Imagine a few electrons rotating around a simple atom. Like a charges rotating around a point. If the axis of rotation for one atom's electrons is aligned with the axis of rotation for another atom's electrons, then either the two groups of charges will be moving in the same direction or in opposite directions.

Electrons have negative charges and thus repel each other. If the electrons on both atoms are moving in the same direction then they will repel each other some amount.
If they are moving in opposite directions, though, relativity will cause the charges on each atom to "experience" the other atom's charges as closer together. This means the atoms will repel some greater amount.

The way a magnet is made is by using a substance where all of its electron orbitals can align freely and then locking the orbitals in place somehow. Fridges have the former, and permanent magnets have the latter. When a permanent magnet is stuck to a fridge, the fridge wall's orbitals in that spot align and the magnet sticks, but the alignment is lost if the magnet is removed.

Get a bunch of high power magnets, copper wire, and a source for both fuel and mechanical power and you can get electricity. That's if you have a manual for schematic for building a generator and it's subcomponents, otherwise you're going to fuck it up.
