Another way to shake up the Scions is to let the twins grow up into their giraffe selves. There would be too much backlash though.
In an earlier post I mentioned how Meracydia would have been my ideal post-EW expansion. My plan after that? A time skip that leads into Dawntrail and can be the start of 'FFXIV-2' or whatever. This would give them a way to break up the MSQ to deal with the overload issue that a lot of new players bring up as CU3 could easily make a 2-3 minute cinematic explaining the Hydalyn/Zodiark story while adding the ability to go back to the OG game zones if you want for holiday events and the old raids/trials or using NG+ to go through the original MSQ.

As for the amount of time I'd say maybe another five years? A lot can happen in that time. Characters age up, new alliances and enemies can pop up, and we could have Dawntrail be the start of the new adventures dealing with what will lead to be the Solstice. We could even make it so instead of us being invited to Tural by Wuk instead it would be us going there as representatives of the Eorzean Alliance as the New World is opening up more and because we find out about more Azim-related stuff happened there at one point.

Kind of a rough spitball of an idea but still better than what we got.

There were crazy as fuck yumejoshi since ARR and they were very plentiful. You’d be surprised at the amount of people back in the old days who, prior to ShB. developed extreme unhealthy obsessions both romantic and non romantic towards characters. They also get extremely upset over their husbando’s/waifu’s storylines ending and will accuse the current writers of mistreating these characters and tossing them away in the msq. People who want to fuck the twins have been a thing since the beginning and Minfilia and Y’shtola gooners are still the worst. I will spare the details of all the graphic fantasies people often have of those two. I had to deal with shippers’ obnoxious asses for years. People latching on to G’raha and Emet is just another day ending in Y in the community and they’re honestly no worse than other character simps.

I’m going to be honest I never actually saw that hotel scene as anything dating sim related or pandering. That chunk of the msq was all downtime after we cleared the first dungeon and it was simply just a way to interact with the Scions before the next major event occurred in the story.

Back in the day (and still today) we had plenty of people who interpret the dinner scene with Aymeric in HW as romantic (including ones who don’t simp for him) and Haurchefant was a horny motherfucker towards the WoL in the Japanese version of ARR. I even remember people getting really upset during the ARR era over the English localization changing him because they loved his original horny personality and it got to the point where Koji apologized for it.

As for G’raha I never really saw any of his post Exarch interactions as blatantly romantic. Just one of those things where the interactions could be left up for interpretation. There may be one or two instances that could come off that way but that’s it. Not to mention outside the gondola scene in DT (which ironically many people say is one of the few well written parts of DT) he rarely spends time with us and mostly hangs out with Krile especially in the post DT patches. I feel like both his fans and haters are the ones who flanderized the character into a romantic fanboy and not the writers.

Like I said earlier in the thread Y’shtola and Runar clearly having feelings for each other caused yurifags to have violent meltdowns and wish horrible shit on Ishikawa. You also have the crazy “Zero is a lesbian” shippers who throw tantrums over people shipping her with Jullus. I even saw someone say they wanted to tell a Zero/Jullus shipper they saw in game to kill themselves. I know full well that if they added WoL/NPC dating sim elements you would have people throwing a fit if their favorite NPC isn’t a romance option and would probably violently harass the writers.

I feel like such an asshole, I went into a Hard Dungeon, keep in mind I'm only in the Level 50s.

We get to the middle of the dungeon and we all wipe out, I decide to log out. I go to log back in and it puts me into the dungeon with the same teammates.

So I turn off my console. I don't know how to leave the duty lol. I don't think I'm ready for these hard dungeons, like I don't know any of the commands this one person was typing, I started the game this month.

Curious which dungeon caused you all to wipe. There's only 1 hard dungeon I can think off that has a really specific gimmick that walls people if they don't know how to handle it.

To leave a duty, you have to go to the duty list and then just select "leave duty" it won't boot you out just because you log off.
If you're the first to leave a duty without being kicked, you get hit with a 30 minute penalty that won't let you queue for anything else. Basically the game's way of deterring people from abandoning groups recklessly and frequently.

Graha in game is annoying because I think they push him to have a crush on you without your character being able to say no. It could be a translation error too. I've read the same is for Allisaie in English and comes off as a lesbian, but in Japanese her character is very different, she's star struck.
I didn't get that vibe with either of the characters but it is really easy to understand how retards who are socially stunted would interpret any sort of positive interaction/attention as being romantic interest. See also the other person who said shit about Aymeric and the dinner with him as being 'romantic.' Or the various google docs with grooming accusations that seem to come out weekly with this fanbase .

Both of them are basically just people who admire the fuck out of the WoL. Graha is pretty clear about it, in that he has heroic aspirations (despite not realizing he's hit that mark), while Alisaie is trying to be a fiercely independent character (whose stance has softened over the various expansions) who is also super envious of the WoL's abilities.

