Lap of the Tuscany track on board the safety car. Looks some good chicanes and those looong hairpin bends (turns 12 and 15 on the map below) are going to destroy the front tyres. Long run to a slow turn 1 and then a tight chicane should make for a good start to the race too.

Just watching FP2 now. Great track, hope it allows for a great race.

I read last nite Perez is already rumoured to replace Kimi who will be retiring. Regardless, he is not going to be getting many top 10s next year. I cant see him replacing Latifi as he has the family money backing him I believe and I am sure, just like Stroll, pops will pay any price for his kid to drive an F1 car.
 
Watched FP2 too, that pit entry and exit look like they are asking for incidents. How often do we see coming togethers like that in practice and they weren't even pushing for anything in particular. Slowing down to dive into the pits is likely to end with someone up your ass and if you don't slow first it's going to be tight to get the speed down before the pit speed limit.

It's going to be good watching where drivers decide makes a good overtaking spot or not and the lack of data on long runs except for what they get in practice (ie no previous year's data) should make for some supprises for tacticians.
 
So, I just read a translation of an article about the Vettel-RP deal. This was mentioned:

"Racing Point - as F1-Insider.com learned - was apparently helped by a clause in Perez's contract. According to it, Team Perez could quit without severance pay if the Mexican was behind his teammate Lance Stroll in the World Championship after the GP Italy."

I really hope this track will chew up tyres like it was made of sandpaper, would make for a neat race.
Verstappen said his tyres were done after FP2, I have no clue how many laps he did, but it can't have been many.

And then there's also another little thing... Ferrari donned their celebratory paintjob for the 1000th race, so they look pretty rad, but holy fuck. Vettel and Leclerc spin when trying to accelerate our of a turn. I feel this race is not going to be nice to them. I still have a modicum of respect left for that team, so I do feel bad. It's such a great occassion, their 1000th race, and what can they look forward to? Maybe, hopefully both cars get a few points. If this ends with both cars retiring, it'll be absolutely brutal.

That's a miserable way to treat a driver you've had in your team for 7 years.

It's almost like that meme:

Perez probably signed that thinking "yeah no chance".

In other (Perez related) news the stewards have handed him a 1 place grid penalty for that bizzar turn 1 incident. Clearly they decided the rules said there needed to be a penalty but it was so minor they handed him the least they could. Don't think I've seen a 1 place penalty before.

As for tyres, it's going to chew them. The long hairpins destroy the two front tyres and the track in general is overheating the rears meaning a lot were doing 2 cooldown laps in-between flyers. That combination of all 4 suffering but in different ways on different axels will be interesting. They were positing it probably being a safe 2 stop or a 1 stop with the worry of replicating Silverstone.

Yeah, it's odd how many cars have been struggling for pace. I didn't expect the McLarens to be struggling to get out of Q2 nor the poor performance of the Alpha Tauris.

The (relative to the rest of the season) small difference between the Mercs and Vestappen on one lap pace gives me hope for the race as the red bull tends to be better in the race, hopefully he can at least be pressing the Mercs and force them into uncomfortable strategy calls. Hopefully Albon can try to stick within a pit stop distance of the Mercs too from 4th so they don't have a 2 on 1 like usual this season. Plus I quite like Albon and want him to have a good performance to get him a bit of slack from the media.

That V10 screaming around the track reminds you just how shit modern F1 engines sound.

Yeah, I hope we have some type of an interesting race ahead. Hopefully the softs fall off quick and all the M and H runners behind kept within the pitstop window and they end up battling it out at the front for a bit. Safety car at the proper point in time would be nice to see again too.
 
Wow, that restart was fucked. Reminded me of F2 in Baku! I think the Williams getting points story is quite possibly the next fairy tale in the making. They have a shot now with a few more cars gone now.
 
Not Bottas' fault, the leader decides when they go. It was whoever at the back decided they'd restarted so went for a run on the pack that hadn't gone yet.
