I remember when Grummz tried playing XIV back during the WoW exodus, he got to Prae (before the rework in 6.1) and had a massive melty on twitter about the fact that everyone just ran ahead and steamrolled the content.

Anyway, FFXIV is, on some level, an irrevocably woke game. FF in general has always been rooted thematically in a kind of Japanese progressive idealism (which is why the language for XI's theme was in fucking esperanto of all things) and it's one of the major ways it distinguishes itself in its home country (vs Dragon Quest especially). Not to say that it's on the same level of woke as twitter trannies and DEI commissars, but no one is mad that XIV suddenly 'went woke.' They're mad that it's boring and annoying to sit through, especially for the first 10 hours.
 
Did they get fucking Kojima to produce this expansion? Actually, no. Kojima would realise that The Death of Superman would be a terrible source to steal from.

Strayborough Deadwalk bosses are really fun. I'll be sad when everybody is overgeared and steamrolling it even with item sync.
 
Just finished the third dungeon, and that last boss, holy shit; if the healer wasn't already familiar with it, I don't think we would've managed to clear it in 3 attempts. That dude's a mini raid boss in his own right. Like I wasn't aware about all my cooldowns and mitigations like that in a basic dungeon in a long time.
 
Dungeons have been very fun imo, good redeeming quality. I seriously hope the raids and trial series are good too. It’s just a shame that the dungeons are sandwiched between 90 hours of the Wuk Lamat visual novel every time. When I ran the 95 dungeon today to catch up in XP we wiped like 3 times because of the healer dying early on, it came down to just me (SAM) and the tank every one of those times.

Also, doing roulettes with a warrior and 3 pictos has been very funny.

I haven't got into DT yet because I've been busy with IRL stuff and leveling PCT to 90, but when I heard about that story, it sounded like a fantasy interpretation of the pilgrims and indians story. So obvious bullshit but people tell it anyways and act like it's real or something lol.
 
I'll admit, I didn't find the voice acting as bad as others here claim. It's not great, but honestly, maybe my standards have fallen because the american VA industry for JP games/anime is kinda crap with all that nepotism (seriously, like a dozen people get all the fucking work lol).

I don't mind doing a bit of reading, but holy fuck they went a bit hard on it here. The last area in particular is pretty egregious considering it's literally stressed how time is of great importance.

Some elements of the second half also conflict with the first half too. Like, before the expansion even came out there was a dialogue section where the scions question whether it's appropriate to intervene in the affairs of a foreign country and needs Wuk Lamat to go "it's fine, encouraged actually" and spends most of the first half of the game learning about Tulal cultures. But the second half happens and Wuk Lamat basically injects herself firmly into Everkeep, and even before shit hits the fan she basically looks at their entire thing and goes "nah, this isn't right".

The localisation has mistakes too. Like one speech where Wuk Lamat says they met with the Yok Huy in Kozama'uka when they were actually met in Urqopacha.

Still. At least the fights are good. I'm very excited to run these two new extremes.

God I hate this guy. Dawntrail isn’t even “woke”, the writing is just shit. What an English localization studio does doesn’t reflect on the actual developers of the game. That’s like saying a German dub VA in an American made game is a Troon, so that makes the game woke. That makes no sense.

Im sorry but wasnt Grummz in charge of Firefall a failed MMO where he spent 3 million dollars on a literal battle bus, potential esport dreams, and then had the game killed in its cradle even though it had a semi large following?

It's pretty firmly in line with the political leanings of Shakespeare, of all things.

The common people are stupid and will readily turn their backs on their culture and their friends for safety or money, so that leads to democracy being very unstable and you need a firm hand to guide all these retards.

This place is funny because like all smug Reddits, theres always a tinge of seethe to their complaints while they try to make themselves look like they are above the more autistic sides of the FFXIV community, which isnt hard but a lot of posters end up being more spergy than the people they make fun of

Yes, he is currently developing Emb8r and constantly posts about how his game will be full of coom, iirc it has been indev since around 2017

Just finished the last MSQ dungeon and woo boy this is going to frustrate the turbo-casual playerbase. I wonder if there's already forum posts about it "being too hard pls nerf SE"
