Sunday marks five years since George Floyd was pinned by his neck and killed by police in the streets of Minneapolis, sparking a historic wave of calls to action to end police brutality and racial injustice.

Since Floyd was murdered on May 25, 2020, by Minneapolis police, crowds have trekked to the city every year on the anniversary of his death to pay their respects and celebrate his legacy.

On a weekend that is usually reserved for remembering fallen veterans, Floyd’s presence is everywhere in the Twin Cities — from author readings to prayer circles, concerts and more.

On Sunday, there are several planned events to honor Floyd’s life, with most of the major activities happening near the intersection of 38th Street and Chicago Avenue where he was killed. At what’s now known as George Floyd Square, scheduled events include a morning church service followed by an evening gospel concert — featuring popular local choir the Sounds of Blackness — and a candlelight vigil.

This year’s theme for the annual Rise and Remember Festival that celebrates Floyd’s life in George Floyd Square is “the people have spoken.”

“Now is the time for the people to rise up and continue the good work we started,” Angela Harrelson, an aunt of Floyd and board co-chair of the Rise and Remember nonprofit, said in a statement.

At nearby Phelps Field Park, a “Justice for George” exhibit will showcase plywood murals from 2020.

Floyd’s death ignited a worldwide movement not only to make changes in policing but also to address systemic racial inequities in other areas of society. However, the commitment to that global movement’s long-term legacy has been debated.

This year’s milestone anniversary is marked by a stark contrast in the political atmosphere and societal acceptance of policing reforms, equity and racial justice work that had been widely called for in the aftermath of Floyd’s death in 2020.
On Wednesday, the Department of Justice filed to dismiss a consent decree agreement with Minneapolis that was supposed to entail sweeping reforms. There have also been rumors that President Donald Trump, who was the president when Floyd was killed, might pardon former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin, who was convicted in Floyd’s murder. Publicly, Trump has given no credence to the rumors.

The Trump administration has also tried to ban diversity, equity and inclusion programs throughout the country in public as well as private organizations.

Let's loot and destroy stores in the name of gibs racism. That will show the yt man as we destroy our communities! (if you could call them communities)

I will never stop sincerely wishing death upon anyone who supported the Burn Loot Murder terrorism in 2020.

From the bottom of my heart, if you supported that shit in any way no matter how small, I want you to die.

That's perfect. Downtown and Uptown Minneapolis is in an doom spiral with fleeing businesses, missing shoppers, middle class flight and a hollowed out tax base. The riots killed the future of that city.

Minneapolis gets what it fucking deserves.

I still remember how the dems were pushing COVID isolation and vaccines under penalty of ruining your livelihood, until suddenly they had an excuse to mobilize every liberal under their command to do marches and riots right before the big election against Trump. And then suddenly there was all this eager doublethink about how open air protests in the name of St. Floyd were the one righteous exception to all the lockdown nonsense and they were certain nobody was getting COVID at those events.

Did they actually name a place George Floyd Square?
Yes, several years ago they renamed the street where he died after him. They've also permanently shut down that major intersection since the day he died, and are planning to turn it into a memorial pedestrian area (no cars or buses).

Surrounding George Floyd Square is one of the most dangerous neighborhoods in Minneapolis, of course. It's been mostly unpoliced for five years and violent drug dealers run the hood.

Minneapolis is one of the worst anti-white cities in the country, making even Seattle look reasonable, Maybe burning the city down was a good idea afterall.

Ahh, I remember 3-inch """BBC""" Fentynal Floyd days. His nigger kin being shitskins and burning cities down gave me and my kin the courage to finally conduct an armed protest at our co-opted State capitol. Maybe in a few more years they'll convince us to go even further next time.

I do find it fascinating that the early Christians made people martyrs for being killed while spreading the faith or refusing to betray it while American blacks martyr people for being killed while being a degenerate and criminal Nigger.
It's almost like their a sub-saharan antithetical tribe to White's and their civilization...

And videos too, I still think this one is one of the most hillarious things I've ever seen. You can encapsulate the entirety of the brainrotted liberal ideology in this video alone.

You could never ask for a better example; the hubris of the guys behind the window, thinking that being on the side of the crazed zombies is going to prevent them from getting bitten, recording a video and showing a sign of approval thinking "break all the windows you want, just not mine" hoping for Internet points (because why else would they be recording) and then the cold reality hitting them like that brick through their window.

This nigger did not fall from haven to die upon a white man's knee.

RIP big floyd.

Here's the 2020 BLM riot thread we had here.

Thank you nigga, was unironically looking for this video earlier but could not find

It's funny because I know someone who lives in Minneapolis and he copes about how it has the highest quality of pretty much everything - living standard, education, infrastructure, etc. etc.

Is it now even worse than Detroit?
I'd argue yes, because Detroit still has that hard working blue collar attitude among many blacks. There are people who work factories and live in the house their family has owned for 3 generations. Minneapolis blacks are HORRIBLE, and then there's Somalis and assorted migrant trash all over the city.

Oh, I know. The vast majority of Minneapolis whites are like that.

Ask him to look up his neighborhood elementary school and tell you what percentage of students are proficient in math or reading by 5th grade. Ask him to compare high school achievement scores on national exams like the NAEP compared to Florida or Texas, the evil red states.

Ask him to explain why the racial achievement gap in Minneapolis schools is so much worse than almost everywhere in the US. [Mpls has some of the worst blacks in the country, and coddles them endlessly]

Then ask him about the local murder rate compared to same size/demographics cities. Ask him what percentage of those murders end up "unsolved". But don't bother asking about other crime rates because the city deliberately underreports everything but murder (they can't hide dead bodies).

local archive just in case, because that was beautiful

Yeah, I remember being told to not leave my house or else, while watching massive crowds of rioters destroy cities and be praised for it. Thanks George Floyd, I'll never forget.

Never forget your relatives were forced to die alone isolated from family members surrounded by masked strangers, while this dumb criminal nigger got not only one, but TWO state funded funerals with full attendance and a gold plated casket.
