You know what makes Brian so unlikable? Shinji is Shinji he's not putting on a act or doing a bit, Tay is herself she's not pretending to be another person, same for Jimmy and same for Trish. Brian always feels like he's trying to be this cool guy badass he clearly isn't. That's what makes him so unlikable. You can see it clearly in the group therapy sessions where he tells TJ to assert himself and he is pretending to be some kind of alpha coach jock person he isn't. Everyone else is just themselves and he's doing this really bad performance thing that is failing. Brian seems so desperate to be liked by the audience he can't be himself.

I respect authenticity over someone playing a character any day.

The two times that Brian seemed to be the 'most liked' as far as I remember were when (1) he did the standup bit that was all stolen from memes and half-remembered Cumtown bits, and (2) his character on Bloodgames, which was literally just a really shitty impression of John Marston/Arthur Morgan.

The absolute peak of Brian's FT experience, and likely life, in terms of popularity is him just poorly regurgitating things that funnier/more talented people have done. It'd be one thing if he was self-aware of this or able to accept that this is him, but he clearly has quite a large ego and likes to smell his own farts.

I distinctly remember Shinji revealing he was a MDE fan near the end of the season which would make sense that he would have a cover story since the fish were supposed to pretend to not be fans early on.

Then again, Shinji can barely speak English so he might not even know what he's saying most of the time.
