General Wrestling Discussion

Hangman Page is low man on the totem pole. I think its a bit troubling that somebody they want to be a heavyweight champ within a year was taken to the limit by Kip Sabian. Its just been solid wrestling.

The worst thing about AEW, apart from the commentary of JR being disgruntled and burying and exposing shit and Alex "Parts Unknown, Canada" Marvez is the women. The Americans seem green and sloppy and one already got concussed by another American and the Japanese women are beyond pint sized. They're booking one at 147 centimeters, which means she's what, 4 foot 9? At the same time they have those Kong wrestlers and Nyla Rose. The Americans look gigantic even compared to them, and their hoss wrestlers contrast horrendously with them. They did that rope drape "holy shit did the fun sized joshi wrestler just get murdered?" spot and then had the gigantic shemale that outweighed her opponent by about 150 pounds lose off a roll up and get driven off of her post-match beatdown.

I'm seeing a bunch of people on the roster where I don't see them drawing a dime for the company, like Shawn Spears, Dark Order, etc. Best Friends/Dark Order as a major tag team storyline, really?

I'm happy to see the Luchasaurus/Jungle Boy is over with the live audiences big time. The tag team cream like them and Private Party will rise to the top and the crummy guys will sink, hopefully.

I don't remember if I mentioned this here, but someone took a "May I boo?" sign to ROH Best in the World this year, and held it up during the Allure's entrance. I think some WWE fan should make a sign like that for Alexa Bliss because YIKES.

I'm just shocked that the guy used the words "they're", "their", and "there" properly, and in a single sentence even.

That dentist chick needs to go full New Generation Wrestler With A Side Job goofy Issac Yankem shit, or like the evil chiropractor that was in FCW for a minute, or the time the Eugene guy was an evil doctor in Ring Ka King.
I'm disappointed they aren't doing more with their AAA working relationship for the gals. AAA has a pretty good women's roster.

Jungle Boy's pretty good. I hope he ends up feuding with Barbero Cavernario someday. I'm not that in to Luchasaurus, but he works decently as Jungle Boy's sidekick. I hope they become a trio with now-indie Jurasico (formerly Raptor)

They did that thing where they antagonized the audience with a really long, shitty match and when it got boos, hey, that's heat. That's good heel work. I mean, not really, but whatever? There was a segment where Alexa went outside the ring for an entire commercial break and was playing up to the audience how smart she was and the other wrestlers trash talked her for being a boring coward. So the crowd saying Alexa sucks and the match is boring and wanting Nattie to win, isn't that mission accomplished?

It was such a long, awful match.

I've been watching every Raw and Smackdown ever since they started airing (all the way back to 1993). For the first time I'm seriously considering no longer watching any weekly shows and just PPVs because the weekly shows are such garbage. They've been awful for a long time. The PPVs aren't much better, but I might hate them less if I only watch once a month.

CMLL can be very helpful for transitioning off of WWE weekly shows. The big weekly CMLL show is their live Friday show, but they have live stuff from 10p eastern Monday Nights and 830 eastern Tuesday nights. The Mon and Tues shows are live on youtube.

So what channel's their Friday show on? Youtube as well?

I should get that Amazon device that lets you watch NJPW World someday. I owe it to how great they've been.

Mostly yes.
They have a geoblocked stream on youtube they do themselves, and after it's done they upload it as a normal all-region video on their youtube channel.
there's legit streams available in the USA via Marca, on their facebook and their website (https://www.marca.com/claro-mx/streaming/2019/03/23/5c95617b268e3e1b5b8b45b0.html I think)
and there's this one guy "thecubsfan" who refeeds it on his youtube each week live to all regions
he updates over at https://twitter.com/luchablog
taima tv usually has a synchtube of either the marca feed or the youtube refeed from cubsfan

Is AAA worth it?

I've heard mixed things about them.

They're unironically my favorite promotion.
They've had a string of bad luck productionwise for a long time, but things have been pretty solid for a while now. Their current English announce team is a couple of guys who clearly don't speak English as their first language, but they've got good energy and are on-topic compared to Vampiro and Matt.
Their women wrestlers are legit some of the best, they handle intergender wrestling leagues better than everybody else, they flip like the flippiest flips that ever flipped a flip, when they go deathmatch they go in pretty hard for a promotion with TV clearance. Their main event stuff is nice enough, usually a bit heavy on the bullshit in a good way.
They have a good vibe like that energy from 90s crash tv from the USA. They'll have good amounts of bullshit finishes where a bunch of people run in. About a year or two back they literally had the entire locker room run out on each other one person at a time.

So I’ve been following the G1, mostly for 1st timers KENTA & Jon Moxley. After the matches with Cobb & Taichi, I’m left with one question: Where the fuck was this guy for the past 5 years? He’s got this awesome theme song and his offense looks a million times better than any match I can recall in WWE. I’ve never been down on the guy, but this s the first time I’ve been actively excited to see him wrestle. The match with Ishii on Friday and future match with Naito are definitely contenders for some of the best matches of this year.

lol I had to google what was going on in G1 to see if this meant KENTA or Moxley

How's it even possible to botch taking a Stunner?

WTF Shane?
Like father, like son. Vince always half-botched taking the Stunner whenever Austin hit it.
Eh...my take on AEW: They're forcing The Elite and their shit jokes (The Librarians) on the fans. Young Bucks win every match. Page wins every match. Omega lost only once to Jericho. A Rhodes brother always seems to lose in order to draw the sympathy card. Brandi is playing the Stephanie McMahon role with the women's division.

The wrestling is good, but the outcomes are getting predictable.
To be fair, The Elite are mostly the biggest stars they've got outside of Jericho and Moxley. Going into this, I think it would be silly to expect them to not build around The Bucks, Kenny, and Cody (though Cody seems less protected than the others). It's hard to comment on how they're using Brandi because they haven't really done much with her but I did hate how she had that great babyface video package on Fight for the Fallen only to then be a generic heel. Page is the one, to me, that sticks out the most of the guys they're protecting because he's not at the level of the others, I don't see him getting to that level in a year, and (much like him getting a slot in the G1) it feels like he's only got his position because he's buddies with the rest.

All that said, I am actually with you on at least the Bucks needing to lose to someone. They can't keep wrestling the Lucha Bros forever and AEW needs other teams to look like threats. Hopefully, it won't be the Best Friends.

The Brandi Rhodes video package worked for me because it came off as her feigning self-doubt because she knows she has an insurance policy in Awesome Kong. Once Kong arrives, the whole thing comes across as insincere and heelish.

If they want a team that looks like a threat, they should reach out to MLW some more and bring in the Dynasty. They already have MJF, but the other two guys, and even MJF's valet, have quite a lot of promise themselves.

Here's Hammerstone:

And here's Holliday:

I actually do follow MLW because it's an easy show to watch and follow. Not as high on Holliday (he's fine but not really a stand out to me), but I like Alexander Hammerstone. The real "get" to me on the MLW side would be Brian Pillman Jr. if they want a young, fresh star that hasn't been in a major promotion.
