I tried my hand again at Cosmic Exploration.
For a while I just was not motivated for the grind. It's tedious, takes a while to actually get to a good pace and the tools wouldn't be able to beat out a fully overmelded, HQ crafted tool. I'm also not a fan of the futuristic asthetic.
Literally spent all day doing missions just for my frying pan. I got up to 5 upgrades, was handed a new pan and thought "oh nice, they reduced the amount of upgrades I need to move to the next step" only for me to look at my research log and find out that I was in fact not done upgrading this stupid frying pan.
Sigh.

I got bored after the first area. CE feels like a waste, The only ones are doing the cosmic exploration are the gatherers while the crafters are sitting at base pushing macros. Big amazing looking areas that are empty. This and OC should have been one thing.

Gods that would be great if they would touch up some old systems. Doubly so if they would do something with Squadrons. I remember being disappointed hearing about Trusts being added to old content but still not doing anything with the Squadrons. Guess it'll go on the heap with other barely there stuff like Lord of Verminion, Mahjong, and Rival Wings.
I think the best thing they can do with the Free Company squadrons is being able to use them a bit like FF11 Trusts in a limited capacity to bring them out to do Fate grinds for older areas, since nobody does them anymore and it's pretty slow/boring doing them alone. I'd even go so far as to say bringing the fate gemstones to older areas would make them a lot more lively and interactive especially fo rnewer or f2p players. I'd probably go even further and say the Squadron base should be expanded to have a lot of the utilities an FC house should have like the airship/sub workshops and chocobo stables and treated like an individual private player home/apartment attached with the squadron send-outs awarding goods to upgrade them or to gather materials or currency to trade in for such items instead of just XP manuals, which wile great for a starting player are worthless to established players.

(that and actually give us another rank in the GC, I am a minority but i think a lot of the GC weapons/cosmetics are dope and they should add more)

While i am yapping, I made a new character recently out of boredom and to play in another datacenter with a friend who is just starting and I think adding flying was probably one of the biggest mistakes this game has ever made. Terrible combat at low levels aside I am having....fun? Being able to appreciate the surroundings as I traverse on the ground and it really hits me how fucked flying pushed all the area designs to be large empty spaces of nothing.

The GCs got a few moments to shine in Endwalker, which I hoped would also come with an update to them. Since we united so many factions together in a gigantic Alliance, I was hoping we could also get to see how each company improves through cooperation with the new alliance members. Like I dunno, why can't the Maelstrom cooperate with Ishgard and get a cannoneer or musketeer outfit. I mean the Musketeer guild is still located in Limsa and Merlwyb is canonically a Musketeer as her combat job.

The Immortal Flames could cooperate with Ala Mhigo, or Ala Mhigo could aid The Twin Adders since they are the closest to them. I don't need another soldier/officer/captain outfit or anything, but it sure would be neat if each GC could get some "special unit" or something that makes them stick out a bit more, and of course offer a glam set to go with it, similarly to the Elite sets that are already in the game.

And in a perfect world, they would have added Ishgard, Ala Mhigo and Doma (and possibly Thavnair and Old Sharlayan) as possible GCs too, with their own sets. Apparently back in FFXIV 1.0 very early in the development stage, the goal was to actually have Limsa Lominsa, Gridania, Ul'dah, Ala Mhigo, Ishgard and Old Sharlayan as starting cities, probably with their own GCs too.

I get it, most players wanna look cool and shit, but god dangit, sometimes you just wanna pretend to be a regular soldier or officer instead of the fabled warrior of legend.

A lot more of a niche complaint, but the rework of ARR to add flying also ruined a lot of fun out of bounds areas that I liked to explore and show new players and friends. Exploring Mor Dhona used to be a lot of fun because there were so many places you could go if you knew some pixel perfect jumps, and they rarely ever got patched because it was out of date content and not in a town so Square didn't care

I use Cosmic Exploration as my personal getaway with fishing. You get free bait and outside a couple of the higher rank ones, missions are pretty easy and straightforward. Easy credits for stuff I'd like to get or resale on the market board.

You can say the same about DC travel tbh. A lot of the small servers' cozy hunt groups died overnight after DC travel was implemented, and what we have now is a giant hunt train that lags the fucking instance everytime I had the misfortune to pass by one.