Both tie in super well with their own backstories -- Alisaie had a ton of love/admiration for Louisoix and we sort of adopted the father figure role for her, largely due to being the person who could 'fix' things and do things considered impossible (which is also borne out with her arc with the porxies.) But because Alisaie gets a little flustered when her 'stoic' composure breaks it clearly means she's tsundere (I think that's the weeb term?) and the game devs want us to jump the bones of a minor.

Hard dungeons aren't that difficult, to be honest. I wouldn't be put off by the name.

What role were you on? And what dungeon was it, if you recall? A couple of the Hard dungeons have some jank mechanics.

I wouldn't sweat too much about wiping. It's better to just ask or listen if people are explaining mechanics. People are generally pretty chill compared to other MMOs.

There's a few that are unintuitive the first time around. Tam Tara's first boss (the archer) has caused a few wipes even after I explain what you're supposed to do (use the AE marker you get to kill adds -- people just run around chicken headed trying to avoid everything) and IIRC, Pharos and Amdapor both have mechanics that can trip up parties as well.

Honestly man, if you're Lv 50 you're still a sprout and most players with incredibly rare exceptions will cut you a lot of slack for screwing up and not knowing things. If you don't understand something being said, just say so or ask for clarification and most players will explain. It's hard to be on the offering help end at times because of how the ToS is written so it's more on newbies to ask questions. I get the panic though, I did something similar when I was new and hit my first dungeon that was on content (Sirensong Sea) because I sucked at playing healer back then and what the tank was telling me to do was seemingly making things worse. I logged out like yourself and basically quit the game because I thought I sucked that much and people were gonna be mad. I wish I hadn't and I wish I'd stuck with it and asked for explanations.
And, you can always ask us about shit here too. We were all new once.

Yeah these were the ones I was thinking of having had to guide a lot of sprouties through those in Mentor Roulette. Pharos Hard I had to pull up the wiki in the background to explain the dogs on that one boss.

Hmmm...
Tam Tara Hard and Haukke Manor Hard were the two dungeons that always seem to give me trouble when I'm partied with sprouts but I've never had issues with any of the other ones.

Pro life tip: If you make a mistake at your customer-facing job, claim you are new and you will be forgiven. Works every time.

It's funny how forgiving and polite people become. A quick call to their humanity and suddenly they don't treat service workers as subhuman.

Am also female, agreed with it based on my own personal experiences. There's been some particularly horrific women in my family who caused me to realise from a very young age that women aren't always innocent as some will claim. Each sex does bad shit and it's stupid to try and claim otherwise. I don't see how that suddenly = incel just because some women are able to admit that their sex isn't faultless and can be flat out hypocritical at times. Just like men can. Maybe I'm missing something?

Grats! I did this for my main job a few years ago, vowed to never do it again. As time passed the pain lessened and I was stupid enough to start another one the other month after realising I had few weapon glams for that job. I haven't even finished the first book yet because as soon as I got to that stage, the will just departed. I'm sure I'll get round to it before EC.
Provide pics of feminine penis or you are faking.

Haukke Manor Hard is always at least one wipe in my experience. Having to explain to sprouts that it's the one boss in the game where you're punished for doing too much damage is a trial by fire.
Like I said earlier in the thread Y’shtola and Runar clearly having feelings for each other caused yurifags to have violent meltdowns and wish horrible shit on Ishikawa.
I always saw their relationship as more of a one-sided kind of childish crush from Runar, and Y'shtola being more flattered and bashful because she's used to hardass Matoya who shows love by complaining at her, and honest displays of affection throw her off. But maybe I'm just rationalising because I couldn't imagine the writers shacking up the waifu-bait mascot with a furry of all things.
I never really got romantic vibes from G'raha or Alisaie. Maybe it's worse if you play a female character?
I think G'raha works best when they lean into the fact that he's a 100-year old in a younger man's body. He's a kindly old man who wants to make the most of his second chance at life and probably doesn't even realise that his behaviour coming from a young person makes him look like a simp.

It's very easy for people to get an idea of a character in their head and then see everything they do through that lens, I'm sure we all do it at some point. Square doesn't help by promoting the Scions as sexy anime characters through merch and the like.

True. A lot of it is due to Japanese idol culture it seems. They want their characters to appear single so the fans won't feel slighted. They need their favorite to remain single so they can be with their fans only. I always thought it was a bit strange and sad that real people can't have relationships because it will damage their image not because they're insanely busy.

Yes Graha and Alisaie hit different playing as a woman but also it's how they translated it in English. They came off differently than what I read in the Japanese version. Your interpretation of the characters are solid but they don't come across that way to me as I've
played the game. I've also taken long breaks in between expacs so I'm sure I've forgotten some things. Maybe they need to get better translators going forward.

