Police were called to Lower Francis Street in Abertridwr, Caerphilly
Five people have been arrested and a murder investigation has been launched after a 17-year-old died.
Gwent Police said they were called to Lower Francis Street in Abertridwr, Caerphilly, at about 17:45 GMT on Thursday after reports that a teenage boy, from the village, had sustained a serious injury.
He was pronounced dead at the scene. His family have been informed and are being supported by specialist officers.
Three men, a 26-year-old from London, a 24-year-old from Abertridwr and an 18-year-old from Cardiff, were all arrested on suspicion of murder.
Two women, a 28-year-old from Hereford and 24-year-old from Senghenydd, Caerphilly, were arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender.
Det Ch Insp Jitka Tomkova-Griffiths from Gwent Police said residents would see an increased number of officers in the area while the force carried out further enquires.
"It is important that people do not speculate about the identities of those involved as this could present problems to our investigation," he said.
Local councillor Charlotte Bishop said the community was "deeply shocked and saddened" by what had happened, describing the area as "tight-knit".
Floral tributes were laid in Abertridwr on Friday
Darren Williams, 55, lives on Lower Francis Street and said he first noticed "flashing lights" as he was walking down a lane nearby.
"I thought somebody had taken a turn for the worse in the street," he said.
"I noticed that there was the police lines around it and someone said there'd been an incident."
He described the street as typically "very, very quiet" with "no trouble at all".
