I'm legitimately confused how this is even a product. Is this just something for people who won't jailbreak a phone and use old key FOBs and download scripts for them to do exactly what a Flipper Zero can?
Edit: to tie it into the current drama, it's just perplexing the CEO has such pride in a product that seems like such a rip-off or that there are people trying to compete for the spot of best overpriced "elite hacker" tool.

It’s convenient, not the best for anything particular but it works right out of the box. I think most people buy it as a toy but I’m sure a decent amount of people use it to break into shit.

Stock it's a capable unit. With the momentum firmware it becomes quite a powerful tool. It's main use for me is as a backup remote and a USB ducky key injector. It works great for those remote multiscript setups were you cannot use directly loaded scripts.
It's quite dangerous in the hands of a retard, but so is a loaded gun.

(Un?)surprisingly the bulk of people I know who own one only use it to spoof Amiibo and turn TV's off/on in retail settings. It can also open Tesla charger ports, so I suppose "generic criminal mischief" device is the best use-case.

I forgot I bought one of these things.

Never did figure out how to do anything with it, because I'm retarded.

recently announced
the announcement has a strange tone, and I can't quite put my finger on it

maybe because the term "cyberdeck" pisses me off

or because of the... "this is uncomfortable/we need your help" combination

if open-ness is paramount and awesome and the solution... what's the problem?

surely, soliciting the help of your vibrant cool h4xx0r community will be a literal dream come true... luxury gay space cyberpunk communism

lol WTF? They paid for that?

Literally any phone with an NFC radio can do that with free software, including writing new Amiibo tags (complete with the "write-once-read-many" section of the tag). Works perfectly with those dirt-cheap little circle tags you can buy on Amazon for like $5 a bag. I did it once to screw around with Fire Emblem Three Houses to see what useless garbage scanning Amiibo tags grants (not much, IIRC).

It was hyped as a super elite hacker tool but most people aren't hackers. If you aren't a pentester or a criminal then most of what you can do with the flipper is a gimmick or a nuisance.

I remember some wannabe-'leet hax0r trying to beat me over the head a few years ago over these things over on NextDoor when I still bothered with that (my parents' HOA has done the equivalent of "regulatory capture" there though and occupied at least some of the mod positions, so the site is useless for this neighborhood) insisting my home was an open door and he could hack me "any time he wanted" with his fun little Flipper.

Failing to take the hint that I was entertaining his offer by suggesting to him I wasn't running typical "consumer gear" for things like my home network, wifi and such (not that this immunizes me from wifi shenanigans, it just makes it more fun and interesting and I wanted to see what he could do), it finally came down to "here's my literal address, asshole, come open my garage door today between 3pm and 5pm to show me your mighty powers" and he immediately demurred and said he wasn't a "hacker" and was just trying to make a point.

I feel like this gadget has its uses but encourages faggotry of the obnoxious kind (as if there was any other, tbh) in most people who actually wind up buying them.

Most people are way too unknowledgeable to do much if anything with it without a step-by-step "Baby's First" type of guide to hold their hand through exactly what additional software they need to acquire and what levers to pull within, but putting that aside, one of the most interesting uses I've seen achieved using one is in a Youtube video where, after explaining the theoreticals in regards to how one could possibly accomplish such a thing, a man wordlessly goes on a little joyride driving himself around town for an extended period getting only green lights in a city area extremely dense with traffic lights...

That seems incredibly ambitious. I wonder how expensive that'll be.
That's the thing, after this announcement there was a lot of backlash especially from the more tech-literate parts of their customers that this is extreme scope bloat, probably not viable to be done by a small company, and that they're basically looking for free labor.

After this announcement and the backlash, they just disappeared off the face of the internet. Double funny is the fact that there were some people that visited Discord after reading this post, asking what they can do to help. Then they found out there's literally no one from the company on the official Discord (linked in the post to boot), it's all just tranny jannies.

Yeah they bit off a LOT more than they could chew with the One and even if the current state of the community wasn't a dumpster fire, this would need a shitton of professional technical expertise to actually make it to market.

A lot of phones straight up cannot be jailbroken. I am completely SOL with my Samsung because I want the Adreno GPU for running containerized Linux with Vulkan drivers. To make it worse the one I have is the last model they ever made with a 3.5 headset jack.

Even if you are a hacker it doesn't have much use outside gimmicks and nuisance. There's always a better tool for the job. It works "okay" as a RFID card fuzzer for highly insecure badge read systems, but thats really about it.
