It's obviously the worst port. The only ones buying it are suckers who have never played CS before.

Late as fuck on this one but Cave Story 3D makes me laugh anyway, so-

Cave Story 3D really is the worst version of the game by far. It was an early game on the 3DS and the very first version of that game you could get on a cartridge, and early runs of the game had a lenticular 3D slipcover. The pop-out effect IRL isn’t actually very good, but that doesn’t matter to collector faggots that romanticize the game:



I was actually surprised it isn’t more valuable now. The slipcover has always commanded a weirdly high price due to it just being a moderately rare piece of official Cave Story merchandise.

The silly thing is, Cave Story was already playable on the 3DS right from launch, due to the DSi version already existing for $10 on the eShop. The 3D version was $40. Four times the price for a worse version. Fantastic.

And then the following year, the 3DS got its own port of Cave Story 2D, which was just the same as the DSi release, but with the 3DS’ resolution and aspect ratio. None of these versions actually added any new levels or bonuses, and they came out in 2010, 2011, and 2012 respectively. They released the same game three years in a row, with the middle one popping out with severe downs syndrome at 400% of the price. Cave Story 3D’s only purpose was to cash in while the 3D gimmick was still novel.

Yet it still carries value because I guess ugly trannies like ugly things, and this is by far the ugliest version of the game. If you really want Cave Story on a cartridge, there’s a Switch version now that’s cheaper than the 3DS one. Or, you know, just play it for free, because it started as a free game, and its for-pay rereleases never actually improved anything.

I originally bought the Steam version because I was naive and thought the money was going to Pixel. Hell, thanks to the shenanigans of the publishers, I wouldn't be surprised if most people didn't know.

@Pissmaster Quoting is broken again (ironic) but Cave story 3d has spiked in price online since people found out an exploit with it that helps 3ds modding. I'm one of the people that actually bought this game when it was available before complaints about it not being pixels and no additional content caused them to actually pull it from shelves. the slip cover Isn't a limited thing from what I know of it and it's literally just a case of "woah 3d!" type stuff. The things got dented with the slightest bump as cardboard does and I don't think everyone kept the cover. Visuals IMO are good but not like modern console good. Speedrunning trannies more than likely are less fans of it and more using it as a status symbol like some do with the MOTHER games.

For those that don't know, the game is pretty much just a ground up redo of the original, in 3d models styled and animated like the original sprites, that plays exactly like the original. Though I find thats really impressive by itself I get how it wasn't everybody's sorta game. The "ugly" kind of comes from the fact it was made for handhelds and it shows. That, and the fact quote for some reason has a realistically detailed face on a body based on his sprite, though you can't see that at all in-game the texture is on the model. These people are more than likely just using this game as the "QuIrKY anD oRiGiNAL/NichE!" kind of cave story speedrun.

The whole Tranny thing is one of these stupid anti-establishment type fads. You know how it is, they think their alternative lifestyle will change the world and all that crap. As with any fad, people start to compete with each other to see who can stand out the most, who's the most dedicated, who can take it to the next level. Plus these kinds of "movements" attract people who want attention. So you naturally end up with some of them going as far as they can with hormone injections, surgery, voice training, whatever they can do to feel superior to everyone else in the group.
