JC was good as a prop to motivate Cole, but any pretty girl who was willing to feed into Cole could have done the exact same job. She could have been worse but she wasn't unique and I would definitely not call her great by any stretch. Payton did like one interesting thing (which to be fair was the top clip of the season) but otherwise was total nontent, and doing one interesting thing on a 6-week show is not enough to make a contestant great.

Both of them provided a very valuable normie pov. Payton specifically had a good arc to her, starting out completely forgettable as the lesser third of the Alexis/La'Ron/Payton trio, then having probably the single worst reaction to the Fishtank twist in the house, yet somehow becoming the one to stick around as her friends dropped, and coming into her own in the process. That's like an actual story, and it's actually far more rare and valuable than being able to pull wacky stunts and talk shit, the classic "content" stuff. And the viewers agreed because she went on to be the most endorsed fish for a period of time.
I can agree that she fizzled out later, but that's true of season 3 in general.

RIP Ellie, your life was fucked from the start, and the people who should have been there for you either weren't there, or were not able to really grasp the severity of the problem or how to fix it. Fishtank wasn't the place to be, and the people associated with it weren't going to help.

As for Jet, he's a scumbag. He knows it, but I think part of him is maybe starting to realize his actions have real consequences. He's not engaged in damage control or spin right now. Something like this happening once in your life can perhaps be rationalized away, but twice? We joke about Jettry Nepstein and whatnot, but he's not a cold psychopath like Epstein or Weinstein. He's just a horny sleazy drug-addicted loser who stumbled into a mentorship and an idea that gave him far more success than his life and actions would normally warrant. The burdens of being reminded of past sins goes deeper than just reputation management or holding on to what tiny clout he has as head of production. He may get his shit together and try to continue with Fishtank once he gets over the immediate shock, but the moment something slips past TTS filters, it'll make Sam's reactions to Marky-posting seem like small potatoes in comparison. You may not be the sole cause for what happened, but you're going to carry those ghosts till the day you die, Jet, and when that time comes you're going to have to answer for the the part you played.

Well said, I know Jet isn’t some evil movie villain. But something like this happening needs to be a huge wake up call, it’s bad enough that it had to happen twice. I don’t hate the guy and I know he’s probably grieving too, I do feel bad actually especially knowing his past, but he needs to be reminded that his actions have consequences (not that he’s solely responsible for Ellie’s death).

The “ironic” glorification of drugs isn’t really funny anymore and now just seems like a desperate attempt at masking his own problems. If he somehow manages to keep fucking up he’s gonna end up like his father, which would be horrible to watch.

I think the scariest thing about all of this is all of the attention it is getting. The angry screeds from people like Freddy and Jin, the endless "oh no, my day is totally ruined, I can't believe she's gone, this stranger I watched on my computer for a few hours". That's the kind of shit that causes social contagion with these unstable little girls. There's not really a solution, people are always going to act this way when people die. Just something to think about before you make your "heartfelt" post on this "tragedy".

Ellie made the stupidest decision possible, wasted her own life, and irreversibly damaged the people who cared about her. Had she killed another 19 year old girl we'd be talking about how she's scum, but because it was herself it so so sad. When a murderer is mentally they can be found not guilty by reason of mental defect, but that doesn't excuse the terrible thing they did. Suicide is nothing more than murder of oneself.

The people I feel sorry for in all of this are Ellie's victims. People in her real life that actually cared about her and were there like her sister. Even if they weren't the best people and made stupid decisions, I'm sure they genuinely loved her. She could have called any one of them. Instead she decided to punish them.
