Furries are likely to be dumber because the population of furries has a higher incidence of ADHD, social disorders, and autism spectrum disorder than the general population. There's a reason why the majority of furries have something wrong with them socially. They're social outcasts and are less likely to be able to function in society. Shunned as weirdos who can't interact normally with normal humans. It's also why they have weird ass fetishes. Normal people don't get horny to the sight of an animal's head on a human body. Furries do.

These freaks have been around for a while sure but saying "a long time" gives them an undeserved amount of legitimacy from when they were some degenerate weirdos in a few corner, plus they have this nasty habit of retroactively claiming everything with funny/cartoon animals is furry.
I feel really bad for kids these days, everything that's child-orientated has been hijacked by degenerates and manchildren. At least back in the early days you had to take a wrong turn or actively to find this shit, like page 30 of google image search. Rule 34, high quality rule 34, being beamed directly into kids' skulls via social media....the sheer amount of people with a furry/tranny anime profile picture....
And normalfags have a hand in this as well because the last 10 or so years have proved that no matter how retarded something is or how degenerate it is or how contrary to their tastes it is, if it trending for any reason they will bandwagon on it or exploit it. The amount of "back of the internet" shit that keeps being dregded up by youtubers is concerning.
Banning it would be stupid and give them legitimacy, that dumb picture of that fox crying with a Ghandi quote behind him comes to mind. I don't think you can doing anything besides waiting for a cultural collapse or something.

It’s fair to say there’s more social issues at play and that’s why a lot of people gravitate towards furry communities. If you have social issues you’re probably going to be drawn to groups that are more accepting and less judgemental. It’s a self reinforcing loop.
At the end of the day even the most socially retarded want to belong and if they can find a small group where it’s possible? They’ll do so.
Being bad socially doesn’t necessarily make someone dumb though, it just makes them a victim of modern parenting.

There is an old saying that is very true, "furries built the internet". Furries started in the 80's possibly earlier in the 70's and they generally were outcasts, nerds, and geeks; possibly phreaks and other technology breakers.

furries have been a thing since the 70's, though you're not wrong in that most of the way they are now is early 00's. I mean some of those faggots type like they're perpetually stuck in a 2004 Furcadia chatroom.
