I think RIA's massive success with their sporting auction 3 years ago was partly due to him. The one RIA employee even told him he had an impact on prices. I don't know how much he influenced the expensive auctions, though.
 
It's possible they insisted Ian make a video on a gun he wanted to buy, he refused since he has stated before he doesn't publish videos on guns he's interested in, and it escalated from there.

Either that or the coof travel issues made RIA think they don't need him anymore. Who knows. Ian is reserved enough we're probably not going to get a clear answer from him.
 
Either way, I did notice that RIA is putting out their own videos. I don't know if they intended to replace him or are making up for his absence but those ~5k views aren't touching a Forgotten Weapons video.

Doubtful since he's already bid on guns he's made videos on and the reverse in that he sold a rifle he previously bought to do a video on(that proceeded to sell for an absurd amount).

Was it on the same auction, though? I remember a few years ago him mentioning buying a gun he had made a video on, but I thought it was a good deal later, on a subsequent auction. I'm probably misremembering, anyway. As for selling a gun there... sure. I guess his name is now attached to the gun's provenance and enough people cared for that shit to drive up the price. Good way to make money off idiots. Speaking of which, how much did he sell his Maxim for, again?

Ian has been doing videos with James D. Julia/Morphy's for years now, though. Although he did put the video on really interesting machineguns at the early summer Morphy's auction behind a paywall, so most people would miss out on that.

In the end it does explain why Ian has been stretching his content by splitting the Q&As into multiple videos. I'm pretty sure he was only able to start that daily upload schedule because he was working with two auction houses at the time. He's got to be looking at his video buffer and sweating.

Which is why he should fucking slow down a bit. I wanna see Civil War cavalry carbines and oddball automatic weapons, not the latest generic tacticool gun that looks and works the same as all the other ones.
 
In taking a break from laughing at the fatass that is Karl Cucksarda, let's not forget how in his earlier days, the legend that is Paul Harrell did a presentation on drive-bys for our urban brothers.

Not one goddamn plastic black rifle in sight (edit: okay, fine. There's the G11. But it's Kraut Rocket Surgery. We can forgive the polymer in this case). The guy made a channel out of talking about the weird, the rare and the iconic.

It feels like he's featuring more modern shit because that's simply what he's got access to lately. He's already visited a bunch of museums and presumably exhausted his options there, and even for the ones he'd like to visit and film at again there's always a lot of bureaucracy involved. And since his visits to Europe seem to be sponsored (or at least encouraged) by gun manufacturers or people who have contacts in local manufacturers, he's getting a lot of "look at this cool shit we have in our nation!". And the guy is a huge geek, so he'll go all starry-eyed over the chance of handling something he'll never see here in America.

So yeah. Ian already has a huge following. I'm sure he could bring it down to 3 uploads a week and retain all his algorithmic relevance.
