in Yoruba mythology, Olorun, and as such it is somewhat reasonable to portray him as black or having a dark skin tone.

This doesn’t apply to all characters. Where this reasoning falls apart is when you make black edits of characters like Furina or Ganyu, who come from French and Chinese cultures respectively - it’s just straight up inaccurate and it’s pretty much being done for brownie points. Just my opinion, and in any case it’s pretty easy to block such artists that you may feel inject their politics into the game doing stuff like that.

There's some mods that change the skintones of the characters ,I picked some out from a modding website so people can come to their own conclusions. I don't think they look particularly SJW or unnatural honestly. It would look weird if a character like Yae Miko was dark skinned but it works with these designs.

When it has nothing to do with stupid niggers. It's literally just about class. Pale skin is a beauty standard because it was common for the elite to stay all day indoors, while the poor were out working in the fields, often in the baking sun.

But some people equate it to some kind of attack on people with naturally darker skin, which is a really infantile and narrow-minded view on the whole thing. Most people have this amazing thing we call nuance.

I'm actually surprised there's a lot of criticism of Columbina's character teaser. I'll freely admit she's not for me at all (I can't stand her moaning and grunting noises), but I thought everyone would be head over heels for her pity bait trailer. Instead, I've seen lots of people, even those who like her, complain about the ML and foot fetish pandering, though I guess Chinese males, the main target group of the game, are eating it up.

I personally neither loved nor hated it; I just thought that they were trying to pull another Nahida teaser and failed on that. At least for me watching it didn't elicit anything even close to the emotion I had when watching the Nahida trailer.

People complain about genshin having overdesigned characters and yet they then pull shit like that mod as the "fix" which astounds me.

Doesn't feel like it's been a whole ass year or so since natlan shit but I still really find it neat and cool how each village has their own outfit style that carries over between the playable characters and NPCS from the same village.

Out of the natlan cast, mualani would benefir the most from darker skin as she has "tribal tanlines" that are very easy to miss. Not make her black but an actual tan as she's just white.

I'm trying to speedrun Durin's quest before the next patch and i'm sure someone who cares more about it than me must be upset how often they explictly refer to dragonspine durin as "The Evil Dragon", but i find funny how rhinedotir/gold appears chilling with the witches.

I forgot but in Durin's hex buff quest you meet Rhinedotir and she challenges you to beat a few slimes so durin get stronger and he calls her "auntie" and thats it. I don't think traveler says anything.

It's such a weird introduction for a character who has been hyped for years as the creator of multiple weapons of mass destruction for shits and giggles and almost fucked the world forever and is now presented as this quirky aunt in the quirky aunt witch group. Not like alice is an angel but ya know.

I guess hoyo will turn her into another Ruan Mei where the woman is totally a mad scientist but she's "morally gray" cause she's just doing experiments for science so she's not evil.

She's actually slightly tanned compared to other characters to begin with. It's just not as intense as other characters with a tan like xinyan or kaeya.

Yeah i know but it's not enough. Once you realize how pale as sheet most of the cast is, mualani just looks normal.

And mualani is obviously meant to be the "tanlined tomboy swimmer waifu" anime trope, to the point hoyo actually sneaked a bikini tanline on her hips, but they can't even commit to make her notably tanned as those characters, almost if they're afraid of her not potentially looking white passing.

Compare it to something like Cammy's summer skin in street fighter 6, based on official summer art of her.



Xilonen suffers a bit too because she is obviously meant to be an artificially tanned ganguro trope but she just look normal, altho it's not a huge loss or anything.



Of course, modders kinda miss the point and usually make xilonen fully black, and/or vitiligo and change her clothes to be native tribe clothes.

I never got that from her design, she just looked like a normal conventionally attractive woman. I however do find it weird how she's designed the way she is given she's a tech/mechanic kind of character and nothing really speaks to that. Like even characters who aren't designed like too many other characters like varessa have elements showcasing the kind of character they are with the tape on the hands and emphasis on the legs for the character that's big thing is running and outdoorsy work shit.

The only thing they've had close to "darkies" are middle easterner equivalents and asian/european inspired people with tans that western twitter decided were black despite them very visibly being not black.

I know alice got the whole hilichu grinder idea but monstat respects her and she is alice's mom. She's a lil crazy tho and probably thinks rhinedotir/Gold's stuff is FUNNY.

Gold on the other hand has a large body count, is still getting new WMD reveals (bakunawa) and is one of the sinners who include an active planet destroyer and a child killer. She hangs out with the godwitches and super shades cause she's that powerful but it's weird how casual those scenes felt. I remember childe being more distrusted by traveler in older events.

Yea some heroes are villains but there's always a catch. This is the game that revealed Childe was ignorant and wasn't actually a threat to liyue, "retconned" Scaramouche's sins and shifted all the worst Arlechino crimes to another person. There is a reason no one sane thinks Dottore will be playable without a caveat. It's weird now but i won't be surprised if they wash away her stuff too.

Xilonen being this tech genius feels like an absorbed concept from a different scrapped character that needs to exist to explain some of the tech.

Varesa is the only character who has to eat a taco in her official art to explain she's mexican because at first glance it's impossible to get that and i sure didn't. She's meant to be a wrestler but the leg warmers, miniskirt and sweater sleeves is just like japanese kogal fashion. It's fine in a vaacum and i grew to like it but without the mask there is no way to grasp she's a mexican wrestler.

She's not mexican, she's natlanese. Natlan is literally based on a mix of mexico and a bunch of other mesoamerican countries in terms of shit it pulls from/is inspired by on top of some africa stuff.

The leg warmers and sweater sleeves are because fitness/ jogger shit rather than japanese fashion. The village she comes from is the luchadore one though and my point was the playable characters from that one don't immediately clock as luchadore types.

I just meant her tanlines are not as noticiable it's not that deep.

Yes and my point is I like them being not that noticable because it gives a bit of character design variety with small details like that.
