Final Fantasy XIV - Kiwi Free Company

Had a fun first day

In case anyone doesn't know, the outfits are part of the omega questline. that doesn't mean feud-raytha wasn't part of the inspiration, but it's mostly Amano's artstyle.

Transfers were only working periodically yesterday, with the general assumption they were taking registrars in waves and re-opening them once the wave was handled. With that said, me and most of my friends are now in Bismarck or Ravana.

The names are wild and fantastic.

Others I've seen are Waltzing Matilda, Enhanced Unmend, and sooooo many more.

Ravana seeming like the most chill/less autistic server from my observations so far.

Screen shots of shout chat from Sephirot and Zurvan have been pretty embarrassing.

Ravana is where the bulk of players went, to the point that creating new characters was temporarily unavailable yesterday. Bismarck is the primary runoff server, from my understanding.

Sophia is the RP server and that all I need to say about that.

But keep in mind these servers have been open for less than two days. What have you seen from the shout chat?

Just the usual "I want to be the funniest guy in the chat." spouting overused memes and being embarrassingly horny on main. More NA DC vibes, I may just be more aware to it because I am so used to the beautiful silence of Tonberry.

I'm gonna maintain that this is the earliest of days, and it'll take a while to settle. People from across 7 datacenters are all collating into one, everyone's new and trying to assert themselves. I imagine that in a week, these servers will settle (though that doesn't mean they'll change for the better).

Aye. I got my alt into Bismarck after Ravana was closed yesterday. Preliminary lag testing seems good. Might need to wait for my VPN to support Australia now for that ultimate smooth experience though.

i mean, mine's a creamy 6ms.
Aye, for Australians I hear the experience is fantastic. But I'm from SEA, and while better than NA, the routing to OZland is notoriously known for dropping packets at a horrendous rate. (TF2 literally unplayable back then.)

I'm getting pretty meh ping for Bismarck as a flyoverfag, but I'm just there to casually replay MSQ and hang out so it's not so bad.

I honestly don’t find the tropes and anime stuff in this game bad at all. It’s a jrpg of course it’s going to have jrpg and anime tropes. I see way too many people go into the game and get surprise Pikachu faces when they run into genre tropes and cliches.
FFXI sperging below.
In other news I decided to take a break from XIV and fired up my old XI account. Having a blast so far. That said I’m through all the story missions and imo XIV blows XI out of the water in terms of plot and writing quality. It’s not bad but it’s not as good as the XI fans who love to shit all over XIV hype it up to be. Also starting from Wings of the Goddess cutscenes began to get more frequent and longer at the cost of gameplay. The worst part is that the characters are horribly boring, even Y’shtola is more interesting than most of XI’s cast.

However one thing I do enjoy about XI’s plot is the nonlinearity and the exploration factor of the world compared to XIV. There’s a lot more freedom with tackling stand alone expansion pack plots.

I heard Bismark is where all the New Zealanders went.

Sophia is the casual/rp server.

Ravana is the raiding server.

Sephirot and Zurvan servers are just kind of...there. Possibly as just a melting pot.

Still quite enjoying Ravana.

Ultra pissed retards fucked the MB instantly though when they had the chance to reset things with a fresh market.

Can someone explain to me what exactly the purpose of Squadrons are? Preferably in a way a retard like me can understand it. I'm under the impression that the only rewards are buff items which I really don't give a shit about at this point of the game when I'm already over-leveled and over-geared.

Also, is leveling up your Squadron the only way to advance your GC rank above Second Lieutenant or does the cap get raised at a certain point in the story? The asshole behind the counter tells me I can't get promoted any further.

Squadrons are basically a gimmick precursor to the trust system. Their ultimate function is they are more or less the fastest way to reach level 50 without much issue because their AI is dumb as bricks, so they are overpowered stat wise and they let you instantly queue into a good chunk of dungeons. You can clear Stone Vigil for example in about 20 or so minutes. The buffs have marginal purpose for crafters and gatherers from what I remember.

Yes they are the only way to advance your GC rank after a certain point. They're pretty gimmicky overall and their shelf life dies after Heavensward content for practical purposes, so unless you think dressing your goons up in funny outfits is worthwhile (Maid outfits, suits, actually reasonable armor, swimsuits? So many options!), you want to more easily level (mostly dps) jobs from level 15-60ish, or you want the Captain rank it isn't worth caring about the Squadrons as a system.
