General Wrestling Discussion

RIP and all that but lets not forget that the dude was literal dogshit for 90% of his run, went on rambling promos that went fucking nowhere, had to keep reinventing himself every few months because none of his gimmicks actually worked, made everyone he wrestled look absolutely horrible etc. This is the guy who AEW famously didn't even try to pick up when he was a free agent and the guy who had such a spectacularly shit match with LA Knight that LA Knight ended up getting unironically popular.
see thats the thing. bray did all of these things in wwe. its very possible his entire issue was wwe booking and how they run things. bray was not the first person with a gimmick like his in wwe and they all seem to encounter the same issues. the unfortunate thing is that we will never know now if it was wwe at fault or bray himself or a mix of both.

but either way rather you like him or not you have to admit bray brought a creativity to wrestling that not many others bother to do. its also pretty impressive he was able to come back from being husky harris.

I see nothing wrong with this post and agree with it 90%. LA Knight was already popular. Bray would have been better in creative and as a booker than a wrestler. Maybe keep him around for vignettes and as a manager. He really had no business in the ring.

Bray's gimmick as the cult leader (Vinny Marseglia, aka Vincent) has worked out well in ROH and the spokey gimmick has worked out well for Aleister Black. However these people doing these gimmicks are better wrestlers.

Tribute show for both Bray AND the Funk man.

Yeah, alright Gaytch. I will watch your show tonight, but I swear if all you do for Terry is show clips of him working the Chainsaw Charley gimmick this is the last time I will fall for it.
Better do an empty arena match and have some wrestler call another "coward" and complain about their eye
Oh and I forgot, they also have to yell out "yellow belly pig!" and "pig" continuously.

I see that @CyrusHowler never watched the Funk vs Jerry Lawler empty arena match. The first of it's kind and still by far the best. Those two had one the greatest feuds in wrestling. Though that's probably before his time.
It is before my time. I’ve only been watching wrestling since 2019 so I have a lot of catching up to do, I’ve done pretty well so far I think.

It's a good match for what it is. I was to young to know about it until the mid 80's when I heard about it up here and no one who had television rights would try something like it, even Stu. Youtube has a grainy as fuck version of the match and a newer cleaner version. There's just enough blood at the end and just enough chaos to make the fight look like, unlike what AEW has done with empty arena matches. Stadium Stampede is closer to Funk/ Lawler match. Just fun chaos. Funks insults towards Lawler coming out to the ring in full get up was great, but like come one. You're still both in your wrestling tights. No one there, just fight in your every day clothes.

I'll see if I can find and link the clean version.
I hope someone cleans it up one day and upscales it. Audio is better in this version.

ROH has become Dark 2.0 and Collision has now become Dynamite 2.0. Great.

Edit: Wait, I'll take the Dynamite 2.0 comment back. Collision has become Rampage 2.0. Only difference is Collision runs 2 hours.

Edit 2:
+ Jungle Boy showing pictures him having good times with the title belt bc it was actually funny
+ the evil 10 video package bc that was Lucha Underground tier stuff
+ Samoa Joe saying "So the match is officially over, right?" and storming in the ring to beat up Punk

--- everything else
- Best Friends vs jobbers with contracts
- Big Bill vs literally jobber
- Dark Order vs jobbers with contracts
- Keith Lee vs literally jobber
- Willow vs jobber with contract that made Willow look so bad

The main event was a 8 man tag team and got called "Collision All Star match". With Hook. Hook was for the 1st time on Collision lol
Where went the Gunns and Juice? Why where they not ringside? Where went White for the post-match brawl? Or Luchasaurus and Christian? Why didn't they beat up Darby?
20 min for the main event match and it was 10 min Punk getting beat up, then 5 min Hook, then 30 seconds chaos before Punk got the win bc of course he has to get the win. Great idea to have the one guy from the face-team being in the ring for the most time who get's fucking booed and insulted by half of the crowd while the other half gave no shit. Really good call.

Punk needs to retire. His in-ring work gets worse from week to week. He looked so bad vs Swerve in the first minutes of the match. Do a title unification match, let him lose and let him go.

That Collision was even worse than a Rampage episode.

