They're trying to character assassinate anyone who dares talk about it. It's a transparent attempt to try and get the other side to stop talking about it either because they're too lazy to debate or aware that they have no legitimate arguments.

It's interesting because only the anti Gamergate side is the one who is pro character assassination and irl harassment. Mundane Matt posted a video where he talked about how he spoke to one of the people on the journalist mailing list. And how he was too afraid to speak out about it, because he was afraid if he did someone would hack his bank account.

Meanwhile the anti Gamergate people are the ones who are trying to get people fired and are digging up doxx to try and bully people into submission simply because you don't agree with their extremist views.

I've fucking hated Kuchera for a while, mostly because he's a smug prick who treats his fucking readerbase with absolute sneering fucking patronization, and has done so for years. This is the same fuck-knuckle who's been proudly screaming the USED GAMES ARE KILLING GAMES DEVELOPMENT canard, the same fucker who's tried to excuse UbiSoft's lack of halfway fucking competent PC porting, and tried to argue that the entire Xbox One DRM bullshit was a good thing. He long ago got himself distanced from more credible sources.

A really interesting bit for Jim Sterling fans is how Jim used to preface disagreements with Kuchera with respectful foreward but in his last disagreement with him (over the Tomb Raider debacle), Jim just dropped all pretext and literally said "Fuck that," when Kuchera argued that we should stop looking at back-alley deals like this one from the eyes of a consumerbase.

But now, his being a fucking obvious schill who treats his customerbase like he doesn't want a fucking career almost seems like the least of it. We know now he's one of the primary culprits in this doxxing bullshit, and is probably criminally liable. Seeing this arrogant piece of fucking filth get his just desserts would be fucking glorious.

It feels like he's trying to be the next Romero, lending this delusional sense of invincibility in his own hubris because of either his position, his connections, or he feels he's won something by getting in a shitflinging argument with the internet, and whether he's THAT disconnected in believing his hipster brigade is going to save him or he, like the rest of this self-parodying Legion of Doom, is making a defiant mental episode to plug holes in their sinking ship by going fist in mouth insane trying to damage control the gluttonous elephant in the room, that EVERYONE else can see clear as day, amounts to a question of which is funnier for you to imagine.

Because they ARE getting angry, they ARE feeling the pressure, and they KNOW that no amount of censorship, ridicule, and arrogance is going to get them out of losing money on clicks, ad revenue, and progressively worse the longer this drags on. Yeah this is pretty much my stance as well. Before people's IRL lives started getting fucked over for speaking up, I thought it was just a hilarious clusterfuck where butthurt nerds were raging against butthurt SJW's, now it's something else entirely. Now it is legitimately a threat to public safety and civility and worst of all it's being lead by an organized group of conspirators. My god, this entire thing is such a brilliant example of the Steisand effect. Every time they try to silence the opposition it only rallies more people against them.

But there's a very good reason they started doxxing people, attacking their personal lives, etc... it's because they're desperate. They are a cornered animal. They KNOW they can't run away anymore, so all they have left to do is fight back, and they are going to fight as dirty as they possibly can because they all know they have nothing left to lose. They've all crossed an event horizon where their careers and credibility are essentially dead in the water. There is no coming back. Even if #GamerGate died tomorrow, there would still be lingering resentment and distrust forever, and NONE of the people involved would ever live it down.

These people KNOW they're on their way out, they're just dead-set on causing as much collateral as possible on their way out. But it's getting to the point where if evidence is ever found of this shit, I would expect they're going to be facing serious federal charges. Blackmail, conspiracy, stalking, harassment, blatant death threats... I don't think the "well it's only online" excuse is going to slide here. And that's saying a lot coming from an established troll who has spent the greater part of two years driving a man insane as a personal hobby.

I can't find the post I wanted to reply to so I'll use this one. I looked up "listen and believe" to see what I can find and it lead me to an unrelated site about child abuse. It got me thinking, we really shouldn't take chances with possible assault victims (even if they're lying) so "listen and believe" doesn't sound like a bad idea if only it were spoken by someone else other than Sarkeesian or SJWs. I don't think they know they're on their way out but rather they're reacting this way because they've never been pushed this hard. The more information that comes out then the more it's constantly floating around and being linked to them. Before you could create a very reasonable post charged with rational thinking in a polite manner and they could just say "I bet you're some white neckbeard in a basement. Your opinion is invalid". It deterred reasonable discussion because for every well-thought out post that took 10-15 minutes to post all it took was "Fuckyou BLOCKED" to end that discussion. Now? People just have to post pictures of conversations, links, videos, any information that sheds doubt on this being an issue about misogyny. Evidence can be saved and sent quicker than it takes the opposing side to block. Imagine how overwhelming that must feel when all your power comes from assassinating the character behind the message. It now takes them more time to try to bend context to refute things then it takes the other side to share the information. So they're snapping. They're going back to what they know best which is to target individuals but they're doing it in such a way that only fuels the gamergate side. For every person harassed there's another example of their attacks saved on the internet, being linked right back to them.

