Ehhh it sucks to lose a parent but I'll always find vigil type in mmos stuff super cheesy because I'm mega jaded. I have a feeling this may kill his desire to stream even though its his only way to make money. Dude is set for life if he's frugal and doesn't make retarded decisions.

I understand that jadedness, I personally didn't try to take screenshots or anything to flash on social media because I don't want to be one of those "Look at what I did to show I care -heart- updotes to the left" type of redditors/twitter shitshows. I just had an open night and I felt like showing up. The social media aspect is cringe as fuck, but I remember early on a few people and me just talked about life while discussing the topic. It was a nice community moment to me.
I wouldn't be shocked if he quit, the man lives like a bum and has a few million in investments he'll get by, but he might be one of those who tries to find ways to aggressively ignore his problems through distractions and he might use streaming as an escape. Asmongold did used to work for the IRS supposedly, so it might be possible to just do that again if he wants to get out of the internet life.

From what I’ve heard in one of asmongolds videos I believe he said they worked it out. Also I don’t think that guy’a THAT big of a sociopath to be that way. Optimist in me says that because wow lost so many long time streamers this might be a time to wake up for them and really rethink how they do things. But I know kiwi farms will be less than that and I don’t really blame them.

damn, i dont really know much of the guy beyond his new FFXIV content and some older spergy vids of his but it must be shit for Asmon, wish him the best and hope he can weather the pain of losing a loved one
At the risk of sounding like a "wholesome woawo" retarded redditor, i thought Yoshida very much a great guy from alot of stories told of his devwork and stuff, and then this little moment where he just asks Asmon about his mother as the first thing in a long-ish interview just spoke volumes of how much the guy can care about parts of the community, even a new guy who doesnt even speak his japanese and shit
Despite a bunch of spergery and somewhat wierd design decisions, FFXIV sometimes has some amounts of welcoming empathy thats somewhat missing, sometimes, too bad its mostly spergery if you go to its hardcore aspects, but all hardcore sections are by default kinda retarded, so who knows, thats just my (autistic) 2 cents

It sucks for the guy, but if it were most normal people in this game, giant memorials wouldn't be held. It's great for the people who want to participate in this sort of thing, but I don't know the guy personally. I'm with Jinmen on this one, I'm jaded too.
One can only hope he has actual friends in spite of his fortune. It's rough to keep a cohesive social circle when you're famous online and rich. Substituting meaningful connections with streaming isn't healthy and he's talked about how streaming doesn't put him in a good place:

Asmongold is going to be fine lol. let's not forget that we're talking about a guy whose entire career is making this face:
he is not a net cultural add. he is a goblin who has been launched into the ranks of the noveau riche solely on the cringe of his insufferable personality. no matter how sad the rest his story is, it also includes "and then I made millions of dollars recording myself playing video games and making retarded faces for children." so sad, his mom died of cancer. sorry to PL here, but this year, one of my parents had a stroke, a family friend managed to fatally liquidate his liver in record time from a surprise violent plunge into alcoholism, and the last remaining member of our elder generation finally finished dying a years-long horrible torturous death to lung cancer. my job sucks, my girlfriend is a miserable deadbeat and I barely make rent every month. some of you are probably going "hey, me too" to some or most of the shit I just said. everyone's going through shit. nobody's throwing us virtual sit-in pity parties. Yoshida's not patting any of us on the shoulder and asking we're doing. go figure, we fucking get on with our lives without it. Assmon can fucking walk. he's worth three million dollars. if he doesn't do anything with his life and lets himself be miserable then he's a fucking cuck and deserves it.

When Soken had cancer, the community had this giant sob party. They sent him a whole slew of get well letters.
I'm sure people in the dev team (300 people!!) had some very serious health issues and there wasn't a huge standing ovation and crying on stage for them.
Doesn't mean I can't have well wishes for Asmongold or whoever. But I make no illusion; these people don't have to deal with normal people problems like paying rent or having to deal with bs for little pay.

The way I see it, unless money can really circumvent or solve a problem (like the difference between a millionare losing their house vs the average joe losing their house, one is an expense and the other is a tragedy) then I try to feel for people's plights as equally as I can. Losing loved ones sucks, cancer is fucking awful, people die when they are killed, and insert other obvious bad statement is bad here. I used to play "my problems are worse then yours, so fuck you." games with other people and it just felt like a really backwards way to look at things. You're bound to find people who have had it rougher than you, but that doesn't somehow invalidate what you went through so the sympathy shouldn't be invalidated either unless you do it for attention seeking or faggot karma farming.
I feel for Asmongold's loss, I feel bad that Soken had to go through cancer, and if anyone else here has had loss or a struggle I wish you the very best life can give you. I'm just a faggot like that.
Speaking of depressing shit (and to try and turn this back into a FF14 thread), I finally finished the Sorrow of Werlyt (ShB trial side story). I am both mortified and depressed now. I really wish that "Burn out the bad!!" cutscene was voice acted, that scene with actual voice work would have really elevated how fucked up that scene was. I know it has a bunch of Gundam references, but I've never seen Gundam so the references are lost on me.
I think this story alongside Bozja gave me an idea of what I think SE is doing with the Garlean Empire and why it feels like it is just devolving into cartoon-ishly evil empire #29 ever since Stormblood. I want to see how they cap it off with Endwalker, and if I'm correct then I'm not super happy with this direction but at least I understand it I think.

I've been of the thought that we'll see some degree of heel-face turn with the Garleans come Endwalker since the benchmark trailer opens with Garleans fighting Telophoroi (?) monsters and the WoL promptly coming to the Garleans' rescue/the Garleans backing up the WoL. Plus that midway scene showing the Garleans

I'm more thinking about the intention behind the tone shift I feel Garlemald has gotten since SB where in ARR-HW they seemed to be set up as an "Well intentioned extremists" sort of force especially with Gaius who made decent points about why the current structure is broken considering how sucky the city states of Eorzea are in ARR.
Ever since Stormblood, save for maybe Varis, we've just gotten full on jackass evil Garlean legatus one after another. Zenos, Gabranth, and Valens are all basically scumbags who want power or whatever, all the terrible experiments, all the "Garleans bad" plot points, and all the "Garleans the best, shut up savage" speeches are getting old. Meanwhile Gaius seemed like a decent ruler despite being a conquerer, he had his head up his ass by Praetorium and he gets his shit kicked in for it, but he wasn't simply "I'm an asshole with Darth Vader armor" like the above have been.
It just feels so off how we just haven't met anyone like Gaius or Varis again who are extremist "Ends justify the means" sort of antagonists who have a view on the problems in the world, and have chosen a violent way to fix them. We got "Muh hunt for muh friend" Zenos, or "I'm just going to make a new kingdom using primals, trust me this is a good idea" Gabranth, or "I'm just a ham sandwich with a side of colossal dickhead" Valens. In EW I really want at least some new important Garlean NPC in Garlemald that isn't just a colossal asshole for the sake of it.
