I think it is 100% fair to say "all the drivers on the grid are happy with the direction of moving towards shorter and narrower cars"
That's a different talking point, though. It just feels like polishing a turd in the context of, that if you're going to tell me it's time to stop complaining, it's that there are still valid things to be pissed off about. If there were nothing to complain about, no one would have to declare a stopping point for it.

And dead center of the point: if the cars have problems and doesn't give an accurate depiction of anyone's ability to race, then what the hell is anyone watching for? An exhibition year?

here's a fun 2026 season fact
there are only two teams on the grid with fewer than 400 completed laps so far this season
one is Aston Martin (386), the other is McLaren (382)
(kudos to Cadillac for not being in that list!)

right now Ferrari is the only team to have completed every lap of every race this season
and we can rest assured that it's going to stay that way
after all, the next race is in Monaco, and nothing bad has ever happened to Charles Leclerc in Monaco, especially when qualifying on pole

I hate this notion of slip-on shoes without socks, booooo
10 second penalty (to Ocon obviously)

And now they're reducing the maximum engine and electrical deployment for Monaco worried the cars can go too fast. The 22 best drivers in the world everyone, can't have movable aero or full power as they might not be able to handle it.

They're determined to prevent anything exciting happening at Monaco. If the drivers were on the edge with movable aero and full power something interesting might have happened, or at very least the skill of the drivers tested.

I sat down yesterday to rewatch the 1966 classic Grand Prix. For those that haven't seen it, (you should) the opening scenes are set during the Monaco GP. Theres some good narration about how even back then, Monaco was the last of the old school street circuts.

And then I busted out laughing when the announcer on the PA in the movie mentioned that Monaco is too tight for overtakes. In 1966.

The sad part about the film was originally many criticized it for it's over the top fiery crashes, only for the film to set the tone for horrific wrecks and deaths of the later 60s and 70s. In fact Frankenheimer worked very close to get the feel for authenticity to the point he asked Lorenzo Bandini where in Monaco the most likely part of the track a wreck would occur, with the Harbor Chicane being in the film the wreck happens. Bandini would die a year later in Monaco at the exact corner in his own fiery wreck.

The scene with the drivers meeting has all the drivers of the time with half of those men would be dead due to motorsport accidents or in Graham Hill's case, a plane crash.

Leclerc signs new deal with Ferrari

I just can't with Charles. I can't tell if it's Stockholm Syndrome or if he can't separate himself from The Branding, or that Fred Vasseur has his balls in a jar on his desk and uses them as some sort of weird voodoo doll.

He might not have that many choices if Max is still flaky about Red Bull, Aston Martin isn't an option and is too much of a snob to "step down" and take a seat at a midfield or backmarker team like Sainz, but he didn't even hold out until later in the year to see what seats would be open.

Meanwhile, if Lewis sticks around after this year (and it's looking increasingly likely I was wrong about him retiring, so I'll swap out Ocon for Lewis as the third retirement this year), does Ollie Bearman spend another year at Haas waiting for a promotion? Because if I were him, I'd breathe a sigh of relief that a solid fucking moron and someone who probably should have retired after last year are blocking his ascendancy to a team that would have fucked him over anyway.

This is the man that lied to his father on his deathbed that he signed with Ferrari. He is never going to leave voluntarily.

Christ playing hopscotch. Everyone snickers over Max's daddy issues, but at least Max is self-directed.

You can just hear Charles crying out to God for having forsaken him for all the self-immolation that he's done over the years.

Monaco nullifies the battery management problems, probably one of the few tracks they van go full beans without having any super clipping.

Don’t be surprised if Monaco is one of the actual good races this year. Little bit smaller cars and the track layout means more deployment…

They actually nerfed the cars for Monaco.
Somewhat aging like fine wine, for now, that take of mine.

At least, there's potential.