Interesting to see Punk and the Bucks in the same arena. Though it explains why Bucks were on first so they can get the fuck out of the arena before Collision was taped. This show was just a bunch of matches. No story telling like Dynamite, mediocre wrestling.
- Willow vs jobber with contract that made Willow look so bad
Robyn has picked up more wins in ROH than her sister, and as a tag team they won one so far there, they've also have had a few more wins on the indies as of late. They're not quite jobbers anymore, but they're close.

Keith Lee needed a squash match for his debut match on Collision, and that's the only squash match they should have had. Bill shouldn't have had one.

Best Friends didn't have a match.
Action Andretti & Darius Martin aren't jobber but lowest of the tag teams. Darius and Dante would be higher on the list. Action is a better singles wrestler.

Best Friends didn't have a match.

Yeah, right. It was OC, Penta and Kingston, not Best Friends. BF showed up for a promo after an ad break.

Still they fought against "jobbers with contracts". Butcher and Blade show up on AEW TV = they lose.
They don't get squashed, they have usually 10-15min matches, they are allowed to have some offense, I guess they get paid more than the actual jobbers (random local indy guys) and in the end they lose.
Someone has a match against Butcher and the Blade? Someone wins, Butcher and Blade lose.

Same for Serpentico, same for Andretti and Darius, Josh Woods, Kip, Tony Neese, QT (well, not now bc he has a Tripple A belt), the whole JAS group besides Jericho and Sammy, Moriarty, now the twins and so many others. All these "contract jobbers" can have wins on ROH as much as they want but as soon as they show up on AEW they eat pins. That's it. That's why ROH is Dark 2.0. With a few storylines.

Big Bill was one of them and soon will be one of them again. Him teaming up with Ricky will lead nowhere for Big Bill. They have no plan for Big Bill. He joined the Firm, then he teamed up with Moriarty and now he is with Ricky. And in a few weeks Ricky will be on his own again.
They have no plan for Keith, for Wardlow, for Dark Order (it's the 3rd time I think since Brodie's death that they did a "WE ARE STILL HERE AND THIS TIME FOR REAL!" promo) and they have no plan for Scorpio.
They have no plan for Hobbs that's why he is still involved in this Q-TV stuff that nobody really likes. And they have no plan for Miro. He is just doing what he did the last time. His current feud with Hobbs will lead nowhere for both of them. And where is Andrade? Where is Rush? How long has evil 10 been off TV now before they used him for a 45 sec video last week? You think the story they started with him and Dralistico now will lead anywhere? They will have a feud with whomever and in the end they will lose the feud and only show up here and there again. I guess both will end up with Rush/Andrade again, they form a trios team, will challenge for the titles, lose and then they will get lost in the shuffle again.
BC Gold has become just another comedy stable plus they have no real plan for them. Besides the two very good matches against FTR, what has Jay White, ex-Bullet Club leader with a dozen title reigns in NJPW, meaningful done in AEW?
Swerve is constantly involved in storylines but in the end of the day he just eats pins. When did he have his last meaningful win? Has he even beaten Darby once since they started feuding?
Brian Cage? If he doesn't squash some actual jobbers on AEW he eats pins. While being ROH trios champ. Speaking of the ROH trios champs. Gates of Agony show up on AEW, they lose.

AEW has a lot of Dolph Zigglers, the roster is too big and they have way to many people that get injured which fucks with storylines.
A lot of AEW guys aren't even Miz'es.

The Christian Cage stuff at the moment is pretty awesome bc Cage is awesome and the MJF/Cole storyline bc it can lead anywhere.

Reading that I can tell you don't watch a lot of AEW.

Finally caught up for the past three weeks of ROH (The crowd is so dead for those)
and watched the Joe/ Stokely vs the Boys match. Could have been funnier. He hasn't really wrestled since 2019 when he had this "match". He's just been getting beaten and warming the ropes in matches in ROH, which is the perfect role to have in AEW.
What a complete waste of time right before their major PPV.
It was taped the same day as Dynamite and I think Rampage and an ROH. I think everyone was spent by then. Good day to get tickets for a show though if you just wanted to watch wrestling and drink some beverages
