Forgot this game existed, what a throwback and a perfect reply for the barren ambience.Fragile Dreams on Wii was good for this. You may literally be the last man on Earth looking for the last woman on Earth.

That lonely ambience was a big part of old Minecraft’s charm that has been completely lost come the Microsoft era of the game.Minecraft Beta 1.2.02
EDIT: I know that Minecraft is already mentioned but this version specifically has: 0 beds, 0 villagers, very few generated structures
Probably the best to capture that feeling when it comes to zombie games, I remember especially feeling it way back when I first tried during those early Desura days.Zomboid.
Due to its pretty autistically recreated classic zombie movie feel.
Really feels lonely and depressing as fuck when playing alone, sometimes.
Also I know it’s clowned on as peak zoomie bedwetter behavior (and I agree that it’s ridiculous if taken to the extreme), but a lot of old multiplayer games have that “liminal” vibe when exploring the map alone. I’m thinking about some of those ol’ Halo maps like Sandtrap/Sandox
