Regarding this whole thing about the harrassment and all... I don't defend it, but I get annoyed at the accusations that it has to be from #GamerGate and not by anyone else. The fact is, people like Anita Sarkeesian already had haters long before #GamerGate, it didn't take the movement for people to yell at her even before then. Of course people like Leigh Alexander and Brianna Wu are drawing more attention now because of the controversy, but what I don't like is how it's become so easy to assume everyone from #GamerGate is in on it.
I'm a supporter, but I'm not part of any social media or *chan or whatever. How am I supposed to help with the trolling if I don't know where it's happening? And incidents like Polytron's hacking led to "uh, what?" reactions as well. It jusst seems to me like most of #GamerGate is not interested in hacking, but in fighting fair, if only to spite the opposition who insists they are fighting dirty.
I don't believe every harrassing or death threat is false by default, but I do give a foot to skepticism as well. When Brianna Wu posts that she's being threatened before the threats happen, it's weird and I'm not going to believe in it. I admit that there's a chance Milo bought a syringe and acted like he was attacked, but since nobody can bring evidence in favor of that view, why should I not assume he's saying the truth?
This is just my view.
