I know its likely boomer lore, but I love this quote that's been attributed to someone in the war cabinet: "If Spanish blood is dominant in the Argentinians, then we're looking at a tough fight. But if it's the Italian blood, it'll be over in a few hours."

It's hilarious seeing the South Americans seethe about Spain winning. They're are crying "colonizers!"

Your entire culture is shit the Spanish brought with them. You would still be living in huts and skinning virgins if they hadn't showed up. Everyone wants so badly to be part of the oppressed class.

I haven't seen much of it, although my latin meme feed is mostly argie. Sounds like either no sabo kids, or commie tards, same difference really.
In Argentina, from what I see everyone is worrying about tomorrow and celebrating France is out, that nog Mbappe really earned everyones hate, and he showed why again today.

While the memes are hilarious, a few fun things to note.

1. France had no plan B this entire World Cup. Spain managed to shut down their attacking players and France's response was to just get the ball to those players quicker, whether it be from quicker passes or more direct play. Neither of which helped since they don't necessarily have patterns of play
2. A big thing that I have tended to notice, not just of the French national team, but Ligue 1 itself, is that the french play with very little midfield. The ball is played around center backs, pinged out to wingers, or quickly given to the forwards/played in behind. Spain, on the other hand, play combinations through the midfield and try to establish possession and dominance through the center of the pitch. It really showed today when Spain could play the ball through the midfield and France didn't have much ability to stop it. Prior French teams could counter this through Makélélé or more recently, Ngolo Kante. But Tchouameni, Rabiot, and Kone simply do not match the defensive ability that prime Makélélé or Kante brought to the French team and they can be exposed from solid midfield play

It breaks my heart knowing that this image is outdated now.

We do have a black guy but right now he's an under-17 national team player. Kiki Ramos, a refugee from Haiti.
Who knows what he'll turn into though, many U17 players disappear from the national team radar, some don't even become professional players.

Just realized that this post didn't send for some reason. It was meant for days ago. Huh.

Anyways, for anyone looking for scoops on Argentina: the team has looked weak at numerous points during the recent matches because there's a lot of fatigue on the team, more noticeable on the midfield when they have to defend. More details here in this tweet that got attention.

Last night I rewatched the entire Argentina - Switzerland match again (yeah, I'm a sicko) and I have some bad news for you guys:

Enzo Fernandez and Alexis Mac Allister are burned out. They played 54 and 55 games in this 2025-26 season. De Paul and Paredes played 15 and 21, and they were the best during the match because of that—because they had less accumulated fatigue.

De Paul was the one who pressed the most during the first half, then he slacked off in build-up play but he was the one running the most out of all the midfielders.

The first half had a solid midfield, but starting from the 50th minute it was clear as day that Argentina was gassed and sitting back, and by gassed I don't mean they were hanging their tongues out, but that they dropped 2 or 3 gears, they were jogging because they couldn't sustain the high intensity from the Swiss, they were moving the ball faster than our guys could run.

That's why I spent the whole match cursing and yelling for subs, he only made changes way after Switzerland tied it up, too late, at the 78th minute with Gonzalez, and at the 85th he threw in 2 more, Lautaro and Montiel.

We only went into extra time with 3 subs between 15 and 10 minutes before, totally inexplicable how late he made the changes.

And overall, this team didn't have a single idea until Julian's goal, all side-to-side passes, literally they were just waiting for Messi to save us because every ball went to him and Messi was burned out too.

Against England, the way I see it, there has to be 1 or 2 changes, out with Mac Allister and I put Barco on the left, Enzo and Paredes as double pivot but Enzo pushed up higher and De Paul on the right, in the second half out with De Paul and in with Simeone, to keep the defensive intensity and hit on the counter.

That's our only shot, bring the intensity, with Julian running like a madman too and let Messi do his magic with those through balls like the one he put to that donkey Molina who didn't play it into Julian and then Switzerland equalized. That's the key for me. Don't delay the changes either.
For me, De Paul is a weak link. The Swiss goal was mainly on him, and in general, he has been deservedly subbed out lately. Other notes:
-Dibu Martinez...not good enough in this cup so far. Feels like if the opponent can shoot on target, there are good odds he won't save the shot.
-England have a mess on their right side of the defense, iirc. But you could say the same about Argentina. Molina gets subbed out because of the same issue others have. Fitness. Exhaustion. Montiel takes his place when it's time.
This is a substitution that happened in three matches in a row, and has led to jokes on twitter.

Can't forget about the seemingly mandatory Nico Gonzalez substitution.
If there was ever a time for England to win vs. Argentina, it's here.
But there's the Messi factor, the counter attacking still being solid, Argentina's crosses on the attack can be dangerous (defending crosses is another story, tho). It may just end up coming down to who blinks first like Spain vs. France.
