General Wrestling Discussion

Like back in the 90's.......
Ironically when I was trying to sleep the other night, to fall asleep I was trying to think of the worst possible angle that WWE or WCW did during the Monday Night Wars.

The contenders I came up with were:
Beaver Cleavage
Chaz beating his girlfriend
Terri Runnels faking pregnancy and miscarriage
Val Venis / Kaientai thing
Mae Young pregnancy
Goldberg not following the script
Arquette becoming champ
Russo becoming champ
Viagra on a pole match
Judy Bagwell on a pole match

I didn't watch most of 2000 and 2001 WCW but I am sure that I am missing a ton there. Also, for as good as Attitude Era WWF was, there was a lot of shit there, too, so I am sure that I am missing a lot there too.

Would these also count too?

Rock & Sock Connection/Val Venis and Davey Boy Smith Dog Poo Match
Rock & Billy Gunn Kiss My Ass Match (?)
Ric Flair & Dusty Rhodes Kiss My "Ass" Match

I will never take Sami seriously after someone in this thread described his theme as the soundtrack to an autistic kid's mind. :story:

> despite what you think of the man

MICHAEL STOP BURYING SAMI YOU FUCKING NERD!
I can't Sami seriously because he looks identical to the homeless bum who is always outside my local shopping center trying to grift "a couple of bucks for petrol."
Can someone explain the appeal of Joey Janela to me? I remember him getting a lot off buzz from forum heads talking about how great it was to finally see him on AEW and I just saw him as generic indie shlub No. 363031
He had a hot girlfriend at one point, that is it.
Young Bucks matches feel like they exist only to get the Bucks and their stuff over. Same shite for 15 years.
The Young Bucks have always felt like a cover band tag-team. They give you all the classic hits but you never get anything original.

He was with Penelope Ford at one point and he's with Megan Bayne now. There was someone else in between as well that was way out of his league that I can't remember.

He's one of those guys who you see with an absolute smoke show of a woman and think "Really? That guy?" and just shrug your shoulders.

Both companies used real life alcoholism for storylines. WWF did it with Hawk and WCW with Scott Hall. Another real one is that useless asshole Ed Ferrara mocking of Jim Ross with the Oklahoma character. They're not the worst or most damaging to the business, but the most exploitative. At least with everything you listed it was within the confines of people making things up. But here's more I can remember:
Brawl for All
Kennel from Hell match
Ric Flair's fake heart attack
Ric Flair is murdered and buried in the desert, only to show up just fine a few months later
Fingerpoke of Doom
Bash at the Beach 2000 angle with Russo and Hogan
Vince making Trish bark like a dog

"Who ran over Stone Cold?" I always found to be a underrated bad angle. They spend almost a year building this angle up, only for it to result in a Rikishi heel turn that noone wanted and Triple H being the mastermind all along.

The headscratcher of the attitude era for me was when WCW brought in Bam Bam Bigelow and off the bat was feuding with then champion Goldberg im like really this fat ass who hasn't been taken seriously since 89' comes in like he's a legit contender? Yeah he was tearing it up in ECW but so what?

Yeah, that one was horribly botched by WWF. Rikishi as a main eventer was pretty stupid and the payoff was non-existent and did nothing but really hurt Rikishi

The Rock making fun of it after the fact was great though. Might have buried Kish, but the shelf life of a morbidly obese samoan dancer that sexually assaults people with his cavernous arse is not long.

Of the entire roster of that era, why they chose Rikishi to be in the main event is beyond me. They already had Rock, HHH, Angle, Austin and Undertaker, they didn't need to add Rikishi's fat ass to it. Could've easily just had the driver just be a DX lackey like X-Pac or even HHH himself

Here's the interesting thing though: You can remember them.

They were bold, some were absolutely dogshit, but they were memorable car crashes.

I'd take the high highs and low lows over the current sanitised wrestling product of today where every single fucking angle is "I don't like you, I will fight you for the next three PPVs and nothing will come of it"
