I think a big reason shows like this gradually shave off the contestants is that the fewer people showrunners have to deal with the less money they have to spend on them. Food budget for 8 people for six weeks is a not insignificant cost.

It also just makes more drama as people are motivated to be interesting or be booted, and when it's a smaller group it's easier to do larger and more elaborate challenges designed specifically to fuck with those people.

does anyone have an idea on how many total viewers there have been roughly? there are some videos (simmons kicked out) on youtube getting 150k views, iv seen youtube peak at 25k which is more like 35k with addblock not included, and iv seen their stream get to 30k in their site i believe. at one point early on jet said 60k, but the video getting 100k+ views makes me think upwards of 200k people have tuned in
