Back in mai day we couldn't fly at all in ARR.

So tl;dr of how flying works from now on. You got these wind orb things called aether currents that you can find on the zone (you get a compass to help you find them after a few hours) and you get side quests and one main story quest that gives aether currents.

Collect all of them and you can fly, that is all you need to do. This process of collecting them takes about an hour per zone once you get the MSQ one, which happens usually at the last quest for the zone that you need for X.0 section of the plot, you will return to all these zones many times later so flying is still useful you're just forced to properly trek across the zone at first.

Rent, money, and food. What the fuck are you buying and renting that it costs you $10,000 a month unless you're going to school as well? I'm sorry if it costs you that much you're making bad life decisions.

I'm a little confused here.

It seems strange to demonetize a channel for promoting other people's content if they have permission.

Is this something that's meant to be dealing with channels like the one in question, and other "React" channels? I haven't been keeping up with what's haram and what isn't on YouTube these days, so I'm curious.

Time to hunt for aether currents, fucko.

Best get used to this because you're going to have to do this for every expansion from now on.

Also, if you can't figure out to deal with the compass' jank directional hints, just look up a map online. It's way less of a headache and, in some areas cases, it'll give you an idea for what you can get right away and what'll be staying out of your reach until you progress a bit further in the MSQ.

To be fair, aether currents are a joke now in everything except EW. There's only four in the overworld and they're all the ones placed right next to MSQ objectives. The only way unlocking flying could be easier is if they just gave it to you with the MSQ.

This channel likely doesn't have permission to begin with to share these clips, like a lot of these clip highlight channels typically don't they just do it and rake in views.

Now a lot of the original people in the clips probably don't care, some might even appreciate it as promotion, but some might throw a hissy fit and scream "muh content" and throw a fit to YT. Which due to YT's stupid rules if you get enough hissy fit tokens, your monetization dies and eventually your channel can get auto removed without question. That's what I get out of this situation and assume why this happened. YT continues to not make sense, because it is YT, which is one of many reasons "Content Creator" is a really sketchy "profession" to do long term.

Youtube will never truly kill "Reaction" content unless they get a lawsuit/DMCA/whatever over it, because let's be real it provides too much money and views to remove unless you get a complaint over it.

Yeah, that was sort of the vibe I was getting with the "REE WE HAD PERMISSION REE" emphasis they were putting in their posts.

But I know that Asmongold lets people use his shit so I wasn't sure if this was someone else doing the same.

This is where it gets a little weird for me when it comes to legal monetization. On one hand you're right, who gives a shit? Free promotion is never bad promotion whether monetized or not. On the other hand, it's not their work so it gets into strange territory of fair use. From what I can tell, Fashionista was making a pretty significant sum of views on their videos, but there in lies a problem with me; a lot of the streamers they host that DIDN'T consent (even consensual it gets weird for me) to their use are left in a very odd situation where someone is making significant money off of their unmolested clips meanwhile they're getting nothing but "free promotion" in return. Lets say fashionista made over maybe 10-20k dollars off of some 100-200 viewer average streamer and the "free promotion" they got from Fashionista's clip compilation basically nets them nothing but maybe a few eyes or two and then bare bones income at best... let's also say that same streamer did not consent. That might (emphasis on might) be grounds for potential lawsuits or DMCA notifications. I would also probably empathize more with the streamer because they didn't get anything out of it and Fashionista basically parisitically stole their content for money and ad revenue. I don't know, what do you think of this mentality? Am I in the wrong?

EDIT: This is also why people hated classic youtubers like Raywilliamjohnson because his whole schtick was stealing viral videos then reuploading them to his channel and using them for profit.

Highlight channels like these are quite parasitic and typically only really exist to help people go through highlight reels without actually visiting the stream. Their are exceptions where sometimes the original creator and the channel work out a deal, like with Asmongold's channel, but those are quite rare. I personally doubt the vast majority of people who watch say...that one guy Fashionista had often who quite literally voice acted the cutscenes (even ones with voices already) himself and he acted out the ShB scene before the 1st lvl 80 dungeon kicks in.

They might enjoy his personality, they might think he's fantastic, but most can just get his big moments through this channel and not through his own stream. Which is kind of backwards of "free promotion". So on a I suppose "moral" level (assuming no permission exists like with Asmon), I don't like channels like this (though I admit I am fully guilty of watching them from time to time) and believe removing them is perfectly fine.

Legally, fuck if I know as I am aware enough to know that my legal understanding is sketchy at best. "Transformative work" with my laymen understanding gets really weird with cutscene heavy games like FFXIV imo, because really...you're effectively reacting to a movie a lot of the time. It isn't like most streamers are providing in-depth commentary or discussion like say Ethys Asher did when he streamed MSQ content and actively discussed lore implications or even Pyrocynical probably does something similar with big lore moment. Hell even Rich Campells' stall autistic fits are on some level commentary even if it is obnoxious to most sane people.

But most of these reactions? It is the cutscenes with some "WHAT?!?!?!"s thrown into the mix, or tears, or "this is the best story ever made..."s. So once you bring in a highlight reel channel who takes that, what do you have? Questionable transformative work on what is effectively theft? That is a legal minefield I don't want to figure out in favor of highlight channels.

tl;dr: Morally I don't like these channels, legally this sounds like a fucking mess no one wants to deal with especially due to this being primarily MSQ story reactions which I think transformative wise gets weird to begin with.