It's really hard to fight information. It's like trying to punch water.

You know looking back I at this whole thing (Hind site being the best lens an all) I would not have taken the Gamer community as one of the most hard fighting anti-censorship communities, and it's starting to pay off because they are fighting back and hitting the censors where it hurts "The Wallet".
The ones who are getting desperate are now getting dirty and using tactics they would decry if and when it's been used agenst them. Doxing can be either really brave (doing it like Wiki leaks on a whole government) or just really vindictive (on under age people, or over personal arguments) and what they have done is the latter, they are losing and starting to lose in real world terms not just emotional booboo's that the main group seems to be really sensitive to.

Now having said all that there is a small core of mostly immature gamers who spout shit on XBL or forums such as "TIT's or GTFO" or "Bitch make me a sandwich" and the thing is there sadly probably always will be, my Sister got told this when she tried playing Nazi Zombies on COD 5 and she was prity crappy at playing it was a curiosity thing for her, however she laughed it up because she is threatened on the daily basis in her job by people who really will carry out the threats given half the chance (She is a Police officer).

What the SJW indy crowd need to do is just like my sister, grow a thick skin to the immature crap that's said. And get on with the real matter at the hand in the community and putting out quality games and learning one simple fact you are never going to make everyone happy all the time AND not all criticism is bad. Infact a portion of it is good, and given time you can filter what is bad an what is good criticism just fucking learn just because you have a idea for a game not every one will share the same idea or thing it's awesome.

Ok, I am going to sound like a retard here but I am really straddling the fence on this whole thing. What is at stake here? Who is winning and who is losing?

I am probably going to get some hate for this but I consider myself a feminist but I am not in the same camp as these extremists are. I don't do extremism, I've been there before and I've learned my lesson in that it's always good to get a story from all sides not just one or the other. Should women have better representation in videos games? Yes, but to try and bludgeon it into a culture that isn't ready or willing just yet to change is disastrous. Whatever changes need to be done will happen on its own as society changes and more people would be willing to make those changes if it comes from a rational viewpoint.

To me, this whole situation seems to have escalated to mudslinging on a level that would make politicians jealous and I am not sure what the outcome is going to be and I really don't have it to try to speculate on what that outcome is.

I think that everyone should have the freedom to have their opinions about something but to harass and try to shut down people for having opinions is wrong.

If #GamerGate 'loses', then the idea is that these guys are allowed to shitpost about everyone and everything freely and no longer have to pay respect to males. Game 'journalists' and game developers can sleep and promote each others' work without disclosure, and reviews continue being less about games being good and more about games promoting social causes and justice.

If #GamerGate wins, these guys stop their smear campaign and doxxing, newspapers stop this misogyny rant that increases stigma among gamers, the movement is found to be valid, and things such as the IGF stop being manipulated and instead become fairer, both in judging [seriously one game didn't even get all judges to play it] and results [judges could vote for games they weren't assigned? WTH].

I mean, maybe that's not what'll happen, but this is what I thought the cause was for. Am I too wrong?

But that's the crazy part; real activists who are actually pushing for social justice, for feminine equality, and are pushing back whatever shreds of misogyny, REAL misogyny, remain in our society HAVE the kind of thick skin that your sister sounds like she has. That being said, the biggest mistake one can make in this whole debacle is to equate what we call a 'social justice warrior'' on a level that is basically standard to the notion of an actual social activist. The major difference is that SJWs don't act the way they do to get anything done or to change anything about society in a way that is meaningful; they do it almost purely out of mental masturbation, and it's why any conversation you'll ever go into with one or more of them becomes such an inconceivable circlejerk of buzzwords, prop speech, and passive aggressive smuggery. It's attention seeking and narcissism, and they can't get off their own sense of superiority in any environment that isn't immediately giving them a target to paint and bitch at; they wouldn't have justification for the shit that comes out their mouthes half the time otherwise.

My major sperging aside, the simplest way to put this is that 'growing a thicker skin' would be very unprofitable to them in a long term.
