Well Chris doesn't claim any of this income. The IRS isn't going to send over somebody to audit him based on a CWCki link. The only thing with any real digital trail is patreon, but there's SSDI cows here that abuse it way worse and haven't been busted yet.

Selling handmade crafts certainly can be a business. But this sounds more like an art project where Chris sells a few items at a farmer's market a couple of times a month. Maybe Chris could pay the cable bill, but not the rent.
Yes. But that gets more into rules about amounts of income, not types of income. SSDI allows you to make about $1200 a month. So if Chris' art earnings tend to stay below that they can be deemed as earning activities without risking the tugboat.

So if Chris made $1200 selling crap consistently throughout the month, that's viewed differently than Chris making $1200 by sporadically selling crap when bills are due? That kind of makes sense.

It is more about what crap he sells. If he makes it, it is a business. If he buys it primarily for the purpose of selling it ASAP for a higher price, it is a business. If he is just selling stuff he owns, it isn't.

The term to google is "substantial gainful activity". It's basically asking, "are you too crippled to make an income like a normal person?"
Yes. But that gets more into rules about amounts of income, not types of income. SSDI allows you to make about $1200 a month. So if Chris' art earnings tend to stay below that they can be deemed as earning activities without risking the tugboat.
My argument is that the amount of income helps define type of income. That is, a hobby vs a real job.

Below $1200 a month it's a hobby. Above $1200 it's a job.

If you can only work hobbies, you get SSDI. If you can work a job, you don't.

Good for Chris getting like 50000% more than Cole could on his "buy me a beer" auctions. Cole tries so hard to be the famous Weston spawn through his elementary-level contrarian reviews while Chris gets hundreds to thousands of dollars per month and has several "fans" even though he has been doing less and less.

That does not matter. Social security cares about substantial gainful activity. SGA is much more than having a job. SGA is anything that requires "substantial" physical or mental effort and is intended to produce a profit, whether or not that profit is made. Chris running his eBay and patreon comic empire empires would be a problem if the social security man came a knockin' because it shows that Chris could have some type of job. Chris doing work worth the SGA limit would be enough to jeopardize his tugboat, but no one will ever find about it because the government is as incompetent as Chris.
Chris is not alone here either. Many of the "disabled" morons profiled herein are scamming an ignorant social security agency while doing SGA.
His patreon could very much be considered SGA. Though it could argue its a hobby, I think the SSA would consider it SGA. Thing is his Patreon has never reached $1180 and hes allowed to make over that amount for 9 months before he gets penalized.

His ebay would not be considered SGA. Yes many people use ebay as a business, and Chris has done in the so in the past, but selling shit he has laying around the house is not "work" or a "business"

The main problem Chris would have from his ebay activity would only arise if the IRS comes knocking. His Paypal looks like it may be on track to go over the $20,000 and 200 transactions limit for them to auto report his paypal income to the IRS. Chris hasnt been keeping track of what he sells nor has he filed income taxes. It would be up to him to prove his ebay wasnt SGA.

This has been said before but his ebay is not "gainful employment"

It all depends on how much he regularly makes, if his patreon and eBay income regularly surpassed the SSDI monthly income levels he could be disqualified for SSDI.

Selling things online can be considered a business if it reaches a certain level of profit for long enough.

I’m not sure if he’s reached that quite yet though.

Funny thing is, the closest he's come to running a business that could get him in trouble was mass publishing his comic. Which he fucked up by being Chris. His lazyness and stupidity saved him.

Same thing with his eBay, it could be argued that those toys are actually just gifts exchanged for a sizable donation.

Even with Chris's Tugboat, and Barbs Social Security, they can't afford the mortage and upkeep costs? Virginia isn't the most expensive state to live in, and his area looks like it's pretty low (under 4k a year depending). Not sure of the house value or loan terms, but I have to wager a guess its under 200K, and on 30yr term. I know they may have other debt and shit, but still, like we all suspect, they could manage their money better.