I can see their benefit and purpose during the time when it was a brand new mechanic, but it's fucking brutal for people like me who are years late to the party. It's not only the lack of flying, but the glacial mount speed too. I get that flying trivializes a lot of the exploration, but fuck me it's massively killing my enjoyment. The geography of the new zones I'm in makes the problem about 100 times worse. Most of the old content and mechanics make it seem like they want to put new players on a conveyor belt to get them up to speed as quickly and painlessly as possible, so I have no idea why they didn't decide to axe this.

Flying basically makes you miss seeing much of anything really, the cold desolate bridge doesn't really mean much when you literally just fly past it in the snowstorm, or the cliffs don't matter when you fly over it, or seeing the majesty of the frozen dragon looming in the northwestern end of Western Coerthas doesn't hit you when you just fly into it as much as when you walk towards it by happenstance. It also helps the developers control where the player can go in the plot. The quests also are a nice sort of "summary" of the zone's lore and identity of people who live here, the western coerthas one that gives you the level 51 dungeon is a really nice tone setter for this zone and just how fucked it is.

Sea of Clouds' plot is effectively split in half so the no flying keeps you on track (this happens at least once per expansions where one zone has two halves for lower levels and higher levels), and the last zone in HW in particular has a specific spoiler that you are supposed to be taken aback by when you first run into it just before going to the first level 60 dungeon. So if you flying into it immediately, but can't interact, then you lose a lot of that initial "woah..." factor.

ShB's last zone also has a very massive spoiler if you fly into it by accident, I know this because I wanted to see what would happen if I flew a brand new person over to somewhere on the map. They supposedly couldn't see this section of the map like I could so I thought the game would just block me off...then I flew close to the ground and they asked me "uh...what is this?" and I immediately turned back around as fast as possible before I spoiled them further.

Tbh this is why I wanted them to lock ARR flying behind further MSQ progression.

It takes no time at all if you just pick them up while you quest, or like 15 minutes per zone for non-quest aether currents if you have a friend with flying help you get them. It couldn't be easier unless they literally just gave you flying without any effort at all.

To add on to this, the requirements are less onerous than they seem at first, because they become a factor in other fun parts and requirements:

1: They show the way to optional levelling dungeons, if there is one in the zone.
2: Future beast tribes (and other similar sidequests, such as Custom Deliveries) require completing 1-2 sidequest chains in the zone. These sidequest chains will start with Aether Currents quests.
3: They're often the start of the more significant/funny quest chains in the zone. There's one where you bomb an incel catboy, and another where you go on a noble quest to help a madman because a little worm thing told him to.

there are also riding maps that improve your speed in zones, but I honestly forget where to buy them and what to buy them with. there might be multiple different ways to do so, though flight speed is in itself faster. TBH with how little money you can make from gathering thanks to bots, you really don't need to return to the zones that often unless you're doing hunts or grinding fates for whatever reason
What the fuck are you buying and renting that it costs you $10,000 a month
fantasia isn't going to buy itself , nor are level skips for alts

speaking of level skips, if you boost a black lives matter and proceed to do less damage than the healer, you are not worth the mp to pick up off the floor

Well that one otherkin Reaper and fuckboi Paladin in Dun Scaith? They got me suspended after days after the fact and no moderator even bothered to contact me even during that day, That otherkin Reaper was jumping ahead of the party without waiting where it was just her and three other people with the rest of group not even close, Which you think with Alliance C being all new, all wiped out on the first boss expect me, would slow down a bit and give them room to adjust but all that "we want to help out all the new players" is just bullshit window dressing on a FC status message. Which by around the second time I've said "Okay, next time let the Reap die" which got into this screaming match with him/her/whatever and got this white knight PLD defending her and threw some snide comment saying in the context of "I'm not that attractive" or some stupid shit. I wished I had screen-capped the whole thing, but I gave my own reply to that and it was "I don't fuck Paladins".

I figured it was another day of just people running into randoms, calling each other faggots, throw them in the blacklist, and just move on. Then I had to be reminded of otherkins having thin skin by this;

Your biggest mistake was thinking we still live in the 2.x/3.x days where one could still freely banter with retards in Party/Alliance chats and walk away scot free.

Your second biggest mistake was underestimating just how easily provoked trannies and "otherkin" can be, and how you will never, ever have anyone on your side if a fight breaks out among a large group of people.

Reflect carefully on your actions during your suspension and realize that XIV absolutely discourages communication at this point unless you just kiss ass and pretend XIV is a font of positivity like everyone else does.

But I have to be a crazy son of a bitch with zero fucks given. Plus had to remember that the community's loaded with rats and snitches, so had to retract telling my FCmates.

But still ain't drinking that font of positivity that still tastes like grape Kool-Aid, although it wasn't the first time I got suspended by an extremely thin skinned faggot which was by spamming the /throw emote at this one guy. Reason for said throwing started back in this Haukke Manor when the guy was being a massive piece of shit, even the other DPS thought the guy was being a massive douchebag. This was back in 2013 in my PS3 days.
