Literally spent all day doing missions just for my frying pan. I got up to 5 upgrades, was handed a new pan and thought "oh nice, they reduced the amount of upgrades I need to move to the next step" only for me to look at my research log and find out that I was in fact not done upgrading this stupid frying pan.
Sigh.
You cannot escape the cycles of Samsara. You only begin a fresh run through with the crafting piece. Get yourself a crafting calculator for higher end ones and it will be less onerous but.. yeah. Holy hell its like looking out at the hike ahead only to see you've just began to trudge.

I don't get this at all. Their behavior is cancerous, but how on earth is it more efficient to just do them solo when you can join the train and hit the entire lot in one go? If it's more convenient, then sure. It absolutely is more convenient to just kill them when you see them. But they're gonna take hours to respawn anyway, whether you do it now or in ten minutes makes zero difference.

Sounds more like sour grapes over getting harassed for poaching to me.
For A ranks, the time it can take to join servers with long wait times between pulls waiting for people to gather when everyone migrates and assembles/waits for A ranks means I can scout them out and just kill them faster alone, since it can take 5+ minutes per hop if they go to populated servers, which if you know the spawns you can just scout them out yourself. And better yet, especialy for S ranks _you_ control the spawn timers since outside of maint resets they have hours long windows before they show up or are available again. It's not 'Poaching', at all they are overworld mobs and if I find them I can do what I want with them, and I will not budge on that because some large group decides to show up. It isn't like I join the train servers and go ahead to what they have scouted out, I scout myself and was entirely unaffiliated and have no knowledge of their upcoming plans.

it really is more effecient to do it yourself, while occassionaly joining trains if they are around, since you bend it to your schedule which is the most vital part of when i say "effecient", since it's personal effeciency. Obviously the "Optimal" method would be to awake nearly 24/7 or account sharing following trains, but that ain't it for anyone with a job/life. I stopped at like 800-ish S ranks because I got bored though This was back when I had the time/energy to put into the game "seriously" and it was my main game to play.

I'm not personally bothered by people getting salty about it, I find it funny/pathetic, but I know there have been many instances of people with much thinner skin being chased off the game for minor infractions they didn't even know about.

I tried my hand again at Cosmic Exploration.
For a while I just was not motivated for the grind. It's tedious, takes a while to actually get to a good pace and the tools wouldn't be able to beat out a fully overmelded, HQ crafted tool. I'm also not a fan of the futuristic asthetic.

Get whatever that auto macro crafting generator is called and chill out to some Netflix turning in the craft and picking a new quest every time you hear the ping. It's so zen once you accept XIV crafting is fucking nonsense and turn it into an idle skiller.

So are leves even worth it anymore? I assumed the combat ones definitely not since they stopped mattering after HW but what about DOH/DOL? Asking as a newbie im those areas
Having not checked them since EW, I only ever used them for gil. There was a notorious ShB leve for a CUL item that was easy to make, and handing in HQ doubles the gil reward. There was an EW CUL craft that was much the same.

What are high value things to resell for gil? I'm trying to play the market but not autistic enough to go through so many items. I tried a few mounts and did make a good chunk of change but they took quite some time to move. I've got about 16 million to work with

They're useful if you want to level up your crafters/gatherers quickly. And can be an okay chunk of change if you need a steady (but not spectacular) flow of gil.

I make steady money as a gatherer, I gather what cannot be bought from NPCs, particularly the ingredients for raid food; timed nodes sell incredibly well too.

I use universalis to price things and to see what is currently selling on my server and other servers.

they're very good exp on-level, so they're really good for turboing through to the expansion's level cap. And as people said, they're also a staple money maker for very little effort, there's always a triple-turn in crafting leve that gives a good chunk of gil. This expansion, it's Mesquite Juice if I'm not mistaken. Since they stack up to 999 you can spend an hour or two bulk crafting them and then have weeks of leves ready to hand in for no effort.

Also ⏰ because I straight up forgot to hit "post reply"

Just to throw in as well, there's not a whole lot of difference in leve rewards between the old EW option (Tsai tou Vounou - Lv 89 CUL recipe) and Mesquite Juice. The benefit to Tsai is also that it doesn't need ingredients that you have to buy with gemstones/off the market board. You can obviously kill mobs for Nopalitender Tuna for Mesquite Juice although the droprate is ass, or send out retainers on ventures, just Tsai is less fuss for about the same returns. You get roughly 1mil per 100 leve allowance with both but in the long run we found Tsai was easier to keep crafted and stocked than Mesquite from the experience of myself and my FC.
Leves in general got nerfed at the start of EW because of how many people abused the fuck out of Coffee Biscuits in ShB so there's no 3x bonus turn in anymore. They're all just take leve, turn in leve now.

Does the "fill quality" button still exist? The one that works on crafts >10 levels below yours? Taking into account how much easier to get HQ it would be on the EW crafts the difference in gil probably would be worth the lower effort.

Ah, good to know. I never bothered much with it myself because gil has never been a concern, so I was mostly familiar with Coffee Biscuits and knew it got nerfed in EW.

Trained Eye still exists and works on everything up to level 90 except Expert Crafts, yup. You can make a 3 action macro for Trained Eye > Groundwork > Groundwork and craft basically anything from the past expansions.

damn it always sucks losing my qol mods when a new patch hits
just simple shit where it automatically selects the next item in the loot so you can spam pass at low level dungeons instead of having to click each one or bing able to see how much something costs without going to the market board
Crazy how much you need to add to make this game more playble

When I started playing I missed out on being able to benefit from Coffee Biscuits but Tsai helped me buy 2 large houses along with doing other stuff. After I set up a couple of FCs with OJs I've not touched leves since, but it's nice to be able to let people know they can basically print 1mil every week for free if they need it. Goes towards the Honest Gillionaire title too!

Yeah there's a couple of mods I use for more accessibility related reasons like one that lets me change my cursor around so it's easier to see (Where's My Mouse?), Player Tags (I think?) for putting a big party number and job over someone's head in duties, and TidyChat so I don't have 20 lines of messages about how I've put things on a retainer etc. I always forget how awful the game is for notification spam, even when you've toggled things off, until mods go down.

I know this is 100% self inflicted, but have you ever accidentally swapped to the Battle tab during an S rank? :story:
