ESTERO, Fla – A man walking his Cavalier King Charles Spaniel puppy along a waterway in Estero saved the dog’s life after it was grabbed by an alligator, according to a report from WINK News.

The encounter was caught on a wildlife camera from the Florida Wildlife Federation and the fSTOP Foundation. The cameras usually capture videos of deer or bobcats.

Richard Wilbanks told WINK News that his instincts kicked in when his dog, Gunner, was grabbed.

“They’re like children to us, so there was no second thought whatsoever,” Wilbanks said.

Wilbanks said this was a learning experience, and he’ll keep Gunner on a leash. The dog is a little hesitant to go near the water now.

Wilbanks said his hands were cut prying the dog from the gator’s mouth.

Come on, Florida Man, you're losing your touch.

That gator is so small it wouldn't even produce one boot. I don't even think it would produce a belt, at least not for a waistline that big.

Fucking based, but why didn't he just whip out a pistol and blow the gator into oblivion?

these situations are so american. the most badass shit to happen in Europe is some fucker walking an Emu down a street.
Pistols are for city slickers and thugs. Out there in gator country you have a shotgun or a rifle.

Na. Proper gator hunting legally requires a clean kill with a handgun, so Florida Man heads out into the swamps on a boat, nabs the gator by the neck with a loop of heavy duty plastic cable on a pole, drags it up by the boat, and shoots it in the head with a pistol. Not joking. Fortunately a gator's jaw muscles are weak as hell for opening unlike the closing muscles, so as long as you can avoid those foreclaws or that tail you're safe from attack if you can bind it, which is what the second Florida Man and his much smaller loop of cable is for.

This is correct. The idea behind the law is to have only conclusive kills, with no escaped (wounded, angry, hungry) gators.

I've seen this same story a few times before, always nice to read. But I eagerly await the day Florida man reaches his peak and I read the headline "Florida man fights dog to save alligator".
Maybe my Florida man is showing but wrestling with gators is not nearly as dangerous as it sounds.
This one was puny too.

For bigger boys you are strong enough to hold its mouth closed with your hands and just avoid the tail. The most dangerous part is closing in.
