Franchises you wish would just DIE and GO AWAY - And ones you don't care about.

In order of which I want to see die most:

Simpsons, Family Guy, Capeshit media (especially the MCU), Star Wars, Ghostbusters, Harry Potter, CoD, Final Fantasy, Game of Thrones, Warcraft, Dragon Ball, Pokemon, CalArts tumblr cartoons, Overwatch, Fortnite, SNL, Fire Emblem and maybe Star Trek, One Piece, and Dr. Who, along with pretty much everything else that's been said in this thread. And note that I only legitimately hate about 7 of these, the rest I just wanna see die because I can't stand to see them be milked to death to the point where there's now more bad content than good content.

And I'm not sure if this counts but I hope EA will someday go away and not be replaced with anything worse, but that's too optimistic.

Finally, stop it with the remakes and reboots already and please don't bring back King of the Hill from its peaceful rest.

Última edición:
Kamen Rider and Super Sentai. Japan will keep producing those shows until the heat death of the universe.

When you literally create a spinoff series making fun of autistic adult fans of the show and it's super popular then you may want to just go ahead and shut the whole thing down.

Anything Disney in the last years, too. Ralph 2 the hour-long commercial, the Princesses, the remakes, Star Wars...I know Disney's always been predictable and safe, but maybe my nostalgia is talking and the new films just bother me. Meh, time to grow up.

Rick and Morty, if only because Bojack is better. That and Rick and Morty just attracts pretentious fucks.

Also, not franchises but I'm tired of seeing Benedict Cumberbatch everywhere.

Anything touched by JK Rowling. Harry Potter ended already, it feels like she's just desperate to be relevant.

Some more franchises I feel should die:

- Sonic needs to die because it doesn't have it's own identity and each game is too different from each other. Doesn't help the best game in the series as of late was from people not in the main team that was a homage to the 90s games

- Doctor Who because it just feels very pandering and I feel they are stretching the plots very thinly to be honest.

- Harry Potter because the prequels are entirely unnecessary and no one asked for them. At least with the SW prequels they went with an origin story that covered mysteries the fandom was speculating like what the clone wars was and made the Star Wars world more exciting.

- Disney Live Action remakes because they are very disrespectful to the art of animation, and spit in the face of hardworking animators just for the sake of cashing in on cheap nostalgia.

On the one hand I'm kind of glad plastic Dune shit isn't being shilled by "lol I'm such a nerd!" nerd culture types. But the Herbert estate is more focused on propping up Brian's sham of a career than preserving Frank's work or promoting its themes.

It's kind of nice that a lot of SF masterworks haven't been co-opted by nerd culture since there's no merch to hawk.
I noticed that the new thing in Hollywood seems to be SF movies based on adaptations of older stories without any thanks to the original authors, which initially seemed like shit, but maybe it's better if nu-male media is contained in its own condom with zero contact with original works. At least it firewalls the lowest effort douchebags.

There goes Rayman I guess...

Sadly, it looks like the Rayman series has been dead for quite some time. Which is a shame, considering the potential the original plans for Raving Rabbids had, as well as the scrapped Rayman game by Phoenix Studio. Series creator Michel Ancel did say back in October 2017 that he would like to make a Rayman 4, however even if he tried, Ubisoft would no doubt fuck it up.

What I wouldn't give for another 3D platformer along the lines of Rayman 2...

The Rabbids were a mistake...

The MCU. I'm not so much hating on or crazy tired of it as I think Endgame would be an appropriate place to end it and either start something new or focus on something else for a while, like the X-Men.

As for shit that's already overstayed its welcome? Harry Potter definitely. I'd also like to see Disney take Star Wars out behind the shed with a loaded shotgun and put that franchise out of its misery.

Pop culture is so stagnant now that this thread's last post was nearly three years ago and everything said so far is just as relevant today as it was back then

Personally, most shows from Nickelodeon and Cartoon Network should remain dead. While there are evergreens that can work in multiple different eras such as Ben 10, The Powerpuff Girls, or SpongeBob. And some franchises may still have a story to tell, see Avatar, I just find a lot of the revivals unnecessary. Adventure Time and Invader Zim were both favorites of mine, but after a while, I accepted their end and really only wanted to ever see them in games or anniversary material. When they got continuations, I could not care less. The continuations were not bad, but I ask why they really needed to happen to begin with.

While I can understand why some fans are mad at Cartoon Network for not doing the KND or Billy and Mandy revival, I honestly think it was for the best that they moved on.

