Final Fantasy XIV - Kiwi Free Company

Has Mr. Happy spoke at all about Asmongold?
Damn near every FFXIV content creator has except for the spergy ones, and ive noticed that Mr. Happy hasnt either, Unless he did and i missed it, i cant stand the thought of searching thru his state of the realm videos...

When I used to play wow I had a bunch of add ons for when I was a healer. Now that I play 14 exclusively on console and can't have add ons, I don't really see what kind of add ons you could really need for this game unless it's purely cosmetic

ACT handles damage parsing, and that Cactbot addon that was just mentioned looks a lot like DBM for WoW in that it has timers and alerts for mechanics, along with having a fuckup log (records who made mistakes/died and when), an overly simplified Job gauge with buffs and procs tracked, Notorious Monster tracking for Eureka, fishing tracking, and Hunt mob tracking (plus logging who pulled the mob first). I didn't really look too much into Trig but it seems to also have boss mechanic tracking/alerts.

So, basically, retard checkers for retards who are probably too used to their WoW addons. I imagine it helps with situational awareness (because you can't get more situationally aware than some functionality of an addon screeching mechanics at you), but it's not like any aspect of almost any boss in XIV is that hard to track and adjust around without them.

The in game HUD customization tool is great. One of the first things I did was sort out where everything on my screen was to reduce screen clutter. Even Runescape 3 has a similar system. It's bad when WoW is falling behind a point and click game.

I started playing recently, have just been solo questing for the most part, just got out of the starting forest area via airship. I had a few questions.

1. I've heard people remark that its easy to get banned over inconsequential things. What kind of stuff? Yeah, I figure obvious stuff like racial slurs, but what else are common causes for the banhammer? Will I get in trouble for telling someone they suck? Mods?

2. Haven't played wow in years, but I remember various general chars being particularly active(trade, zone, etc). I dont see much like that in FF14, I've looked through the menus. Does everyone just use discord or party chat, or am I missing something?

3. When is a good time to level gathering crafting, in terms of efficiency? Would it be worthwhile/effective to do concurrent with first time story playthrough with combat spec, or better to leave till high level. If the latter, would you recommend 50 or cap(80 I think)?

4. I've heard there is a transmog equivilant. Is it worthwhile hoarding armor sets or does game track what you've obtained? If hoarding equipment is needed, how bad is inventory space as your collection grows?
1: ask the American players.
2: ffxiv doesn’t have a lot of zone chats or anything of the sort - /shout fills that role, but it doesn’t hold like a typical chat room. Free Company Chat, Linkshells, and the Novice Network chat are where you should go to discuss things. Particularly the Novice Network, if you’re a newbie.
3: it’s less important when you level it relative to the main levels, and more important that you level several or all of the classes together. They all use the same equipment except for the actual tools, and in most cases, they’ll offer a set of equipment at each milestone quest but only let you take one piece. As that equipment is universally good for that type of class, if you do all the milestones at once you get the whole set for free. Moreover, later on you’ll get a lot of cross-class material requirements. You can just buy them, but it’s definitely worth grinding them as a group.
4: space will be an issue long term. You can either put items in the Glamour Dresser (large finite space glamours can be sourced from) the Armoire (special space for seasonal/cross promotional items with infinite storage but only for specific items) or a retainer (essentially another copy of your inventory attached to the image of a servant of your character.

Anyone who uses cactbot is a faggot and should be mocked, for being a faggot. ACT is fine.
At least ACT can help as a performance metric. Needing to use a DBM equivalent in a game that already pretty clearly telegraphs mechanics and all it takes is a fuckup or two to really learn how they work is almost inexcusably retarded.

But then again, most of the players of XIV are inexcusably retarded as it is and they have a very hard time with the basic concept of simple pattern recognition and situational awareness. Case in point, especially lately when I'm running Levelling roulette, 9 out of 10 parties I get tend to wipe to the first boss of Great Gubal Library and I end up having to solo the boss by myself. Even after all these years, people still can't seem to figure out not to stand in clearly telegraphed floor markers and that there's probably a reason why everyone's running/sliding to the other side of the arena when the big scary book boss is using that Disclosure cast.

What the hell is Cactbot? Is that a Cactpot addon that helps assists in maximizing MGP gains? If so, that is gay. It shouldn't take but two brain cells to get decent payouts.
No, it's like DBM in WoW. It tells you stuff like where and when an attack is going to be triggered. It's also why you can't change Waymarks in the middle of battle anymore.

Oh so like those add-ons for Oldschool RuneScape bosses that take the thought out of learning mechanics. Got it.

You may as well just not play at that point. Struggling and perseverance is what gives those big hits of dopamine.

Update to this post. This weekend beat last weekend's peak by 10k. Beat Shadowbringer's peak by 17k. Jesus.

Actually enjoying updating these posts. Peak broken again by 9k concurrent players. Shadowbringers peak now broken by 26k.

Twin Highlights of the day:
Bald man got to and beat Coil Turns 12 and 13. Here's the timestamp of him hitting the Phase 3 transition for the first time.

At the same time, /wowg/ was having a complete meltdown about how awesome Turn 12 and Turn 13 of coils is. Of particular note is the T13 phase 3 change that occured for the first time at 14:00 CDT

On top of that, more normie streamers like Moistcr1tikal and Summit1g have picked up and started playing FFXIV and enjoying it. I expect we're going to be be beating this peak again next week as well.

Not sure how I feel about it. Got the trial, made a dude and one of the first quests was 'murder 5 squirrels'.

I've heard it gets better after the abysmal grind-but I'm feeling pretty done with MMOs and their 10 bear asses.
How much 'better' does it actually get?

It's really not grindy, at least not that type where you have to murder everything you see for hours to level up. In fact, that's discouraged as it's very inefficient and you'll make a lot of gains doing the Main Scenario Quests. I think a more important question is, how much can you tolerate story heaviness?

I finished the main storyline of ARR last week and yeah, the game really opens up at level 50. You get harder dungeons, harder trials, more daily content etc.

While getting there, you get a steady stream of content and the game slowly teaches you everything you need to know to not embarrass yourself.

Also, you can always take a break and do some side content or do some gathering and crafting. Oh, and don't forget to join the Maelstrom, soldier.

Remember, it's either the Failstrom, Twin Badders or Immortal Lames. You may as well choose the least bad option.

Also Lady Admiral is pretty cool.

EDIT: Asmonmeme seems to be having fun. Good on him. And fuck me, that Teraflare is impressive as hell considering they had to do that in a time when they needed to support the PS3.

Sorry but Thanalan has that Rabanastre/Dalmasca Ester/Westersand feeling going for it and because my favorite installment of Final Fantasy is 12 (the original on PS2, not International Zodiac or Zodiac Age editions), I had to join The Immortal Flames.

Also, Ul'Dah is less populated in my experiences so far and less crowding is always a plus for me.

Aye, that is also true. I'll proly join them too if I ever make a twink.

It's also a shame you cannot reach the highest ranks yet.
