Final Fantasy XIV - Kiwi Free Company

Finally got in and was able to play for a bit over an hour. Haven't seen combat at all yet. Once I actually got in things were surprisingly stable. Liking it so far, if ShB's big upgrade to cutscenes was better facial expressions, then in EW it seems to be the camera movement. The second cutscene is fairly long, so be forewarned. Maybe not the longest thing ever, but enough to notice. Characters seem to be doing well in the intro (again, I only just completed the first quest in Old Sharlayan, so I can't really say for certain yet) and I'm glad that G'raha isn't just muh catboy husbando like he was in 5.4 a lot of the time. I'm love that the narration by Emet goes between very thoughtful and melancholy on the initial boat ride then when you get to Old Sharlayan he seems on the verge of laughing at Sharlayan's fear of war or even the tiniest bit of conflict.

Woke up, got in, login queue was only maybe 2 minutes. I must say I'm incredibly impressed that the servers aren't blowing up and I barely had to fight at all to login. Not even Shadowbringers was this nice, but it is still fairly early.

Black Mage mains are fucking EATING. No more retard button to use half my abilities, an extra Triplecast, and probably more right off the bat.

Also I thought this was Sin from FFX just to find out its a part of a mountain :/

Queue of 4000ish people when i tried to log in a couple of hours ago. Got to around 1500 and got booted.

Fun times.

E: 7000 people when i tried again.

kept crashing so reinstalled the game onto the same drive as my OS and runs perfect now, combat animations feels like they come out faster and just feels smoother overall

I stayed up to 4am est to get a 4000 person queue, got DCed halfway through but managed to get on. Unlocked sage and reaper first, then took the boat, did some shit in sharlayan and ended up in elephant man land. Fell asleep shortly after that but currently trying to log back on now.

I want to fuck around and play with so many classes right now but I also want to progress through the story .

Spoilers but I can't belive that Urianger dies of Ligma in the first few hours.
I was getting DDS2 vibes from an earlier spoiler about the story, but holy shit... this is starting to turn into straight DDS2

i was able to get on around 2am and the game just feels so much smoother to me.

and of course i switched to male viera because i am a faggot
Then for your punishment; give 50 Hail Marys
-or-
Your choice of hara-kiri.

Progressed to first dungeon. My spoiler-free thoughts so far: game seems more responsive overall, EW story seems to suffer a little bit from Stormblood terribad pacing in the first part (especially the fucking escort quests), and holy fuck have there been some big reveals.

I'm close to the first dungeon. It is very slow but I also think it is frankly more interesting then Stormblood's shitty first hours, which makes it more bearable. Stormblood's early issues is almost nothing happens besides you getting punked by Zenos and that's within the first hour or so and the rest of the next 5 or so is faffing about in an ocean, in not Japan, and just starting to deal with some rice farmers. You don't get much to really chew on, it is just war and more war and not in a exciting action movie way.

I feel EW's early section spends at least adequate time to establish and elaborate on places we've been hearing about for a decade, which is why it is so long and I feel at least decently satisfied with what we've gotten up to this point. Stormblood's problem is it badly explains both sides and their cultures, because it just wants to talk about oppression and Garlemald bad. So you just don't give much of a shit unless fighting oppression is just your personal jam. I actually feel bad for Thavnair to some degree right now and I'm curious about Sharlayan.

5,000 person queue because I fucking fell asleep since I was drowsy from some medication. Might as well play another game while I wait.

I was looking on youtube for the music that plays in elephant land (Thavnir? I forgot the spelling) and got a HUGE spoiler lmao.

Stay away from youtube at all costs if you care about being spoiled.

10:55 P.M. at night, Leviathan alone, a 4,540 waiting queue. All for going back to getting my alt pass Stormblood.

The indian island wasn't too exciting, I figured out fairly early what was going on with the Satrap, but it's a good story hook that I've yet to get an answer for what Sharlayan is doing. Currently suspecting that they're preparing an ark for the coming apocalypse.

I wouldn't call most of this exciting tbh, but it is interesting and more importantly it makes these places distinct. Considering how botched Stormblood was with introducing us to 2 whole nations that they've been hyping up for years in one expansion, well I didn't exactly have high hopes for these places especially Thavnair. Thavnair kicks the shit out of their introduction to Doma by a lot. The fish questline I also thought was kind of funny.