Goonies: I love the original movie however it never cried out for a follow-up but years after trying WB have got their wish with a TV show planned for Disney+ of all places rather than their own HBO Max, that should say something about the quality. Many if not most movies are better off being just a one-off thing and Goonies is one of them.

Ace Venture: Plans for a 3rd one are moving ahead and only because Coming 2 American despite being shit did really well streaming wise. I really don't see the need for a 60-year-old Jim Carrey to revisit this role, in fact that's kind of sad nor do I see anything worthwhile doing with the character. Only funny thing that could from the movie is the rage some troons have for the first one,

Ant-Man: The first movie was passable but the second was just awful and with the third one they couldn't even be assed to replace the director Peyton Reed who wasn't working out at all with some fresh blood to try and save this series. While all the MCU needs a kick up the ass to improve this is especially true with this series, i mean it's telling how much more people liked Ant Man in say Endgame rather than Ant Man and the Wasp.

Chicken Run: The first is a great movie but if there was ever a need for a follow up which I don't think there was that time passed long ago. I understand Aardman original movies have mostly been duds at the box office but they are other reasons for that rather not based on know ip, Early Man was a movie with some ugly character design about football/soccer something that would never play well for American audiences.

The Expendables: Outside the novelty of the cast these movies have always been on the weaker side, with the 4th one they can't even get a cast of note like in the past. Also, have more movies past the 4th one plan and an all-female spin-off. If the cast wants to make more action movies with each other still then make a new movie not tied to this ip and try to do something fun.

Shrek: Plans for a reboot of that and Puss in Boots, no idea if that means a remake or what but the founders of illumination are involved. It was a series that outstayed its welcome the first time with most people now choosing to forget anything past the first two movies so not sure how a reboot will rekindle any love the public had for the ip.

47 Ronin: This movie was awful and one of the biggest box office bombs of all time so why on earth is getting a new movie. So yeah Universal has made a female-driven spin-off for what seems to be Netflix for some reason rather than their own streaming service, Does Netflix just like putting out shit movies or something because I can't think of any other reason they would want this.

Batman spin-offs: The new Batman movie isn't even out but HBO Max has two spins of planned, then you got the awful Batwoman show and from the creators of that you are getting a Gotham Knights show. HBO Max is getting a Batgirl movie and animation wise both Robin and Catwoman are getting animated movies next year. I'm sure there are more spin-offs, I get capeshit is popular now but could they least do other characters that aren't spin-offs to Batman.

Saw: They tried two times to bring it back and now trying a 3rd time with an 80+ Tobin Bell back as Jigsaw somehow back from the dead. The series killed the villain back in part 3 and have been trying to keep making movies since then with less good reasons each time. They should just move on and try to make a new horror series.

Seth Rogen: Not a franchise but rather a person, he is 40 and still doing the same shit as when he was in his 20s. Saying swear words or smoking weed isn't funny on its own, it needs something else in order to be funny and really needs to be done by something younger. He is someone who has failed to adapt his comedy to his age or the times which is funny with how woke he tries to be.

National Treasure: Was always Disney trying to get that Indiana Jones market while that series wasn't putting out movies, now that Disney owns Indiana Jones I don't see the point of making a TV show of it especially when Nick Cage won't be in it.

Spider-man spin-offs: Sony keeps trying their hands at making a shit ton of Spiderman spins off some like Spiderverse and Venom I get, but Jackpot or Madam Web I really don't get it unless they want the ip to die.

Halloween: I've enjoyed many of them but what else can you do with it I really don't know. I'm happy to watch Halloween Ends but after that, the series needs to also end.

The Conjuring: The Conjuring 1 and 2 are pretty good horror movies but the 3rd one and the spins off haven't been good at all. Annabelle wasn't scary the first time yet she got three solo movies for reason I don't understand, pro tip if you are trying to make a doll look scary don't try to make it look scary because it has the opposite effect.

Aladdin: Made a shitty remake, plan a follow up to the shitty remake but not only that you give a spin-off to the worst character in that movie Prince Anders who was legit painful to watch. I mean all the Disney live-action remakes are awful and soulless but needed to give this one its own special place due to the Disney+ spin-off.

Texas Chainsaw Massacre: It had two good movies, one a horror masterpiece and the other great over the top 80s horror-comedy. Even among long-running horror series TCM hits to miss ratio is very poor yet they keep trying to bring it back with only the remake being anything you could call an outright hit and that was nearly 20 years ago.
