Brazilbros, has Ney actually been this useless during his time back in Brazil?
From what my Brazilian coworker tells me, nigga isn't even playing for the main Santos team. In his words "he partied too much and wasted his talent".

I was genuinely surprised he was even on the substitutions list for the Scotland match - homie's basically at this World Cup for name recognition

I think our resident Braaaseeeeww bros said as much. He's basically there for moral support far as I can tell.

He isn't even close to what he was and Santos being dogshit doesn't help. Imagine Neymar doing a great play only for it to be wasted by his teammates. Santos almost got relegated last year.

He isn't close to what Messi or CR7 are to their national teams. Although the pressure on Brazil national team is leagues above anyone on Argentina and Portugal.

Also today on Brazil vs Scotland game another record was broken on YouTube: now the most viewed live streaming sports match had 18.6 million connected devices. The previous record was Brazil vs Haiti with 16.1 million.

That means that almost 10% of the entire Brazilian population was watching it on youtube.

That may seem not very much but the same match was broadcasted in other 4 TV channels, including the biggest TV channel in the country. The fact is that YouTube is the only concrete way to record the viewer numbers unlike TV. But the world cup numbers are just amazing in Brazil even with a shit team

It took like 50 minutes but Mexico managed to score two goals against Czechia. Looks like they will get the first perfect group stage in their history and their path seems accessible enough (they will be going against the best 3rd place) that only getting matched with a semi-competent team could threaten their dream of quarter-finals.

I didn't really realize how much Brazilians care about footy until two different Brazilians I know (semi-jokingly) mentioned they still have trauma from the 7-1 loss.

Though, to be fair, sometimes I watch the highlights from that match to inject pure schadenfreude into my veins.

El Vasco Aguirre is one of the worst tactical managers who has done jack shit.
Just so everyone else can laugh with the rest of us.

Aguirre is best known for being the generic manager Mexico calls every time they suck (2001, 2009 and 2024). In 2009, he had the brilliant idea of kicking a Panamanian player in the dying minutes of a Gold Cup match. He lost his job the second time because he decided to align several players past their primes against Argentina in 2010. His Real Zaragoza and Levante were accused of fixing a match to avoid relegation in 2010. This latter event ended up costing him his gig as Japan's manager in 2014. He is known for loving technically limited players to the point some of Mexico's worst line-ups and call-ups for the World Cup are his.

My trauma was 2006 against France that team was amazing and I didn't watch a single brazil game until the 7-1 (I wasn't even going to watch it, but friends called me over)

Has there been a player that had a more precipitous falloff than Neymar? He turned 30 and completely lost his ability to play soccer. Must have been nice getting paid $300 million by Qatar for absolutely nothing.