We got a better Hauchafaunt because of the English version; apparently he was a perv in the Japanese one. The rest of the time the English changes have been abysmal and it greatly affects how we understand the story. For example Uri's description in English when he made a Moenbryda doll in honor of her, it colored his character as a perv. They did him dirty.

As for Yshtola it made sense because she's half cat with a fantasy cat race boyfriend. The original designs for Miqote were more beast looking than cat girl/boy so I can see it working.

All this talk makes me want to finish DT but I'm in phase 2, I think. Past the big chunk of Tullioyah and now my character is hanging out with Erenville and Sphene. Maybe it'll get better but it's still a slog.

ETA: Yes to all of this. It was especially egregious when they kept pushing Ryne and Gaia together despite them being friends. Zero does not come off as a lesbian but it seems like all fans want their characters to be dolls they can play with in their sandbox. Fandom is a mistake.

The dungeon I always see the most trouble with when playing with first time sprouts is the Aetherialchemical Research Facility after the Ascian prime boss rework. Very common to see wipes and party disbands. The boss was a lot easier prior to the rework and I never recalled any wipes or people dying a lot. A lot of wipes on the updated boss mostly comes from the debuff vomit that you have to resolve one by one or people not paying attention to the orbs moving to see which area to not stand in.

i love how Square gave entire expansions worth of lines to Woke Lmao and the first thing they did was put Y'shtola in a bikini on a car for Anime Expo a year after DT's release

Yeah it was Tam Tara Hard
AHAHAHA!!
First boss, I bet.
For that one, you'll die if people just mindlessly push buttons to attack and kill everything. Which to be fair...I can't blame people since they've been trained to do exactly that the whole time. Boss will spawn adds but if you kill them, they'll explode and kill you all. The only way to get rid of them is that a random party member will get targeted by an aoe. They basically have to take the aoe to the adds and the boss herself will kill them. That's the only way to get rid of them without the ensuing explosion.

If it was the 2nd boss, you have to protect the lala at the center from the purple orbs that spawn and move toward him. You have to soak them but be mindful because soaking them deals damage and if you're healer isn't up to snuff, they won't top you off so you might have to eat a death to save the group from a wipe.

Last boss is pretty cut and dry. Kill all the adds that spawn, don't let them reach the center and the creepy girl won't nuke you guys into the aether with her aoe attack as it gains potency the more adds you allow to reach the center.

Beat the release MSQ of Heavensward and by extension the Alexander raids too! HW was very enjoyable, much more than ARR. A friend carried me through Savage Alexander so I could get the sweet, sweet drip, in exchange he got the mount from it.

I'm really enjoying tank to be honest, I'm having to think about shit aside from "do your rotation and sometimes dodge shit". Getting to content where I actually have to do tank swaps for once is nice too.

RIP Haurchefant my GOAT

Yup, easiest way to handle the first boss is just focus the boss, have everyone stand in a cuddle puddle and eat the spread marker while it kills the adds.

I played a Lalafell. The game treats you as a young man who has come of age, being trained how to use a spear for the first time, looking up to the 30 year old lancer guildmaster as a mentor and authority figure, looking up to the admiral as an authority figure, etc. So the MC must be quite young. Alisaie has a few scenes where she is mildly enamored with the main character (IIRC the night scene with the baby Kobold during the HW patches, maybe during Stormblood when everyone is dropping comatose, and then maybe ShB at the terminally ill people's camp in the desert). There was also the dating sim video that Square posted for April Fools during Stormblood.

I do not recall anything about Haucherfant.

The post victory Aymeric dinner scene came off as just being a quick meet up between comrades. My friends have called me over to eat at their house before. Have the people calling it "a date" not had that happen them?

In Shadowbringers at Urianger's house with the flashback of Thancred being distraught when talking to real Minfilia, I thought that he was romantically in love with her, and he was upset that she had been seemingly replaced by this other random person. Minfilia and Thancred in ARR both looked the same youthful 20-30ish. I didn't know that Thancred was apparently a pseudo father figure or something to her until reading forums much later.

Runar likes Y'shtola. It's hard to tell if Y'shtola would really consider going back to the First to marry him. Given how she has never spoken of him since, it seems like she doesn't really care.

G'raha Tia just comes across as an enthusiastic friend.

I don't see the Zero and Julius ship. IIRC Jullus just gave her some food, told her don't die (after she had helped his people), and then that was the total extent of their interactions. Jullus is also hard at work trying to lift up what remains of his impoverished people. He would more than likely attract another Garlean. Zero is an immortal vampiric being and is busy trying to maintain her enclave. Neither Zero nor Jullus can live long in the other world without complicated aid. Etc. Too many roadblocks for it to happen.

For a several hundred hour long story spanning multiple campaigns/story arcs and several years (no way all of these wars could have happened in just one year), the game is indeed conspicuously sexless in terms of how hardly anyone in the main story is moving forward with their lives, getting married and having children and retiring from risky adventuring, etc.