We've all floated the idea of him getting some sort of job. I think he would have the capacity to at least be a wal-mart greeter part time. I've seen retards with less functionality than Chris there doing that... Idk if that would be grounds to stop the tugboat, but if it was part-time maybe not?

If they really can't afford the monthly payments, one time selling items on ebay won't cover things long term. He needs sustained income, even minimum wage part time income to add...

Why am I typing this, I know this won't happen with him.

To be clear though, it's not a mortgage from a largely reputable bank. It's a second mortgage from (or perhaps sold too?) a bunch of leg breakers in cheap suits. They probably have some sort of APR that makes credit cards seem fairly priced.

Seaterus, the wonderful company they owe money to, is so squeaky clean they are in the midst of multiple class action lawsuits, including not paying insurance they were supposed to on mortgages, billing customers for already cleared accounts, not properly closing loans in credit reports once payed off, robocalling people after being informed, via writing, to only correspond through mail (this is actually a really big no-no for debt collectors), and several others.

I called them legbreakers, but Chris and Barb might actually have been better off with Tony Soprano and friends than Seaterus.

Even their name sounds like the Greek god of delinquent finances.

I hope the new cars and iPhones and thrift store garbage and gold necklace and games and mountains and mountains of toys were worth the cost, because Chris will be paying it off for the rest of his life. At least his mother has an exit strategy.

The IRS is not really keen on sharing information with other government groups that it isn't obligated to by law.

One place this comes up is with illegal immigrants. The IRS has no problem accepting taxes from illegal immigrants, and they don't share the details of their immigration status with INS (or maybe the don't even ask in the first place?).

I don't think the SSA actively monitors tax returns for people exceeding the SGA. (Well, and if tax returns are private anyway, they might not be allowed to.) I think they go by the honor system, backed up by excessive fines and possibly jailtime if you fail to report.

Barb's a fuckup. I have no clue what she's doing. But yeah, Seterus is also really fucked up too.

Heh, I think Chris legit would have no problem living in a trailer park, eating hungry man dinners for the rest of his life. Just perpetually paying an extra 10% on everything purely through interest, because he has a perpetual maxed out credit card.

That is to say, not that he likes it, but it'll just be normal to him. Like that's just the way life is.

Yeah, people here forgot that Chris has been a fringe dweller for a while now. Everyday he navigates a junk heap, showers in a disgusting moldy mess and hadn't had a loving home cooked meal in over ten years. Ten fucking years. He doesn't want to live this way, he just currently doesn't have a choice thanks to barb.

I got that, you're correct in the basic principle. My response was that you got it backwards. Chris is making money, but he's not demonstrating SGA.

That's a lie, Chris has been getting more than this a month from both Patreon and video requests, as well as ebay sells.

No, the ebay sale does not count as an asset since, it's not a car a house, or an inheritance. Chris is basically marking up low useless junk for lots of profit. His patreon was reduced last month, but if he does continue like previous months (plus paid ween videos and ebay), he is at risk for losing da tugboat. 1,180 dollars. These people don't care, I'm sure they'd glady kick Chris off government monies. Chris exceeded that amount last month by almost 4-5 times that.

Why does everyone want Chris to get a job? I have to assume they don't live in the US, because I don't want, even in the remotest chance, that Chris will touch something I'll eat. And I don't live aaaaanywhere near the fucking guy, and STILL don't like those odds.

Hate to burst your bubble, but I'm afraid it won't be that cut and dry.

Chris is not consistently earning a sustained income in excess of his allowed extra monies earned atop his benefits. If he were, they'd be happy to cut him off as soon as they got wind of it, but what he's been doing is not a consistent income in excess of his benefit cap, at least not as the tax assessor would define income as applied to his benefit eligibility.

tl;dr: His tard bux are safe so long as he's not earning a regular living wage that pays better than the government.

I don't want Chris to get a job either, but I think there is a very grey area as far as what counts as employment.

Yeah, I said this earlier but Chris really saved himself by fucking up his comic publishing. That whole little endeavor came very close to being a profitable idea.
