I don't think Gamestop has been doing too great over the past few years, it's becoming increasingly easier to buy new games via electronic purchasing. Plus they're notorious for offering very little for used games and accessories. Also their used game and accessory selection is poor to begin with as they only accept and sell games and consoles from this and last generation.

GameStop became some cocky teenage (though technically not teen-aged) burnout laboring away in the background. They're pretty much the next SEARS.

That doesn't surprise me, I know a Ma & Pa establishment that doesn't mind someone pawning off their Atari VCS!
A far cry from the days when this was the Puerto Rico I liked.
And you know how sad it was when a department store became less about departments and the electronics section simply faded away (at least in my time, along with the in-store restaurant).
Some of us don't want to be shut-ins to the system.

I was thinking of getting a pristine used (word is suspect in context of even 'new' games from Gamestop) PS2 game, it was Grand Theft Auto III. Not a special copy, just near-crisp clean, no signs of wear except for trapped dust in the corner of the cover sleeve.
forty-five bucks? Hell no. I've found crisp second hand copies of games at a local (non-chain) store, for thirty less. I wish Gamestop would not you know tarnish the image of physical media.

That's what big business likes to do. I learned to never go to a GameStop at all simply because I see no need for it when I got a good number of used shops to hunt down first.

You know your video game "specialty" store is shit when I can found both harder-to-find games I was looking for at Target after Gamestop failed to deliver.

Pretty much what Trilby said. The goverment keeps adding taxes to stores, and stores that can't manage simply up and leave. Ironically Puerto Rico has one of the last 3 standing Tiger Directs stores, (The others being in florida). IMO It's just an excuse by Gamestop, they were already doing bad and are trying to cut back on losses. Before you had no choice but to go to a gaming store and buy games, now you can sit at home, digitally buy games for pc,xbox 360/one,playstation3/4,Nintendo 3DS,Playstation Vita, there is no need to go to stores, especially with Amazon as well.

The government can screw things up royally for stores to simply think that way.
Of course none of them probably read it if it's not in Spanish!
That's always going to be the drawback (and bandwidth capping, someone has to make their money).

Really what's hurt stores like Gamestop is that games became too mainstream. Now every hit game and even more niche titles can be found in your one stop shopping stores like Best Buy or Walmart. Unlike niche hobby stores that can carry more eclectic titles, stores like Gamestop have to attempt to dig in and beat the bigger chains, and that just gets harder and harder to happen.

Funny, I thought videogames were always mainstream, at least they seemed like they were when I was an 80's kid and Toys R Us was THE place for them.
