What's really disappointing about Cracked and a lot of other gaming sites as well, is just how uninformed they are. A lot of them just took Zoe's story and ran with it. It shows just how much these "journalists" really have become glorified bloggers, a sticky, corrupt circlejerk that doesn't produce news or even actual content, but only SJW clickbait and facts that everyone already knows. While practical nobodies like InternetAristocrat and CameraLady dig up a massive history of corruption in the indie scene, a lot of the people writing for these sites can't even bring themselves to watch those videos, instead they just follow Zoe's version of the story blindly because hey, that's what people want to hear right?

A lot of people are already talking about how Gaming Journalism has become reduntant, but in all honesty, sites like Cracked and Buzzfeed have probably become redundant as well. Everything on Cracked has just become a less extensive and less consumer-friendly version of content that is already mass-produced by sites like Reddit and 9gag, which is why they have to resort to SJW articles and clickbait.

As long as someone is considered an "Ally" for their purposes in opposing Great Patriarch Satan, they will overlook any issue. Even if that Ally happens to be riding squarely in the saddle of someone who has actively and repeatedly worked against women (see: Anita Sarkeesian working with Devin Faraci). Even if they're someone who's been willing to lie, cheat, steal, and commit felonies.

Zoe Quinn could go out in the street tomorrow, go on a killing spree, and subsequently face a fair trial wherein it was revealed she was financing Al Queda, and she'd still have an army of loyal morons who will scream about how Misogynist it is that she wasn't immediately acquitted.

Cracked's doing this for clickbait. Nothing more.

I guarantee they thought for a while about letting that article go live, and they did it anyway because they want the advertisement dollars. Because of how hot Gamergate is right now. Granted Cracked hasn't really been anything but a clickbait site for a while now. So it's to be expected they'd let trash from Zoe go live on their site to get a couple million hits for their advertisements.

It's also worth noting with Cracked you have to request to post articles on there. Not only that you have to post a thread in their writer only forum about what article you wanna write and one of the staff needs to OK it. Finally it needs to get edited by a bunch of the staff members before it goes live. This was a cold calculated decision for money, not an accident or the idealism of the website.

Cracked has been discarded from normal browsing for several years now, when they started adding poorly-researched bullshit and politics into the mix (like Kotaku before it, I could see the writing on the wall). I mean, I used to like it, as they focused on general comedy (there's nothing comedic about Quinn's rant, at least unironically) and had witty writing that made me smile. "What were the producers thinking? Well, it would be awesome if this ending had been their plan all along and the previous 100 episodes were purely setup, an elaborate prank played by some people who really, really hated children." (describing the last televised episode of Alf), or "The Nick Nolte-mugshot hair, the makeup that looks like it was applied using a series of violent blows to the face, the yellowing teeth, that horrific belt/cummerbund/duct tape contraption around his waist. There is nothing about early Ronald McDonald that doesn't scream, 'Drop the cheeseburger and step away from the playground!'" (describing the early Ronald McDonald).

Alas, those days are now gone...for the articles I did read, I found myself skimming more than anything.

By the way, Cracked is owned by Demand Media, so if you want to boycott them, boycott their sister sites too.

Unfortunately, since Kotaku seems to get regular traffic spikes and drops, they might just dismiss this as normal traffic fluctuations and not a sign that they need to up their standards.

It might catch their attention if it continues to drop, but since the other three seem to have bottomed out I wouldn't get my hopes up.

As for the Cracked article, I'm not surprised at all that she removed any blame whatsoever, including her doxing other innocents, and the fact that she used her "womanhood" to get press. I skimmed, but it seemed to be she took the position of "All this happened to little ol' me" and forgetting everything else that happened.

There wasn't any descending to do for them, they were already there (look up the stories of SJW's doxxing and mass reporting tumblrs and YT accounts from the old SJW thread). They just hadn't played the card yet until now in this particular drama.

As for the whole drama unfolding, I think ultimately what we're seeing here is the festering pit that is SJW's has went so long unchecked (tumblr, Kotaku, comment sections, a bunch of backwater forums and other blogging sites here and there) that it's now boiling over into the mainstream net, and the SJW's are finding out that unlike the sites they originated from, the rest of the internet is not a sympathetic hugbox to their victim complexes and desires for forcing others to conform to their revenge based culture. So they're freaking out while riding on the gaming journalism drama. They wouldn't be an issue if it wasn't for Zoe being one and the small group of SJW's on dev teams and in gaming "journalism" who are blanketing all criticism to the lack of journalistic integrity as misogynist bantering.