The mass hunt trains are absolutely cancer. The amount of drama they get invovled in if someone dares disrupt them for even a second is insane, like it's one of the most minor and pettiest reasons I've seen people get doxxed/harrassed from this game. There was a time where I was going for the 1k+ S and A rank kills so it was more personally effecient to just bash them out solo or with a few friends and the moment a DC train scout saw that I had people bitching at me for over a month over them having to skip like 3 A ranks from previous xpacs, despite them going from server to server like a plague of locusts clearing them out. A month of bitching over a five minute disruption.

I don't get this at all. Their behavior is cancerous, but how on earth is it more efficient to just do them solo when you can join the train and hit the entire lot in one go? If it's more convenient, then sure. It absolutely is more convenient to just kill them when you see them. But they're gonna take hours to respawn anyway, whether you do it now or in ten minutes makes zero difference.

Sounds more like sour grapes over getting harassed for poaching to me.

I dunno about other hunt communities, but I do know Faloop's stance pretty well. They don't (or shouldn't) care about A ranks from SB and earlier. You'll get the odd freak who will still ree about them, but most Faloop people just want their nuts and tomes, or the titles from the ShB onwards hunts. Faloop staff on Chaos at least will say that technically all hunts are free for all and while missing a couple from a train is annoying, it's no big deal given they respawn every 4-5 hours anyway. ARR and HW are slightly shorter on that which is another reason why they're better to pick off as most people will ignore them. Trains aren't really viable for those anyway because they melt as soon as you look at them.

S ranks... I do understand people getting pissy about those. They have 70+ hour respawn windows, annoying as shit spawn conditions which are only a % chance for it to spawn in a window, and there's a lot of time and effort so it makes sense for people to share those. If you want to free range hunt, go to OCE. The Aussies don't really care that much and there's not many of them anyway. Ain't like you need good ping to kill hunt marks and it's fun to low man them.

I dont think it is fair play to treat a community courtesy as a hard rule.

When I was new to the game with friends, we saw an S rank for the first time and didn't really have a firm grasp on how hunts work or what it was. So we thought hey let's go fight that. We got shat on for literally months anytime we logged into a major city on our world after that.

Expecting every player to just automatically know that the community has "decided" these things is stupid. If it's not an actual game rule you cannot expect people to abide by it outside of members in whatever hunt discord you may or may not be in.

That said, now that I *do* know how marks work I obviously am quite happy to go along with it. My issue is the assumption behind it- This game has a lot of people who aren't reasonably going to know stuff like this and so treating it like a major transgression just isn't fair.

I feel like people are missing the exact point I was focusing on.

This is the part that baffles me the most. Convenience is not the same as efficiency unless you literally will not be online when the next train comes through, which is generally not going to be long away due to them running on spawn most of the time.

I'm not excusing the people acting like cancerous little faggots about it. That doesn't change the fact that the post just comes across as salty and making excuses just because people harassed them over it.

I'd give my left nut to be able to join the Temple Knights in Ishgard. Then again Ishgard is still my home point for teleporting since I just love the city so much. Only thing that would have trumped it would have been a fully developed Garlemald to chill in but we can't have nice things.

Reminder that we never got the full Ala Mhigo, or even a full Doma thing either. (Does the Doma reconstruction thing really count? Hmmm. Maybe. It feels really small though.)

I know it's not gonna happen but I'm still gonna mald when it's revealed the 8.0 Ranged DPS job isn't a Musketeer. The clues are all there

I got some nice stuff out of it for sure but it's hard for me to stay focused long enough to complete such a tedious fucking grind. While it's nice to just zone out and craft while listening to music or watching a youtube video, dedicating a whole day to just that is....eh. I work 2 jobs so my free time is a luxury these days and I dunno if I want to spend it doing this.

I will say that it's always fucking hilarious when a person in those trains is an instant puller. The amount of chimping out and slapfighting I see in the chat window when that happens is always a nice chuckle. You've got a hoard of people all screaming and being mad at like that one dude with his finger in his nose going "lol stay mad"

I'm still so fucking mad that we haven't had a crafting hub to rebuild Garlemald yet. I'm tired of looking at that eyesore of a ruined city.
spent a whole day getting a carfter job to 100 just so I can get orange scripts to get a chest piece since it looks cool on my SAM
It was fucking worth it I look so cool
Hell yeah, brother. You already know the real endgame in this MMO. It's to look fashionable as fuck.
